Durnerz Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 Mike Newell for me. But to be honest I dont care who we appoint, I won't care until I see any improvement on what Holloway has done here. The onus is on Mandaric now, or Aldridge, whoever is choosing the next victim to step onto the gallows, good luck whoever takes it, you're a braver man than I.
The Reverend Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 I'm not gona cry over this, i liked him, and wanted him to do well. Ultimately, he has failed. He deserves to go, though i'd of liked to have seen him given ten games to prove his worth. But its not to be, good luck Ollie, and on we go.....
bigneville Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 This news just made my weekend. About time he went, should have happened ages a go. The next decision Milan makes regarding manager could decide whether we spend one season or ten in League 1.
Thracian Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 Who would you appoint Thrac? Realistically.... Joe Royle is the person I'd choose. There are others I'd quite accept. Ince obviously but that has to be a long shot. Simon Grayson knows our club and has showed he can get out of our division and survive in the Championship on limited resources. Mike Newell and Dave Penney might be worthwhile gambles. But I doubt Mandaric is an easy man to please and get along with. He seems to like experience and someone with a history of having been there and done it. Joe Royle fits the bill. Like Newell he's an ex-forward who knows the value of scoring goals and playing the sort of football people want to watch. It's time we had an ex-attacker in charge. And one who has known genuine success. If we do go up he's had the experience of the higher levels we aspire to. And I believe he'd deal properly and effectively with the young players. Finally, having been out of the game a while he might have recharged his batteries and be keen on another challenge.
Rocky Dennis Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 For what reason and In what way would Walsh even merit consideration? As I've said countless times, if Walsh wants to manage Leicester he should get some low level experience in coaching/managing first. I think he'd be a very good No 2 to Grayson. I reckon he'd motivate the players too!
lildave3 Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 Baffling. 10 o'clock on a Friday night and this happens.
Matt Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 Well now I hope something I posted last sunday which I dismissed and questioned comes true...Enter Simon Grayson. TBH he's the only person that jumps out at me, I've read that apparently he was linked last year and he's have crawled over broken glass to come here (Not sure how true that is) and I am actually quite impressed with him (Not sure what type of football he plays but his record looks good). And he the big ex Leicester player that everyone seems to want in charge (I'm not really bothered by that point tbh). The only downfall of this is he is already in a job, and the fact their in a higher league is the main factor and question of can we tempt he out of the job, Why on earth would he a) Want to drop down a league? and b) Have his job in threat after every loss, even if we're winning the majority of games. I'm in the Simon Grayson corner.
Simi Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 Obviously Mandaric doesn't have a social life, sacking someone on a Friday night! I'm a little shocked at the timing, but it does link in with the article posted on the OS about expecting a busy bank holiday weekend of sales. I'm dissapointed it didn't work out, but I can't condone keeping a manager that has got us relegated. Let the rollercoaster commence once again.
jezzy b Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 Hi all, just registered to post this. In all my life never backward in coming forward but have mixed feelings, just really bored by another new manager......it really cannot be productive. Cannot make my mind up on this one, part of me thinks yes lets see what Holloway is really made of.....he know's the team and the division, is any more turmoil going to get a settled side? I know people who knew MA and heard a lot of things about him.....was never going to be the right man. Also know someone who knows Ollie, Ollie said that he was unhappy that MM never let him make the decisions especially on transfers. (But thats life in any job.......thats Milans prerogative, if any manger does not understand that they need to put in they're own money and truly be there own boss. Even the top managers will have that pressure, thats why they all get paid that much). But SSN have just given out Ollies win ratio 12%........OK thats made my mind up!!!!! Never a dull moment, least I don't support Derby!
Guest Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 Grayson or Thracian for manager (But it'll probably be Lambert let's face it)
Collymore Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 I think we need someone who knows the division, someone who is strict and who will look to bring in leaders on the pitch and start running the club more hierarchical rather than this 'free for all' crap we've had for the last few seasons. I don't think whoever it is necessarily needs to be a big name and should be given a 1 year contract. Neil McDonald (Currently a coach at Leeds) could be a rank outsider
The Reverend Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 Billy Davies please. Some would say thats unrealistic, but i think he could be tempted by a big challenge, a chance to become a hero, and Milans millions. I would suggest Newell but because of his 'bung' past, it will never happen. i dont think we'll get Ince. He's at a club that is seriously on the up, and i dont think he'd jeporadise that, by joining a club that has been on a downward spiral for a number of years. Theres no pressure for him at MK, im sure theiur fans would take mid table to play-offs, and he can develop as a manager at his own pace, whereas here, he's chucked straight into it, Mandaric's saying get us promoted tomorrow you bastard or your gone. Its just not productive. But what can ya do? I dont think Royle will come either. He never impressed me particularly at Ipswich anyway. He's rejected us once.
Joe. Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 Along the lines of what Collymore says, I think it's baffling when Mandaric hands new managers three year contracts when we've barely had one here six months in his reign yet. Give somebody a 1-2 year contract so they have to fight for a new one I say.
Simi Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 So, do we go for a manager experienced in this league? The Championship? Or someone with Premier League experience? Incredibily tough call for Mandaric now to be honest, his biggest appointment by far. Personally, I'd like young and hungry. Someone willing to bring in new ideas and a new ethic to the side. It was refreshing what we had with Allen, it felt like we were moving as a club. I want that feeling back.
thegingerfox Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 Hmm, to be honest this news neither saddens or delights me. The main thing I wanted after this big mess of a season (and the several before it), was stability which sacking your manager doesn't involve. However, Holloway spent and did the talking but his record doesn't lie so I'm not exactly gutted he's seen the door. I saw someone else said we were too low down for Billy Davies, apparently he applied for the Huddersfield job last year and got turned down! Also, Milan was a great admirer of his and I'd be delighted with that appointment. He'd possibly get what we should see from Oakley and Howard? I think Steve Walsh would be a rather hasty and foolish appointment despite his huge popularity at the club, perhaps as a no2 or on the coaching staff? This better be good Milan, and this time give him some fooking time!!
Fox You Forest Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 Personally, I'd like young and hungry. Someone willing to bring in new ideas and a new ethic to the side. It was refreshing what we had with Allen, it felt like we were moving as a club. I want that feeling back. I agree, and personally it would be Grayson for me with Taggart as number 2.
lildave3 Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 Gotta say, Newell tempts me for some reason. But I really don't know who I want.

Personally, I'd like someone with a good rack - someone who'd look good in a photo-shoot clasping their bazooms under a T-shirt made wet in a shower.
FilboFox Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 NOT NEWELL... please God Milan... don't make this club any worse than it already is!!!
Thracian Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 Let's all have a disco, let's all have a disco, da da, da-daah, let's all....
Joe. Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 NOT NEWELL... please God Milan... don't make this club any worse than it already is!!! Why? Did a very good job at Luton.
Daggers Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 Let's all have a disco, let's all have a disco, da da, da-daah, let's all.... Celebrating may be a tad early considering you don't know the replacement yet - and it could be far worse than what we've just got rid of.
Fox You Forest Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 Let's all have a disco, let's all have a disco, da da, da-daah, let's all.... If your paying for the beer.
