Spain vs Russia

What a chip to xavi, now if he'd have buried that what a goal it would have been. Pleased for Cesc though.

Come on Spain, give us some magic!!

3-1 win for the Spaniards is my prediction.

So close, and Cesc was offside for his goal.

Class performance from Spain and especially Villa! Remember Spain started the WC whacking Ukraine, so keep calm before you place a massive bet on Spain as champions.

God, just imagine if Torres and Villa played together for Liverpool

They would win them the title, but with Benitez's fcuked up rotation system it wouldn't work.

They did look very convincing tearing an able Russian team apart though.

Another highlight of this tournament.

Watched this one at a public viewing spot, right next to my working place.

Good game, very entertaining, although I expected a bit more from the Russians.

Finally a game in which both sides scored.

I'd still be amazed if Spain win the tournament. I'll probably end up with egg on my face if in a couple of weeks they pick up the trophy, but that game exposed as many weaknesses as strengths in Spain's game for me. They'll win the group but that defence looked awfully shaky and if they were to meet Holland in the quarters or semis for instance, then I'm not sure they pass such a stern examination. I'm not trying to take anything away from the attacking brilliance of the Spanish midfield and strikers (David Villa was superb), but Russia could easily have had 3 or 4 goals themselves.

Also, I hope Russia win against Greece for the benefit of the tournament and football in general, I genuinely enjoyed their slick football.

Quality finishing from Spain, bizarre not to start Fabregas though and decisions like that may cost them in the latter stages. Aragones is a twat and this is Spain's best chance for years to win a tournament, I hope he does them justice.

I agree. They looked very shady at the back and against teams putting more pressure on them, closing them down better and attacking down the flanks more ably, they could easily fall apart IMO.

Oh and RicFlair, I don't think not playing Fabregas costs them. Iniesta, Xavi and Silva were all excellent. They compliment each other well. Fabregas is too similar to Xavi and Iniesta who both played very well and to play Fabregas as well would cramp everyones style I reckon.

None of them have the attacking creativity that Fabregas has and considering they don't play attacking wingers, i'm amazed they haven't struggled in recent years. I'll see what happens when they come up against a team who do play with attacking wingers (Portugal) and see what happens then.
