MikeyT Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 Shut up mate your boring. I wont be told to shut up from a little boy! Can the other guy not stand up for himself and need his 17 year old friend to stand up for him!
DB11 Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 yeh im really starting to not believe this was on the radio. Not a whisper elsewhere People on Talking Balls (here) say they heard it too?
Manwell Pablo Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 If he signs good, he'll score goals and I will cheer them, as there Leicester goals however I will not be cheering him, I will not forgive him, The only advantage if he does sign and do well he's too old for other clubs to want him - Therefore we can't resurect his career again for him to throw it back in our faces. I'm too stubborn to cheer him or forgive him for what he did, I'm wouldn't be bother by the fact he left, what I was bother about was he knew he was going well before the end of the season (Apparently) and I know he was caught of guard by the birch but surely when Birch asked him if he was staying he could have just said "We'll have to see what happens over the summer" whats so hard about saying that. Humey did similar, worse perhaps - He wasn't even asked he just came out and did that statement on his own. It'd be a good signing I suppose but i'm not overly bother if he comes or doesn't, Basically he didn't want us so i'm not sure if I want him. forgive him for what Matt? The only thing Paul Dickov has done wrong is been born a complete tosser, I don't blame him for leaving once we were relegated it was the sensible thing to do! Even if he wasn't forced out which many seem to think he was. I'd take him back, I wouldn't say he's more talented then the players we have now but his positional sense and work rate make him easily good enough to bag 15+ at this level even if he is 35.
Daggers Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 I'd love to think there is someone younger that is as good as him who we could get. I really think grabbing blokes of that age in is simply a recipe for disaster. If he doesn't have the passion for the fight then all he does is drain money and emotional energy from the place. Yes, he may be better than anything else we have up front - but that really doesn't say much.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 Really strange this one. On the one hand, Dickov will score at this level, and he will be a pain in the arse for League One defenders all over the country. It's whether the fans want him here that could prove pivotal I feel.

Entirely agree with all that, especially the last part of the comment about him being better than what we already have! Your right. It doesnt really say much about whats already here at the club.
lavrentis Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 Bit of a clique on this forum aint there?? And I would love Dickov back.
Sniffer-Clarke Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 Yeah. I agree with most bring in Dickov he cant be any worse than the ones we have got which are basically CRAP
shen Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 I'd be worried about his injury proneness if he joins...

I agree that getting players of his age isn't the way forward but I'm inclined to believe that he'd put in a hell of a lot more effort and show more passion than the likes of DJ Campbell and Steve Howard based on last season's performances.
Katy Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 I'm not happy with this but then I hold a grudge. And if you know your his-tory Nige!
Sparky Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 Fell out with Dickov big time when he cleared off but you know what i dont give a shite who we sign , i want to win football matches
Ultra Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 We can't live on past glories forever. Signing Dickov would be a big mistake. Remember his goal against us was his first in the league for over TWO YEARS. It would be better to develop young strikers for the future rather than go back to hasbeens seeking one last payday.
Tevez Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 I wont be told to shut up from a little boy! Can the other guy not stand up for himself and need his 17 year old friend to stand up for him! Little Boy? I'm not the only one on here to have fallen asleep reading the first few words of yourshite posts.
Asha Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 I wont be told to shut up from a little boy! Can the other guy not stand up for himself and need his 17 year old friend to stand up for him! I don't like this at all. Why would this make any difference? Age/Height should not reflect how much respect a poster has or their right to their opinion. If he wants you to shut up...so what? Probably every poster has said/thought that about me at some point. So?

Whatever you've got to say about Paul Dickov as a person, as a footballing professional he'll never really give you anything less than a 100%. He only knows how to show up and run around like a gopher on crack. You could debate his fitness and ability to play 90 minutes 46 times a season, but I don't foresee myself ever questioning Paul Dickov's passion for any fight let alone the fight. & Leading Man, put a sock in it. If you've got to flirt with Tevez find somewhere private to do it.
Katy Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 It would be nice to read a thread that doesn't descend into nastiness - unless of course it's aimed at Dickov
Daggers Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 Who is to say that will happen though. Me. On a balance of probabilities based on watching football since the mid 70's and seeing old players join clubs for one last hurrah because it earns them a few extra quid and delays the frightening prospect of retiring from the game. It may not happen - but it's far more likely to happen than if we signed someone younger because players with an attitude like Sherringham's are few and far between. Strikers go off the boil at an exponential rate and just because he was OK last season doesn't mean he'd be any cop at all this season. He's 35. My argument isn't based on disliking him and I don't see it as a clearcut choice between him or the current playing staff. He's got a choice of three clubs by all accounts - I hope he isn't offered a special package to tempt him back simply so we'd know he was here to graft, an honest statement of intent...something like the pay as you play that saw Fowler move faster from Cardiff than he'd done the entire time he was there.
Halfsy Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 Whatever your thoughts are of Dickov (I still hold a vicious grudge) is anyone else fed up with the club being one step/one year behind everyone else?People were talking about Dickov coming here last year...the club weren't interested, he went to Blackpool and scored crucial goals; now the club are interested. Holloway got put on gardening leave because he thought he was coming to us. He didn't, but after a good start with Plymouth, he finally came to us (and messed up). Grayson would have been a popular choice when he was doing well at a League 1 Blackpool, but the club didn't think he was experienced enough. A year later, the club are refused permission to approach him. And the worst....a lot of fans liked the look of Ince and the job he was doing at Macclesfield. The club didn't agree. A year later, he turns us down and goes to Premiership Blackburn. When are we gonna get one right.............? Firstly, i completely agree with that. Secondly, if we can sign Paul Dickov on a one year deal and offload Barry Hayles, this would be a great bit of business. You know what you're going to get from Dickov, a fantastic work rate and if we can keep him fit, plenty of goals. He's exactly what we're missing and up front with Howard they would form a deadly and experienced partnership. When he is banging in goals, everyone will be singing his name once again.

I partly agree but I prefer Dickheadov and Deane, any day of the week, to Dickov and Howard. My main concern would be could Howard do the duties Deane did for us to make these two work as an effective partnership?? Replacing Hayles for Dickov is good business, do you reckon we could tempt Deane back here to replace Howard?
