At this very moment I really can't think of anything less interesting or exciting than the prospect of Tuesday night JPT match in Hartlepool!!

although if we get all the way to Wembley!!! :scarf::banana::celebrate:

Doesn't matter if it's a top of the table clash or a cold, tuesday night in Hartlepool, you put out your strongest team and beat the opposition put in front of you. If we get a goal or two up, fine, stick the reserves on to see the job through but all of this squad rotation ballacks does my head in.

I presume the people not interested in it, embarrassed by it and not caring whether we win or not, won't be bothered about going to Wembley if we get there? Excellent, more tickets for the rest of us.

I doubt you'll be saying the same if we win the JPT and finish 7th.

Another good opportunity to keep the second string fit.

If we play anyone else it'd be damn stupid...pointless cup competition only of any value to those who do not understand the financial importance of promotion. If we are in this league next year then what the hell....let's go for it. Meanwhile, I couldn't give a toss about it, the League Cup or the FA Cup.

If it were Chesterfield or Notts County fair enough, but this just takes the piss. Are they even going to be able to sell 10 tickets?

I wish we were in the southern section with Aldershot and Barnet :(

As for the team, it'll be a good opportunity to give the players who get five minutes here and there starts, so its not a worthless competition, even if its understandably not a priority - I'd like to see us give it a good shot, as the bigger positive run we can get the better and only a fool would turn down a trophy, even if its not a high-profile one.

As for the team selection, Pearson will probably play as many of the second-string as he can without getting into trouble. Common sense really considering the size of the squad.

I thought they implemented a rule for the JPT that you had to play a minimum of 6 or 7 first team players i.e. players who played in the previous league game.

There is a similar rule for the League Cup, but I don't think it's ever been enforced.

The fine for fielding an under strength side is £5,000.

Winning this trophy will bring us nothing. Winning a place back in the Championship is worth a lot more than £5k.

I can see why people think we should take this competition seriously, but we have a long, hard season ahead of us. We cannot, and will not, win every game this season. We will have many injuries and suspensions before the season ends. Realistically we have to prioritise all competitions we are in, and the League must come first. They rest may provide the fans with a nice day out, but could ultimately prove to be a costly distraction to the main aim of this season; promotion.

I will be in Hartlepool to cheer the lads on, but if we end the season with a cup and in 8th place, I will be gutted.

Completely agree.

By all means lets not just shun the comp off but we must prioritise on promotion. Along with other obvious points, we've already got one key player injured so lets minimise the risk of any more injuries.

I know a winning mentality goes a long way regardless of if its a league/cup game but tbh i'd rather just get this shit JPT over with and focus solely on the league. But then again ... a trip to Wembley. haha.

It's our only chance of silverware. And also a trip to Wembley thrown in.

We need to make sure we win the fecking thing.

We're not going to be winning any other trophys any time soon.

I was all for this competition before it started. Go out and win it. Yes. We should be able to win this.

But after the league cup game and the injury to Mattock, is it really worth putting out a full strength team against whatever nobodies it happens to be?

I'd do what the big clubs do in the league cup. Put out the youth team.

This competition is not worth the possible injuries we might get - even to the players who might make the bench for first team league games.

Just put out a youth team.

Risking promotion against this tin cup is not worth it.

I dunno, if it were the FA Cup I might be able to make an exception

...and the probability of that would be? :dunno:

As Tony Bliar once said "League, League and League!"

What about the Division 3 trophy, or whatever name it is masquerading under these days? :dunno:

Quite. In my opinion, that is our best chance of silverware this season.

No really Tads. DONT DO IT.

>_<

But if we make it to the third round of the FA Cup then we have to play them on a cold tuesday night in January. Almost best to get it out the way
