davieG Posted 14 November 2008 Posted 14 November 2008 Some rumours that he's already gone. From BBC Swindon could part company with boss Maurice Malpas later on Friday after a disappointing start to the season. Malpas held meetings with chairman Andrew Fitton on Thursday after the team were knocked out of the FA Cup and Johnstone's Paint Trophy this week. BBC Radio Swindon understands a final decision will only be taken this morning but it is thought likely he will leave the County Ground. Swindon have won just four of their 14 League One games this season. The final straw is thought to have been the club's departure from both the FA Cup and Johnstone's Paint Trophy to Blue Square Premier side Histon and League One rivals Brighton respectively. The Swindon board placed a high importance on progression in the cup competitions, and the team's early exit from all of them is likely to cause a few financial headaches at the County Ground.
Katy Posted 14 November 2008 Posted 14 November 2008 Probably bad, teams generally (apart from Leicester) seem to get a new lease of life when they part with a manager. We need to be on our game tomorrow if we want owt from this.
Munzie Posted 14 November 2008 Posted 14 November 2008 I think this is good news. Nothing like helping an outgoing manager on their way! Time to chalk up another scalp. C'mon Leicester
Corky Posted 14 November 2008 Posted 14 November 2008 Why does it always happen before we play that team who decide to sack their manager?
Ric Flair Posted 14 November 2008 Posted 14 November 2008 We beat Colchester after they sacked their manager, didn't we? Or did they get rid after we beat them?

Munzie Posted 14 November 2008 Posted 14 November 2008 He's gone... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...own/7728908.stm They might as well cancel the game and give us the three points.
Corky Posted 14 November 2008 Posted 14 November 2008 We beat Colchester after they sacked their manager, didn't we? Or did they get rid after we beat them? They sacked him before our game. They won the match before with Symons in charge.
dandannieldanok Posted 14 November 2008 Posted 14 November 2008 Good news IMO, they should be in complete disarray now. If this had been earlier in the week then maybe the caretaker(s) would have been able to galvanise the squad, but it seems a bit late to me to turn it around before tomorrow.
FilboFox Posted 14 November 2008 Posted 14 November 2008 Am I the only one who thinks this won't make a jot of difference... the backup staff won't have any time to make any changes to their tactics to really affect the match in a great way and the players probably won't care much that he's gone so they'll play the same way they always do... and therefore hopefully we'll get the 3 points with a 2-0 win.
maddog Posted 14 November 2008 Posted 14 November 2008 They are going to be in disary. Easy 3-0 win coming up
Guest Bilo Posted 14 November 2008 Posted 14 November 2008 Dumped out of FA Cup and JPT by Histon and Brighton respectively, manager leaves today and the visit of the table-topping side tomorrow. I can't imagine Swindon being in the right frame of mind for this. 2-0 City on my first visit to the County Ground!

I'm sure S****horpe and Oldham thought the same. With us getting rid of the manager i'm pretty confident of a point on sat due to him being one of the worst managers ever.

Good to see your confidence is high in opting for a draw at home So, all three points are beyond you then
sdb Posted 14 November 2008 Posted 14 November 2008 should be good news. if we really take them on they should crumble but if we give them time and space to find their feet then they could sense a change of fortune and really up their game.
STFC Posted 14 November 2008 Posted 14 November 2008 Good to see your confidence is high in opting for a draw at home So, all three points are beyond you then I wasn't going to be too cocky, it depends on the players if they looking to impress any would be managers watching we could get the three points but i'm not going to kid myself Leicester are (prob) the strongest team in the league but we do have a couple of gems in our team. Should be a good game anyway with a bit of feelgood factor, how are Leicester away this season?

Only lost once on our travels (League) this season, and that was at Brighton when we was 2-0 up at half time, and we should've easily seen the game out. (Also should've had a penalty that never was) We play better away from home, as we seem to have more freedom as the opposition don't stick 10 men behind the ball, we have less fans on the players backs too. which is a big help.

We've only lost once in the league on the road. In the race for the title you need to win your home games and draw away, although I would suggest that we'll be looking to take maximum points given what's happened to your manager and recent results. It's too soon for any of your backroom staff to have an impact on how your team plays. As for would be Manager's, good luck with your hunt. Enjoy the game but don't expect any points.
Thracian Posted 14 November 2008 Posted 14 November 2008 Lots of teams play better straight after they lose a manager and with some of the brain-dead no-hopers who seem to be fixtures on football's managerial gravy train you can understand why. I've little doubt that Swindon will be well enough organised and that their players will all want to make an impression on whoever comes next but whether that will somehow give them the ability to beat a now re-strengthened Leicester squad I'd doubt very much. Swindon's best hope is that Leicester beat themselves with either a part time performance or by forgetting that we play best when we keep the ball on the floor and when we pressure the opposition fast and in numbers.
mitchofox Posted 14 November 2008 Posted 14 November 2008 He's been sacked http://www.swindontownfc.co.uk/page/NewsDe...1454559,00.html
Raj Posted 14 November 2008 Posted 14 November 2008 We'll still piss on em,manager or no manager. We owe em one for the play off defeat. Southern twats!

Koke Posted 14 November 2008 Posted 14 November 2008 We'll be alright, I hope. New Manager Syndrome won't kick in before they actually get a new manager. What a time to sack him though - the day before a difficult game.
