So after all the critisism thrown at Howard lately, not one person has come in here and said something negative towards him really? :dunno:

Oh dont get me wrong I still don't like him and think hes still a sheep shagging ****.

I'm sure you won't be hard pressed to remember Fryatt's miss either? ;)

With Howard on board, we probably have the most expensive striker in the entire league (apart from McLean, if I'm not mistaken)!

DJ Campbell cost more.

But cost and value are very different things, it would seem.

I hear this from fans. Describe what you mean by effort? His geniune lack of pace means that he looks like he's only going for things half heartedly. As soon as the ball is inside the box he's as keen as anyone, that's where his office is.

Perhaps he is actually only going for things half-heartedly if that is what it looks like. The bloke can move so I don't think immobility should be an excuse for not doing much, and I have to disagree with the ball inside the box thing. Maybe that has changed in pre-season, having not attended any one of these games your more qualified than me to say that, but from the competitive games I saw very little desire to go and get the ball. I hope he scores lots of goals for us but if he performs the same way as he did last season in the opener against MK Dons I'll be severely pissed off.

Oh god know, I mainly dont like Fryatt due to our fans singing 'der der der der' after one of our players has missed a shot.

This really pisses me off and glad this has been posted

Steve Howard is a TARGET MAN! he won so many headers and knock downs last season that it was unreal won 85% of balls played into him. BUT hollowhead bought a target man (an immobile one to!) and played no one close alongside him to benefit from his work.

Sure he doesnt really attack crosses to well but his linkup play was spot on but the team didnt play to this style which is why Holloway confused me.

Steve Howard is a top quality target man, i hate the abuse he gets compared to the hero worship of Fryatt and Hume! its the opinions of fans not people who understand football :P

Bang on....

Supply him and he will score more than alot we have, and by the way Iain Hume for all his hard work .....clocked in 132 games and netted 34 goals thats 1 in 4 games! (3.88)

Our style of play last season was so predictable I'm not surprised Howard struggled/was complete shíte.

Hopefully this season we will play in a way that will get the best out of him.

Goals.

I'm prepared to broaden this to Goals & Assists.

Howard isn't alone, the whole team have something to prove - the ones who got us relegated, the kids coming through and the new ones. We will meet success or failure as a team and Howard plays a key role in that end - his ability to hold the ball and include pace players joining the attack will prove to be key in unlocking the tight defences we'll meet week in week out.

Not just that but look at the flack the Leeds front-line had during the season they went down and compare it to how they started off last season banging them in for fun.

I have hopes for Howard that goes beyond simply netting goals. He'll be good for us this season.

Personally I've always made a point of trying to defend Howard.

However I make no bones that imo Fatty Fryup is dog shite, and have regularly said so.

Howard was brought in to score goals for the side.

For this he didn't deliver for me last season. Scoring in just 4 games since January.

Although the style of football play agreed didn't help him. Holloway simply didn't play the football that Howard was requiring.

But on too many occasions, his aerial ability looked poor. For a player that was brought in as a target man, he simply didn't deliver last season in my opinion.

His lack of fight for the cause was obvious, and thus leading to him getting abuse from the fans, from a player carrying a £1.5million price tag.

Saying that, he is being given a second chance this season. I will not form an opinion on him for next season until i've seen him play for us a few times. But as a step-down in standard, and the possibility of leading the line in a side with two wingers who will give him the type of delivery he has been craving for. His time to prove to me that he is worthy of the starting spot up front won't be very long.

I wish him the best of luck for the forth-coming season, and hope he goes and scores a bucket full of goals.

But if he is to do so, there needs to be a massive improvement in his game.

I think there will be a massive improvement he looks so much fitter/sharper after this pre-season thats another reason i'd be pissed off if he went now

Obviously he was disappointing last season, but frankly if I was a striker of any sort in that team I'd be shitting myself about where the goals were going to come from.

I've not seen any of the pre-season games myself, but if what I've heard is to be believed there's much more emphasis now on getting forward and getting balls into the box, so even if he doesn't thrive I expect him to contribute a lot more than he has done so far.

Even if he is shit, I hope that people let the manager see that for himself and let him make the decision when to drop him, if necessary. I KNOW people are entitled to their opinion because they've paid over their hard money etc etc but when it comes to screeching those opinions at players on the pitch in no uncertain terms, I think they need to stop for a moment and ask if it's really helping, beyond perhaps making themselves feel more important than they actually are. When sections of the crowd started on Carl Cort last season, he was still shit, he still got played, still got paid thousands of pounds every week, and the only effect it had was to contribute to the growing air of negativity about the place that persisted until we got relegated

People are always quick to hammer our players when they dont perform and dont do the job they were brought in for.

