Munzie Posted 25 September 2008 Posted 25 September 2008 Bugger!I've already done a dummy run to Stanmore car park to reserve my space!!!! No worries, judging by the divide on here, there should be plenty of spaces on the day!
Ultra Posted 26 September 2008 Posted 26 September 2008 I don't see much wrong with wanting to win games and competitions. Daggers obviously does. In his book, ambition is a capital offence. No wonder he wanted Holloway to stay..
Corky Posted 26 September 2008 Posted 26 September 2008 This tournament should be treated in the same manner as MON approaches the League Cup with Villa. It's not often I disagree with you Daggers, but I am over this. There is no reason, with the squad we've got, why we can't win promotion and this competition. I'd like to do well in it, that's for sure. I'd like to go to Wembley again. As long as it doesn't distract us from our main aim of winning promotion I see no harm in trying to win this Cup.
Thracian Posted 26 September 2008 Posted 26 September 2008 From what I can gather Gradel's not that badly injured and even if he misses tomorrow's game I don't see that it should be a problem. It might even be a blessing. Gradel's got stacks on his mind anyway and hasn't been anything like at his best so far and if his absence means we have to use other members of the squad for a bit well, that's what they are there for and it will certainly be doing them no good sitting around watching week in week out. Cup matches - all cup matches - can be so valuable if they are approached purposefully. I didn't watch the Lincoln game being away on holiday but I would ask did we try some new free-kicks or perhaps a new free-kick specialist? Did we try swapping the wingers over? Did we try 3-4-3? Or 3-5-2? Did we use Porter in central midfield? What the hell did we do? Every time the manager puts his team out is an opportunity to learn more about its capabilities, collectively and individually. A cup game is an opportunity to try something that might need some fine tuning. It is not an inconvenience it is an opportunity. It is also a vehicle for improving focus and instilling the idea that every game on the calendar is a game that requires winning - and with 100% effort and concentration towards that end. Injuries too are an occupational hazard that have to be dealt with and they offer the opportunity for the manager to instil a mentality which says we never feel sorry for ourselves, we show faith in the squad and we win the next game whatever. It is the reason I would never willingly cancel a fixture, internationals or not. I would pick who remained and tell them to play even better than the people they replaced. It would be the perfect opportunity to show complete belief in them. Games in hand are nothing more than a nuisance anyway and it is very rare that you win them all especially if they become part of a fixtures pile up.
Hullfox Posted 26 September 2008 Posted 26 September 2008 I didn't watch the Lincoln game being away on holiday but I would ask did we try some new free-kicks or perhaps a new free-kick specialist? Yes, Nicky Adams had a pop. Did we try swapping the wingers over? Yes Did we use Porter in cntral midfield? No, rumour has it he was on holiday with you.
Daggers Posted 26 September 2008 Author Posted 26 September 2008 Daggers obviously does.In his book, ambition is a capital offence. No wonder he wanted Holloway to stay.. So, let me get this straight - you were shouting about bailing on the club because we were going to be relegated to the third tier but now you are a paragon of virtue, championing ambition through the medium of the Whateveritis Cup? Priceless. With ambition like that I can now see how you can be such a blinkered supporter of Gordon Brown.
Thracian Posted 26 September 2008 Posted 26 September 2008 Yes, Nicky Adams had a pop.Yes No, rumour has it he was on holiday with you. So that's why my wife was looking so chirpy! No wonder she kept sending me off to the golf course. He must have stowed away in the glove compartment!

Added to that, the fact that Adams came on against Orient and looked much more threatening than Gradel. Don't get me wrong, I like Gradel, he's got an abundance of talent and his attitude, especially given what he's been through, is first class. Maybe Gradel needs a small break to recover from all that his hit recently, and he can come back a better player.

