Tommy G Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 Why? Because hes just turned 18 and driving around in 30k's worth of car. Just wish there was more guidance from the staff/his parents, what was wrong with his brand new fiesta? He could do his cruiciate ligaments tomorrow and never play again, then he will be screwed once his compo for that runs dry. It's all in hindsight though

Who knows, his parents may not approve of all his actions, but however he has the money so will do as he wishes.

You should spend your money more wisely son. Where's the guidance?

Hackneyisblue Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 You can hardly call spending 30k on a car crazy. Most of the people i know have cars worth a lot more than that, and they don't earn footballers wages Well as 30k is a lot more than the average salary I can only assume tou know a lot of gangsters and drug dealers.
billyfox1 Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 You can hardly call spending 30k on a car crazy. Most of the people i know have cars worth a lot more than that, and they don't earn footballers wages i think you can
Houdini Logic Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 Well as 30k is a lot more than the average salary I can only assume tou know a lot of gangsters and drug dealers. The average salary in England is around 32k
Tilley Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 Suprised he's not gone yet. Thought he would have while I was on my holidays.
Maybes Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 The average salary in England is around 32k Im sorry. No it is not.
Houdini Logic Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 Im sorry. No it is not. You realise i haven't just made that figure up, right? It's a figure that was in the paper about a year ago - it has no doubt gone up!
billyfox1 Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 The average salary in England is around 32k Then I, along with most others on here at a guess, am very much underpaid

Most of the people i know have cars worth a lot more than that, and they don't earn footballers wages The average salary in England is around 32k Its about 24-26k I think you'll find. And you think that the average joe buys cars in ''cash''.. worth more than 30k? They are either company cars or you pay for them on a lease, say £400/500 a month? Not many people go out and buy luxury cars straight out!
Ric Flair Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 Very funnyPr*k But joking aside, it's pretty much the same. As long as Mattock isn't living beyond his means, then what's the problem? Ok, so a lot of younger footballers appear to fritter their money away and if their career takes a nosedive then they won't be able to maintain the lifestyle they've been used to and they will need to make adjustments. Likewise, if I lost my job, then i'd be left with a mortgage, car, bills etc to pay and unless I could sort that out, i'd be in a spot of trouble. But you don't live your life worrying about what happens if you suddenly cannot pay for things, otherwise you'd live a very unhappy existance. Footballers in their position, have the opportunity to spend vast amounts of cash and save vast amounts of cash.

Yeh but you automactically jumped on the bodybuilding pisstake bandwagon, necessary when I was only stating my opinion? I thought I made a valid point about how he could end his career tomorrow with a bad injury and then maybe he would be in a spot of bother with paying for his car and whatever else he has. Steve Walsh used to be paid well, now he's driving around in an astra scrimping around for any bit of work he can get.

Steve Walsh used to be paid well, now he's driving around in an astra scrimping around for any bit of work he can get. I apologise, it was too easy an opportunity to make a gag. It was a valid point, but also, what are the advantages of being very, very sensible with your money? Ok, so you don't waste any and if you are ever in any trouble, you have funds to possibly help you, but you also quite frankly don't deserve the money you earn if you aren't going to spend it! Give it to someone who will spend it on slags, cars and crystal.
Maybes Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 You realise i haven't just made that figure up, right? It's a figure that was in the paper about a year ago - it has no doubt gone up! The average wage is in the 20k-25k certainly not in the 30's mate.
Houdini Logic Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 My guess it that Mattock is on about 4k a week? This means the car he purchased equates to 14% of his annual salary. Are you telling me that you would call a guy who is earning 20k a year crazy for spending £2,800 pound on a car? Leave the lad alone

Not many people go out and buy luxury cars straight out! The average salary figure of £32k includes bonuses. Without bonuses it's about £26k. The reason you may know a lot of people on less is because of the nature of the arithmetic mean. Wages are not distributed normally (like in this diagram), but follow this kind of distribution: The average is distorted by a number of high end earners. The median pay, which is a better way of working it out, is about £23700 (see here)

Bryn Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 If I was on footballer money I'd be frivilous as fook. Why the hell not? You only live once.
Alexikokopops Posted 30 July 2008 Posted 30 July 2008 I am well cool. Not many people would bring their own graph into an argument about footballers' pay.

Leave the lad alone Well I'd say its more like the £2,000 mark. which is £104,000 a year. My guess that a brand new A5 would be around the £30,000 mark so thats just under a 1/3 of his salary unless he has bought it on HP.