People shouldnt hammer the younger players who are still learning the trade BUT in Howard(and many others last season!) they failed to deliver BIG TIME!

Especially when they were bought at a time when we needed that optimistic boost and we,as fans were waiting for that new Cit icon.

Howard, who has done well to work his way up in the game AND gain a decent reputation(A Derby fan friend of mine was gutted that we got him!) should feel ashamed of his input last season(Along with others!)

I dont go with the idea that even IF he does score loads of goals this season all will be forgiven(Goes for many others!!!)

IF we GO up......will the same players who relegated us do any better in the C'chip the second time round???

I'd love to see Howard and Co be successful next season, but for US and NOT THEM!!!

I also dont want to see the same players ,who fcuked us up the arse last season, going around and kissing the badeg and holding babies and kissing them IF and wehn we go on a decent run as if they are the new heros of LCFC....

Yeah....Cheers for last season lads....BUt im sure you'll bang em in,in LG1....

Should forget the past really eh...... :)

20 goals this season. if he can't do that at this level then he should give up. He HAS been proven in the championship with decent service, lets hope our wingers can do it for him this season

The jurys still out on him in my eyes.

If he's going to be starting most of the games this season then he should be aiming to net AT LEAST 15 goals pushing for 20.

The bloke a target man :crylaugh: How many flick ons did he win last season ? Get rid, he's a mardy arse aswell always moaning at the ref when he should be focus on the game.

Sell for anything more then 500,000.

I think some of our fans are confused. They are expecting something from Steve Howard that they aren't going to get. There will be no turn of pace, no get the ball and beat a man ala Gradel.

And there lies the problem. The old fashioned centre forward has no place in the modern game from a fans point of view. If players don't have pace or an abundance of skill, they are called crap and lazy.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think Howard has been as good as he should have been for us, but then again hardly anybody was for us last season. Because of the way Howard plays, people assume he's un-interested and couldn't give a fook. I seriously doubt that very much.

What i'm trying to say is, perhaps if fans realised the limitations in Howard's game, they might not get so worked up about it when he plays.

It's still plain to see from his goal scoring record that if we play to his strengths, then he'll score goals for us, especially in the league we are in. But that's all he is, a goal scorer. He does his business in the box, usually from crosses. When he doesn't score, fans will moan.

I'm not going to get on his back, there isn't any alternative we have amongst our ranks better than him right now. Fryatt is appearing to be re-discovering his form and that's encouraging, but DJ is as much a disappointment as Howard has been to many.

Please try to distinguish between a lack of pace and being a lazy, mardy 32 year old footballer who doesn't want to be here. Perhaps if Howard took his boots off every so often and did a little wave, there would be a bit more leniency from our fans.

I gather, there was a section of our fans telling him to 'fook off' when he got substituted on Saturday, marvelous.

Couldn't agree more Ric.

People who are overly critical of Howard just dont understand his role in the team.

What ?!! Last year he played his part didn't he  I'm sorry but just because its a new season and all, He's still the same player we had last season.

I can't beleive how fickle some people can be, wow new season Howard will score 40 and set up another 20.

Agreed, although the service to him last season was poor he still should have been a nuisance for the defenders, as you say he was more of a nuisance towards the ref.

It's true, I don't understand his role in the team. Looking at last season, it can't be consistent goal scoring, it can't be target man because he really didn't win much at all in the air, it can't be as a goal provider because I didn't see him assist anyone...............so what is his role, please tell me I'm stumped.

Some Leicester fans think New season = new improved player and its make no sence whats so ever.

What next ... Stephen Clemence wasn't that bad last season thread ...

Howard is a donkey.

He was a good player at Derby and Luton, with a decent scoring record for both teams. Players don't become rubbish over night, he is getting older and he will lose pace/mobility, BUT that was never his strong point anyway. People are willing to give him another go because we didn't create anything last year... for any of our strikers. Plus we will be playing against inferior players to those we played against last year.

Clemence is another player who has proved his worth with other teams and the same applies for him as it does Howard. It can just take the right manager/style of play to get both of them playing well again.

I'm willing to give them all another chance. If they don't perform Pearson doesn't strike me as someone to stand for it.

New season, proven record except at us (possibly something to do with the crap service), better service (hopefully), worse league, worse defenders, - i think he may well do ok this season

lol. In a team that scored only 42 goals he scored six of them in 20 appearances. He wasn't that bad for peats sake. He was more prolific than Deej and for that sake Matty Fryatt!!
