Holloway GONE!

Promising manager, no question. Not sure I'd appoint a guy who'd been convicted of assaulting his estranged wife though. I don't know the circumstances - my idea of common assault might be different from a court's - but assaulting women was always a definite "no" during my upbringing.

However, top scoring in the League with 84 goals and 10 defeats in 46 matches to earn promotion is no mean feat and might persuade me to forgive a few sins.

He could be a decent top-class manager in time - but right now, taking on a scandal-tainted manager is the last thing this club needs.

I heard a nasty rumour last night that Graeme Souness might be in the frame - as manager, owner or (heaven forbid) even both!

Spinal Tap is good, they make me laff, ian ollaway dunt.

We go through managers at the same rate they go through drummers. We haven't had one explode yet though...could well be the next appointment.

Who ever he appoints next is going to need a thick skin or a big ego, probably both because anything other than instant promotion will be seen as failure, there is going to be no consolidation season in this league and I guess that if we are not fast off the starting blocks the new manager will be gone by Chrimbo regardless of who it is!

Hands up . I couldn`t keep up with all the changes, sorry.

Would you take GM now?

Would he have kept us up?

Not really I read something the other day think it was posted by Joe - Fair enough Gary Megson has proved everyone wrong, He's gone to Bolton, kept them up, had then on succesful spell in Europe and on paper not done a bad job, but I never liked the bloke from day 1, I'd happily take not liking the manager and the club doing well though, Maybe Megson would have kept us up we'll never know but even if he did keep us up, I couldn't be doing with watching his style of football, I'd rather have been relegated than that tbh.

There's staying up in a league, and then there's playing good football, swings and roundabouts, catch 22.

Hoddle,theres a thought,in league 1.

I thought about this one and then found out on sky sports news last night that he has turned down several job opportunitites because he has his own acadamey!

Nice guy, wasn't right for Leicester. I'll be happy if he finds a tidy little job at a League 1 or 2 club and has a moderately successful management career after this, but his reputation is shot now.

it seems to me that Holloway was gone weeks ago but MM was waiting for an answer from someone else if they wanted the job Billy Davies by the middle of the week anyone?

Id throw fergie`s son Into the picture, done wonders at peterborough! link`s with united are gonna put us in a good position to get there players on loan for example danny welbeck! Im dreading Steve McLaren being touted as a potential successor to holloway! as i dont rate him as a manager. Paul Lambert as some people have mentioned simply Won`t do!

I doubt Fergie jnr would come here. I read somewhere that the Peterboro' chairman was quite loaded so I don't think we could atract him purely on a money basis. Saying that, with no disrespect to Peterboro', the potential we have must be a pull to some people. If we manage to get 15k next season, that would be (virtually) 3 x as many fans as Peterboro' got last season.

Agree about McLaren and Lambert though

As for most people on here, the timing does strike me a bit odd.

First, the announcement that we'd hear about a decision in June, now this.

Surely MM has had a positive reply off another manager :ph34r:

Well this has surprised me, I can't say I'm too disappointed with it, he failed badly. Having said that, he wasn't helped out by his predecessors, and the players have let him down as well.

I bear no malice to Ian Holloway the person, and I wish him and his family all the best for the future. He is a decent bloke, this job was just too much for him.

I would like Billy Davies as our new manager. I loathe the man, arrogant, obnoxious, but a damn good manager who will turn this football club around.

Wow!!

Just read this on the Mercury site!

I am quite shocked but not surprised. Goodness only knows who will want this job but please let it be someone that can inspire good football and get us out of League 1 ASAP!!

Edit: It is not 5:32 but 9:32. What is wrong with the times in this place!

I shouldn't be surprised as I was expecting it anyway. I wake up and log on and see this.

I believed that the club needed stability and it would be better if IH had stayed but it had become inevitable that he'd leave.

As for the new bloke Grayson would be my choice but MM has to let him sign the players and stop interfering in team matters.

There's a manager out there who's record at this level is second to none.

He took a club struggling on the verge's of extinction from the football league and was responsible for taking them to the Championship in 3 seasons.

He took over a "Big" club in turmoil at the bottom of League 1 and guided them to the Championship against all odds that season via the play offs.

He got another club with a boardroom on the verge of lunacy promted to League 1 in his first season with them and then rescued a Championship club who were left in serious trouble by a former tosspot of a manager.

ANYONE FOR STURROCK???????????

MM did say it was business as usual :P
