The Agony, the Ecstasy and Oh the Agony

Probably the only one of my Top 10 All Time Great City Matches where we lost. When the equaliser went in it was sheer, beautiful, mayhem. I remember about 30,000 City fans walking out at the end signing "Always look on the bright side of life."

Mind, we've had some "epic" encounters with Swindon. 0-2 with 8 minutes to go and won 3-2 (Mark Venus screamer); the 2-5 defeat in the year of the Great Escape (head in hands, woe is me time).

****ing hell.

I was too young to be there, can only imagine the emotions that day. I've just replayed that Thompson goal about 5 times and felt like I was there. Can only begin to imagine the celebrations in the ground at the time.

My first time at Wembley and a game that by its rollercaoster nature pretty much encapsulates what it's been like to support City since.

Probably one of the first leicester games i watched. Every time my mum went out of the room we pulled a goal back, so we kept trying to usher her into the conservatory! :giggle:

Julian Joaychim (as said by Pleat) - what a wasted talent, he was a class player at Leicester, scored some great goals, but never achieved much after leaving. Remember the match well - at 3-0 down the moron in the next seat threatened to kick my ducking head in - at 3-3 he turned and kissed me. He missed the 4th goal - must have gone for a leak I think

He was well tanked up - been drinking at the Wembley Hilton apparently. Fortunately his mate calmed him down, though not sure why he picked on me. >_<

After I had calmed down, I felt something running down my ankle. I rolled up my jeans to see a massive gash on my shin, which I must have done on a seat or something, that was pouring with blood. I hadn't felt a thing.

We were in one of the last row of seats before the Swindon fans which made it interesting then & at the final whistle. Had a chat with one of them at the end lamenting that we had never won at wembley (at that time) he pointed out they had never lost there!

I still get goose bumps when I think of that equaliser. I've never known joy like it.

"Whitlow drives forward now, and pulls it back for Thompson, and Thompson has equalised! It's unbelieveable stuff now!"

Iconic commentary from Alan Parry.

I always remember that line, i love watching the game and listen for the commentator saying that when we equalise. Quality stuff! It always makes me feel happy, until they get the penalty.

That day was so sore that if they sing ''did you cry at Wembley'' 2000 City fans will have a repeat breakdown. :sweating::sweating:

Two words my friend; Histon. Town.

Actually, losing in the first round of the FA Cup to a non-league side will always come second to losing 4-3 at Wembley in a play-off final with Glen sodding Hoddle playing against you, but still... This game cemented me as a City fan for life. I had never experienced highs and lows like that before.
