DB11 Posted 2 February 2009 Author Posted 2 February 2009 I've not been on it since the 27th December 2008
Unknown Fox Posted 2 February 2009 Posted 2 February 2009 I've not been on it for 3 hours <_< How you feeling?
Finnegan Posted 2 February 2009 Posted 2 February 2009 I think my problem is that I'm just FM'd out, really. I played 06 and 07 to the death. Then played 09 solidly up until last week. Just... lost it's charm. Normally I swap leagues and go again but this time, I don't know. I think I've hit my FM peak. I now know pretty much everything there's to know that I'm.. going to know.

Damn, I was enjoying reading all your advice and stuff from your games.
Finnegan Posted 2 February 2009 Posted 2 February 2009 Damn, I was enjoying reading all your advice and stuff from your games. Really the best advice I can give is to find a method that works for you. When I first got 09 it felt totally different to me; I couldn't quite work out what was missing. So I went and read the guides and the tactics bibles and did all the number crunching and used their tactics. And it was okay, I won a few more games but something just wasn't still there. So I tweaked and tweaked and adapted and adapted and next thing I know I'm cruising to 6 - 2 wins and 5 - 3 wins and having great fun playing my old 06/07 brand of "score-one-more-than-you" football. And I stop and look at my tactics and think "oh.." and realise I've gone back to doing what I was originally.. my way. I guess what I'm trying to say is, unless you're a total idiot, you can pretty much make any tactic work. Just spend time tweaking with trial and error, adopt someone else's "style" to start with but from there - if you want to grow at the game - you've got to spread your own wings. Beneath all the pomp and show, Football Manager really is just a fancy spreadsheet. It's just about numbers. Keep listening to your scouts, keep bringing in players with higher numbers than the last and you'll win. You don't have to be a genius to win leagues, look at JoeyB.

I Went On The Tactics Bible. I Think Im Going To Shut Up Shop At Sheff UTD first Game Of Season.
JoeyB Posted 3 February 2009 Posted 3 February 2009 everton is the team you want to be. Beat Hamburg 5-0 away from home. and was sitting a pretty 2nd till i had to play, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool - within about 6/7 games, need i say im 3/4 now.
Cobbo Posted 3 February 2009 Posted 3 February 2009 I am having a crap first few games of the season - drawn a few but cannot buy a win. Have noticed that a few of my coaches have left without it even letting me know throughout the game so this could be a reason - anyon else experienced this?
New England Fox Posted 3 February 2009 Posted 3 February 2009 Yes I've had that too, at the end of last season my assistant manager and all FIVE scouts left and I never knew, until I went to scout someone obviously.

The game should tell you, but I don't remember my coaches' names so I don't notice when clubs approach them.
Lovejoy Posted 3 February 2009 Posted 3 February 2009 A cash injection plus some generous offers for players have meant I've quite a war chest with PSG. Still got a bit to go to match Lyon though at this stage.
New England Fox Posted 3 February 2009 Posted 3 February 2009 The game should tell you, but I don't remember my coaches' names so I don't notice when clubs approach them. Nobody approached mine, their contracts just ran out and they left without telling me. How rude!
shen Posted 3 February 2009 Posted 3 February 2009 Nobody approached mine, their contracts just ran out and they left without telling me. How rude! The game tells you that their contracts are expiring... (at least 3 times!)
New England Fox Posted 3 February 2009 Posted 3 February 2009 The game tells you that their contracts are expiring... (at least 3 times!) Well it didn't this time for some reason. Actually thinking about it I know for a fact it didn't tell me because I saw that my Assistant Managers contract had run out and that he was on a month-to-month contract. So I decided to leave him on that and look to recruit someone better. He stayed on that for about 6 weeks and then next minute he was gone and was listed as unemployed because he had just upped and left and I never got any notification.
Lovejoy Posted 3 February 2009 Posted 3 February 2009 Two days til the transfer deadline and I've got a striker crisis with Luyindula (sp?) and Gudjohnson out for two months. I'm left with Lewandoski who's young and a bit raw, Kezman, who's shite, and Jimmy Briand, my only decent remaining forward. I've got £311k to spend and am dead on the wage budget. Any recommendations for loans?
DB11 Posted 3 February 2009 Author Posted 3 February 2009 With Robbie Keane joining Defoe and Chimbonda back at Spurs, it means Football Manager 2008 is more up to date than Football Manager 2009!

Cobbo Posted 4 February 2009 Posted 4 February 2009 The game tells you that their contracts are expiring... (at least 3 times!) It did on the other ones. Not on this. They just leave. So I'm trying to give them mega long contracts now and again to avoid it.
Finnegan Posted 4 February 2009 Posted 4 February 2009 The trick for coaches is, if anyone comes to sign them, offer them a new contract for the longest duration and for a fair wage (not so much you'll regret it after if they stay.) You get fook loads of compo because they'll sign and then join the other club anyway.

No.... when another club comes in for them if you offer them a new contract they have two offers on the table and choose where to go. They won't accept yours and then still leave
Ashley Posted 4 February 2009 Posted 4 February 2009 No.... when another club comes in for them if you offer them a new contract they have two offers on the table and choose where to go. They won't accept yours and then still leave On FM08, Liverpool always used to try and steal John Rudkin off me.
