No two seasons are the same and I'm sure no one is getting carried away with our early success but there's a long way to go.
Koke Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 Our resources and budget is far bigger than Swansea's and Doncaster's will ever be. I don't like being compared to clubs like theirs, because quite frankly we have set the bar very high. We have high standards and ambitions. Theirs was probably ankle height. Long way to go and we could still **** it up, but we won't slump from 1st and finish 8th. If we bollocks it up it'll be by just missing out.

You only have to slump to third to miss out in the lottery of the playoffs. Budget's don't win games, I believe we had a budget bigger than most last season. Besides this is not meant to be an exact science just a reminder that we're not promoted just yet.
Koke Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 Besides this is not meant to be an exact science just a reminder that we're not promoted just yet. I agree with that. And I do believe most fans have their feets firmly on the ground.
Guest Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 You'd be foolish to think that we were already promoted, however, I feel that the matter is very much in our hands, and this season more than ever, promotion is there for us to win, rather than relying on the fortunes of others.
James. Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 I don't care what happened last season. We have the players, the depth of squad, the manager and the fans to get promoted from this division. So far we've shown that and as long as Pearson maintains that level (I actually think the team has more to give, we haven't seen the best yet) then promotion is and will continue to be in our hands.

Yeah - whilst being leaders now doesn't mean we will be leaders at the end of the season, it's sure better than being 15th or 16th and aiming for the top.
Thracian Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 but this is how the table looked after 9 games last seasonhttp://www.htafc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Leag...0071002,00.html Swansea & Doncaster got auto promotion. No two seasons are the same and I'm sure no one is getting carried away with our early success but there's a long way to go. Some of the current euphoria perhaps more reflects relief that the embarrassments of recent seasons seem to be over rather than any assumptions about where we'll end up this season. Irrespective of the long term outlook we've got a settled side that appears, at long last, to be our best available. We've got seemingly decent team spirit, genuinely good wingers and a manager who seems prepared to try to win every game. Altogether those are big steps forward whether we go up or not. Happily too the team, doubtless due to the philosophies of the manager, seems to take every game and every opponent seriously and each member of the team seems to know what's expected of him when he steps onto the pitch and determined to do his best to deliver. I'm sure that, come the second half of the season, excitement about possible promotion will grow if results continue to be good. But meanwhile I think Pearson's approach of trying to win as many points as possible now, both home and away, is focusing minds on nothing more than the next game on the programme. And that, to me, is as it should be. One match at a time. Give your all.
Corky Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 Well I'm not getting carried away, we've seen it can turn sour more than enough times before. I've also seen how hard teams try in this division, and we are a scalp. They look at our ground, with 20,000 in every week, and they want to win badly. Away from home we take plenty, and players will want to shut us up. However, we have shown plenty of resolve so far. We've edged games that in the last four years we wouldn't have won. We've attacked away from home, we've scored goals away from home. We are top on merit, you don't win seven out of nine through luck alone. We have a manager that is grounded, knows what could happen and how to overcome any problems. The Millwall match was a reality check, and look how we've responded. There is a long, long way to go, but we are a team playing with confidence and determination. We definitely are capable of finishing in the top two.
Joe. Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 This has absolutely no relevance to this season Davie, sorry!
Manwell Pablo Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 but this is how the table looked after 9 games last seasonhttp://www.htafc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Leag...0071002,00.html Swansea & Doncaster got auto promotion. Quite, the last time we all got really happy about being a brilliant football team and being top of the league, we got beat, at home, by shitty Milwall.

Look lively everyone, Mr Happy's here. And stop smiling, we might lose in two weeks time.
Daggers Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 Here's mine just in case anyone else fancies pissing on them...
JakeShingler Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 I think we will have a clear idea were we will finish on the 26th December.
Samilktray Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 I think we will have a clear idea were we will finish on the 26th December. 3 or 4 months before the end of the season?
Corky Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 I think we will have a clear idea were we will finish on the 26th December. Why is the Leeds match more important than any other?
JakeShingler Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 Why is the Leeds match more important than any other? Because they will be the big contenders of this Leauge.
Joe. Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 Why is the Leeds match more important than any other? To be fair, it probably is. Leeds are the one team I'm worried about this season personally. However saying, that we won't have a good idea until a month before the finish in my opinion.
Corky Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 Because they will be the big contenders of this Leauge. So are S****horpe, Oldham, Walsall at the moment.

JakeShingler Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 So are S****horpe, Oldham, Walsall at the moment. Yes but we play them before Leeds.
