Things you're looking forward to

I was looking forward to an end to the manager speculation and then the inevitable whinging about the appointment. Hooray - that's all done and dusted now.

It's time to look to the future:

I am excited at the prospect of the many away days coming up and a season in L1, going to work on Mondays with a voice croaking from a Saturday afternoon's punishment. I can't wait to go Yeovil, Chelmsford and the Cobblers.

I'm anxious to see Porter back to the team, I'm thinking he could destroy teams in this league if he's allowed to support the front two from deep midfield. Not to mention our youngsters being bloodied in the first team and a couple of decent additions over the summer. Whether he can withstand the tackles he's going to receive is another matter entirely. I hope Maxi hasn't been over-hyped, I've never seen the lad play and yet the thought of having a winger who can actually run, cross and score is mouth-watering.

And then there's the Holy Grail of anticipations - the first back2back win. As they almost say for the little crème eggs, how will you celebrate yours?

Sadly, we missed Porter last season, being one of the few players who could operate down the left flank in an attacking capacity, rather than as a makeweight. The margin of error was so tight last season that one extra goal in any game could have been the difference between us staying up or our eventual relegation. In that respect I think Porter's injury cost us dearly.

All of that plus a manager that has a sense of decorum, pride and integrity who's neither a loony, miserable git or has verbal diarrhoea. Hopefully one that's not full of bullshit, lame excuses, buck passing, believes far too much in good/bad luck and gets his head down and speaks only when he's got something constructive to say.

Finally the biggest hope of all is that he is strong enough and successful enough in his own right to be able to tell the interfering MOF to go and fook himself. :P

I have been watching a player with the capacity to run with the ball, take on players and create opportunities. He is an exciting talent who could actually make something of himself given the right breaks - just because he was a favourite to be moaned about by the half-sharps doesn't mean you have to automatically join the vocal majority.

You're welcome to your opinion of him, but I can see a young man with close control who can unlock defences when played correctly. He didn't fit in to Megson's thought process at all because he wasn't a defender, but the second he left he was given his chance and impressed everyone watching during his 21 minutes against Chelsea. He didn't just raise his game - he was their equal. The only thing people like Fryatt can do is run a bit harder (such as against Villa) whereas Porter displayed true class.

I for one would like to see that on the pitch on a regular basis, you go for a Div.III clogger if you want.

I'm with Daggers on this one. I've always liked Porter, even when the majority had doubts over him. We've seen what he can do before and I firmly believe he can be a success in League One.

He's got the ability I hope still. He can take players on, he can cross a ball and god forbid he could even grab the odd goal from midfield. We saw it when we were in the Championship a couple of seasons ago so technically he should still be able to do it two years later at a lower level.

I've got faith in Levi, I just hope Pearson has too.

Porter could be a good player at this level , depending on the system we go with he could be used in a withdrawn role behind a front 2 or back on the left hand side. Either way id have him in the side

There's little doubt about it. Porter had seven assists in the season before his injury and three goals. A a repeat of that would have seen us safe with something to spare, particularly as we got so little from our left-sided attackers otherwise.

That's quite an effective return for a guy who made 30 starts, but not only that, he was defensively both safe and willing as well as being an excellent continuity player whatever part of the pitch he was in.

Not replacing him properly was one of the single most important factors leading to our relegation because his absence also reduced the number of goal opportunities we created.

I just hope he gets over that injury properly.

I agree.

Not one of our managers last season replaced Porter and we paid the price for it. The creativity (or lack of) from midfield cost us our place in the Championship, there's no doubt about that for me.

Whether or not Porter would have made the significant difference to keep us up nobody will know but there's no doubt he would have improved the midfield. The problem with Levi was towards the end of the 06/07 season when teams eventually sussed him out and he struggled. From then on he wasn't quite the same, and this coupled with his injury brought his first team chances to a grinding halt.

I remember thinking Porter was our best player at the time Milan joined the club. Apparently when he came on at Palace last year he was excellent. He is a great prospect/player and I hope he gets back into the team next year.

All very well and good - but what are you people looking forward to? :D

tha bag of minstrels i've been saving.

And possibly seeing us win games. Regularly. You can keep your Championship, it's yesterdays news anyway.

:frusty:

What player are you watching? we are talking about the same Porter that played out of his skin against Chelsea and set up two goals in that game? against a top class defense? We missed the lad last term, im looking forward to seeing him again.

im looking forward to WESO showing us what hes got and remaining uninjured again. im looking forward to seeing Beswick play, and im looking forward to seeing Hume get the credit he deserves with lots of goals this season.

This is our season folks. im looking forward to the westcountry clashes againt Yeovil and Bristol.

Bring it on!! :scarf:

Away matches oop north, and ditties such as "..what the ****in' hell is this...?"

Rampant 4-2-4 marauding from LCFC, without fear or compromise.

Concentrating on the League, and hopefully finishing in the top 6.

The possibility of the slight chance after six years of misery, we might have a team that’ll be capable of challenging at the right end of the table and winning some games. Just imagine what it will feel like to be top of the league again? Brilliant.

Are you Thracian in disguise :o

Not that I disagree, I agree with the whole post. I always thought Levi looked a capable player. He was excellent against Chelsea and the injury must have been devastating for him. Hopefully, whatever doesn't kill him will make him stronger.
