wirralsimon Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 This has to be good news. He wasn't all that quick in his prime and he will be slower than ever now, but having spent the whole of last season watching last years squad tamely surrender our proud history of never being out of the top two divisions getting a senior player in who will not stand for lack of effort into the club seems to be exactly what we need! Simon
CupidStunt Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 personally i dont care if he is here for the money or not, aslong as he scores the goals that takes us back up,i couldnt care less some fans love him, some hate him bring him in
Father Ted Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 This would be very good news! Scored goals at Blackpool last season when he went there and would definitely score bags of goals in League 1. Would work his socks off and him and Howard up front would be a deadly big man - small man combo.
MC Prussian Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 Don't think he'll be a massive improvement on what we've got.Would prefer to keep Hayles. COMPARE STRIKE RECORD Hayles, Barry (Age 36) to Dickov, Paul (Age 35) ENTER Hayles, Barry: 302 League Games, 111 Goals Dickov, Paul: 278 League Games, 98 Goals WINNER IS Dickov - sympathy bonus included Hayles did score the odd goal for us but it wasn't enough. Don't really want to see him back here. Would only be for the money. And Hayles did play for us for free?
Simi Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 And Hayles did play for us for free? No, but that's done now and he's here. People are talking about signing players who are young and hungry, why is it now ok to go for someone that ****ed us over before and is just going to be here for his wage? He's got nothing to prove.

I'm confused, that just shows that Hayles has scored more goals than Dickov to me?
MC Prussian Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 that actually makes hayles the more deadly striker, taking off dickov's symphathy bonus of course Why's there something that tells me you omitted my last sentence on purpose...

CupidStunt Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 I'm confused, that just shows that Hayles has scored more goals than Dickov to me? goals to games ratio
Thracian Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 As one who alway's sceptical about old timers I think Dickov is exactly the kind of player we're missing up front. We've had no-one to attack the near post for years nor the sort of hussling striker that makes defenders panic and make mistakes or even give penalties away. Cottee was our last genuine near post specialist and how well it worked. It's all about having the instincts to hurt the opposition and that movement off the mark which someone like Fryatt should have but doesn't. Nor, unfortunately, does he have those near-post instincts. Dickov is a brave footballer who puts his head and his body where it's likely to get hurt and is forever attacking the box. At League One level perfect. And a good guy to have around to improve the craftsmanship of Ashley Chambers and Billy McKay.
Father Ted Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 goals to games ratio I think Hayles would still scrape it but there are many more factors like - how many of those appearances were off the bench for Dickov. How many of those matches for Hayles were lower league/conference matches? MPH Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 Just on RL ummm... what are you doing listening to radio leicester at 8 in the morning?

Until he was linked with us, he was still not welcome around here. The abuse he got at Blackpool will tell you that. No they weren't but as I've said that's not the point. They're here now and here to stay by the looks of things. If Dickov came here, he'd have a lot to prove hopefully. But if I had the choice of signing him or not, I'd tell him to **** off.

Samilktray Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 All this & he will probably turn us down. It's got nothing on the Izale Mcleod thread last year.
Tilley Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 It's got nothing on the Izale Mcleod thread last year. Unfortunately, I wasn't here to witness that.
dandannieldanok Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 Blackpool or City? He'd surely go Blackpool Not really at this stage in his career, I guarantee we'll offer a more lucrative package for him.
