Samilktray Posted 9 June 2008 Posted 9 June 2008 Holland look impressive, but i can still see them fading as the tournament goes on. Ive been impressed with Sneijder and Engelaar for them aswell.
davieG Posted 9 June 2008 Posted 9 June 2008 Holland - two simply brilliant goals!! Deserve this win and Ive been really impressed by Van Bronkhurst!Great effort onto the bar! But given a one goal start by an inept referee was bound to provide Holland with an added impetus and adversly affect Italy.
Sparky Posted 9 June 2008 Posted 9 June 2008 example: say Buffon, seeing that Ruud is about to be played in ahead of the last man, steps behind his line, putting himself off the field of play and making Ruud only have 1 defender between him and the goal when the ball is played. I asked a ref this few years ago and he said if you delberately left the pitch to catch someone offside you would be booked for leaving the pitch without permission Apparently it would be deemed unsporting behaviour

fox123 Posted 9 June 2008 Posted 9 June 2008 Very good game..... Sneijder and Van Der Vaart have been class... Italy just not getting the luck they had in the World Cup!
Bert Posted 9 June 2008 Posted 9 June 2008 Engelaar was a monster. He'll be sought after this summer if he carries on like that.
Jack Posted 9 June 2008 Posted 9 June 2008 Great perfomance from the Dutch. Thought Van Bronckhorst had a good game, set up and scored a goal. Still don't think you can rule out Italy just yet though.
C-man Posted 9 June 2008 Posted 9 June 2008 Italy had all their bad luck tonight. Watch them go on and win the thing.
davieG Posted 9 June 2008 Posted 9 June 2008 Nit picker, the referee actually makes the decision I should imagine some standing on Mount Vesuvius could see that was off side and my point is still valid
lildave3 Posted 9 June 2008 Posted 9 June 2008 Quality stuff. Holland will take some stopping playing like that, but will they keep it up? Sneijder and Engelaar I thought were the best players tonight, but Holland on the whole were very good. Italy weren't great though. I thought they'd be the ones going out at the group stage and playing like that I could be right.
Bert Posted 9 June 2008 Posted 9 June 2008 Nit picker, the referee actually makes the decision I should imagine some standing on Mount Vesuvius could see that was off side and my point is still valid The linesman didn't raise his flag though. if the linesman had raised his flag, the ref would've then made the correct decision, meaning it was the lino's fault.
Asha Posted 9 June 2008 Posted 9 June 2008 The linesman didn't raise his flag though. if the linesman had raised his flag, the ref would've then made the correct decision, meaning it was the lino's fault. Agreed, the ref cant make that decision, he's behind the play. The linesman is on the side and with a clear view of the line, which is the whole point of linesmans anyway. That decision, was down to the linesman.
Ricey Posted 9 June 2008 Posted 9 June 2008 Fantastic performance from the Dutch. Put some money on them before the Tournament but I didn't have the highest hopes they would get out the group, on that performance though they could well win the whole thing!
Number 6 Posted 9 June 2008 Posted 9 June 2008 The linesman didn't raise his flag though. if the linesman had raised his flag, the ref would've then made the correct decision, meaning it was the lino's fault. I think the term is assistant referee isn't it?
Fox You Forest Posted 9 June 2008 Posted 9 June 2008 I think the term is assistant referee isn't it? Yes, If your name is Sepp Blatter.

I'm now officially bored with this discussion.

Finnegan Posted 9 June 2008 Posted 9 June 2008 Holland beat Wales 2 - 0. Holland beat Italy 3 - 0. Playground logic dictates we're better than Italy. Italy are World Champions. Wales are the best team in the world. Fantastic!

Finnegan Posted 9 June 2008 Posted 9 June 2008 Just a shame we're not in the playground. Oh. So you DON'T want my spare Ronaldo shiny?
Bert Posted 9 June 2008 Posted 9 June 2008 I'll take that and raise you one Ba-dum chish. I am actually nit free, btw.
Jonezy Posted 9 June 2008 Posted 9 June 2008 Holland beat Wales 2 - 0.Holland beat Italy 3 - 0. Playground logic dictates we're better than Italy. Italy are World Champions. Wales are the best team in the world. Fantastic! But Denmark drew 1-1 with them before the Wales game, so Denmark are the best in the World actually..... Great game, but were Italy cursed or something today, they never miss so many chances. The Danish commentators called up the Danish Champions League ref, and he said the first goal was NOT offside, as the defender outside still counted. The rule is make, so defenders are NOT able to cause offside by stepping outside the field. Stupid rule in this case, but I don't mind, I like the Dutch. Domenech should be shot for letting France and their amazing talent play such a piece of crap footie, it was pure Megson.....
