Guest Bilo Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 Looks too similar to Shrewsbury's ground for my liking. At least the facilities should be better than Layer Road. http://www.footballgroundguide.com/colchester_united.htm
Floating Fox Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 Another stadium designed by complete Idiots. I feel for Colchester fans.

SamL Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 Similar layout to Northamptons ground. Layer Road might have been a bit of a dump but at least it had a bit of character.
dandannieldanok Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 I like the idea that they didn't inflate the capacity too much to ensure it is full every game but it's extremely bland.
Manwell Pablo Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 Nice??That is awful Looks alright. Layer roads alright if your a tin pot League Two team, and it's a good day out for patronising fans like ourselves to go and talk about how nice and rustic it is, but if you want to go somewhere you need a better ground.
Charnwood Norris Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 Looks awfully 80's. I hate those grounds where the wind and cold air gets in through the gaps. 10'000 capacity is piss pot size to say the least.

True, Colchester ain't exactly the warmest of places in England. However, the U's never had more than 5'500 fans on average per game, so 10'000 is actually a pretty optimistic figure. Can't really expect them to build a state-of-the-art New Layer Road, as I guess funds must've been limited anyway. For what it is, it looks ok to me.
purpleronnie Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 I prefer 4 stands rather than a boring bowl, its better but not much better. I think money must be the reason for all these boring stadiums.
purpleronnie Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 Disabled sections at the back again Idiots. Are you pissed off because you won't have a good view at the back?
Corky Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 Looks like a smaller version of the Brittannia (sp?).
Durnerz Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 Tidy ground with the potential to be bigger should Colchester blag a few more fans back off West Ham where the corners can be filled in.
purpleronnie Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 Tidy ground with the potential to be bigger should Colchester blag a few more fans back off West Ham where the corners can be filled in. Yeah turn a boring ground into an even more boring ground.
Floating Fox Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 Much prefer it to ours. How the **** do you work that out? I HATE the walkers, but that's even worse! Nothing wrong with it. Nothing right with it.
Ashley Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 Nice stadium, they should of filled the corners in. For those of you saying they wont fill it, I disagree its a new stadium people from Colchester will go there just so see it etc.. Leicester were only getting 19/20,000 at filbert street we moved into the Walkers and filled it in week in week out.