Coupled with the fact that I'm yet to see him have a decent game - but I'm assured by those who saw the two games I missed that he was good and will therefore be a total loss
maddog Posted 29 September 2008 Posted 29 September 2008 Max carried off in tears - now how many people thought I was being stupid when I said we shouldn't risk players in this wank tourno? Players who would be good for the promotion push should not be risked for no reason - and this was so ****ing predictable! What a waste of ****ing effort this cup competition is. So you won't be going Wembley if we get to the final then Of course you will be
Joe. Posted 29 September 2008 Posted 29 September 2008 Oh dear, oh dear maddog. Have you actually read this thread?
maddog Posted 29 September 2008 Posted 29 September 2008 Oh dear, oh dear maddog. Have you actually read this thread? some of it 7 pages too many. What have i missed
dandannieldanok Posted 29 September 2008 Posted 29 September 2008 some of it 7 pages too many. What have i missed You'll probably get a mouthful of abuse and a lot of " " by those who don't recognise this competition as worthwhile.
Manwell Pablo Posted 29 September 2008 Posted 29 September 2008 All very true, I'd say. Football fans can be very fickle, especially our bunch. I certainly wouldn't make the trip to Wembley if we got there, and I'm more than happy to be held to that. I doubt SUAS would make the trip either. And if Daggers says he wouldn't, I'm inclined to believe him. When he flies into a bit of a rage, it tends to mean he's serious. Is the final on a Saturday or a Sunday? and who have we got in the next round?
JakeShingler Posted 29 September 2008 Posted 29 September 2008 Is the final on a Saturday or a Sunday? and who have we got in the next round? We will not no untill every one else has played in about 2 weeks i think
Trav Le Bleu Posted 15 January 2009 Posted 15 January 2009 Tunchev possibly out for the rest of the season (certainly quite a while) Was this the kind of thing you were refering to Daggers?
Thracian Posted 15 January 2009 Posted 15 January 2009 Dags' message went out loud and clear from a good many of us on here. We shouldn't even have had a replay. A total lack of realism has given us unnecessary problems we could so easily have avoided. As well as unwanted time on the M40 hard shoulder for Daggers!

Ric Flair Posted 15 January 2009 Posted 15 January 2009 Sorry but some of this is bull shit. I am aggrieved that we've picked up some bad injuries this year and they have tended to happen in the cups, but whose to say they wouldn't have happened in the league? If I get hurt doing over-time when they perhaps didn't need me at work, is that poor form on my employment or an occupational hazard? The FA Cup is a competition that should be taken seriously if possible and we were going there to try and get the win, for us to do that you need your best players and Tunchev is our best player. Injuries are part and parcel of football, I don't believe it makes one iota of difference if a player is injured in an important league game or a cup game or friendly.

On a different note, i think NP shouldn't have been so negative in the first game. Atleast we can concentrate on the league now!!!!

I know what you're saying Raj, but to be fair to Pearson. Fryatt was injured in the first game and he put Gradel in, which a lot of us were pleased to see him do. The make up of the side should have been good with Gradel, Dyer and Davies supporting Howard, but sadly we didn't really get it going. Dickov has shown he can't work with Howard that well and we have very few options when Fryatt is injured. I imagine Pearson is becoming aware of this. Chambers is an option that will possibly be looked at more closely, but we need new bodies.

I wouldnt do that. He has been a ray of sunshine to this club. BUT i do think we were negative in the home game. If we'd have gone for it and lost i dont think TOO many people would have been overly critical. I wasnt overly excited about Dickov's return and it has been proved it was fruitless. He's worse than Howard!!! BUT NP does have to think about a few things(replacement for Tunch and a strikeforce that can score if Fryatt is unavailable) before the Yeovil game and i'm sure he will come up trumps eventually. Im sure before the season started that most sane city fans would have been ecstatic with being top of the League in Jan and that the Cups would just be a bonus or a day out. League it is then... LETS DO IT!!!! Bye bye all!!!
C-man Posted 15 January 2009 Posted 15 January 2009 And the fact that Tunchev went down with no-one near him suggests that it could have happened at anytime in training. Unfortunately, it's happened and we have to move on. At least no clubs are going to come in for him this window!

Totally agree, the game of football doesn't change from cup to league, it could have happened anytime. I think all cup competitions should be taken seriously, we obviously weren't going to win the FA Cup but if we had got past Palace then there was every chance we'd beat Watford too and got a decent draw afterwards.
