Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 But this is exactly the impression Leicester fans give every other team . But City fans can't hate themselves can they?
ousefox Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 Great win for city lets make a good gap between us and the rest of the pack
lavrentis Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 Just got back. Enjoyed it very much so. First half we almost played them off the pitch, did well in possession. All hail Lord Dyer. Referee's and officials were shite, awful. Fans down the side of the ground were good and in the AMS stand, stood up all game with no stewards hassling me. S****horpe fans were very very quiet. Not good really. Getting out of the ground was a nightmare with 1 door, I wonder how it passed health and safety. Good match and top of the league. Blue army.
Bryn Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 Question for you.Did you win comfortably today? Did you dominate posession, have the better run of the green.? Are you happy taking your performance of late into the next say 5 games? We went away and beat the top of the league side. Now piss off.
jimmer Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 Brilliant result, great result, but I would like to point out one thing. There are 4 points seperating the top seven teams in the table. It is tight. Currently, we lead that bunch, and we should look to break away, but, should we slip up against Crewe, we may drop a few places because of how close it all is. I just hope that alot of our knee-jerk fans realise that and don't go all suicidal should it happen. The man that started this thread is one of them. PEARSON OUT
Hullfox Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 There is absolutely no way on this earth that S****horpe had two thirds of the possession, no way at all. As for the Andy King love in, I'm glad he scored because he was well off the pace today for the rest of the game.
jimmer Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 Been out all day and missed the match. WOW was my reaction when my old man txt the result through!!! Long may this continue.....Championship here we come! WELL DONE LADS :city:
Simi Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 As for the Andy King love in, I'm glad he scored because he was well off the pace today for the rest of the game. Just about to make that point myself. The goal saved his performance. I thought his passing was off-mark for the majority of the day and at key points in the game he wasn't to be seen. Berner seemed to do a lot of covering for King, incidentally I thought Berner had his best game in a Leicester shirt today. Got stuck in and his passing was simple and effective. DJ was offside a painful amount of times but he hassled well throughout the game and had a couple of chances. None of the front pairing were that effective today though. Hanging on to that lead will be a massive boost for us after what has happened in recent games, lets carry this form on right through the Christmas period.
Daggers Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 Scunthorpe perspective: S****horpe were defeated 2-1 by promotion rivals Leicester City in a tight and tense top of the table tussle at Glanford Park on Saturday afternoon.Lloyd Dyer gave the visiting side the lead after they started the better team. The Iron quickly came back into it, though, and Paul Hayes levelled in superb fashion on the half hour mark. United had more possession in the second period but the away side defended well and restricted S****horpe's chances. Andy King then struck home the winner with 10 minutes remaining as Nigel Adkins' side fell from top to third in the League One table. S****horpe welcomed Ian Morris and Marcus Williams into the side. Morris came in for the suspended Sam Togwell and lined up on the left-hand side of midfield, while Williams slotted in at left-back in place of Krystian Pearce. Grant McCann was also passed fit for the top of the table encounter with Nigel Pearson's men. Joe Murphy started the game in goal, while the back four consisted of Cliff Byrne, Izzy iriekpen, David Mirfin and Williams. The midfield lined up with Martyn Woolford on the right flank, Matt Sparrow and McCann in the centre, plus Morris on the left, while Hayes and Gary Hooper led the attack. Shooting towards the Doncaster Road end, the Iron attacked with purpose in the opening minute but Leicester were equal to everything thrown at them. The Foxes had the first real chance of the match four minutes in when Matt Fryatt found himself in space on the left hand side of the penalty area and sent in a low shot which Murphy got down well to sace. A minute later, they had a penalty shout turned down when Iriekpen slipped up and allowed Fryatt to race through. The former Walsall frontman went down under the challenge of Murphy but referee Fred Graham was giving nothing. S****horpe had a decent chance to go ahead 16 minutes in as Williams' low cross was controlled by Hayes, who turned to curl his strike just wide of Paul Henderson's bottom left-hand post. It was the Foxes who fired in the opening salvo six minutes later, however, as the Foxes capitalised on a poor kick out by Murphy and Dyer slotted in from just inside the area to give the visitors the lead. The hosts rallied and had a good spell of possession on 26 minutes after Leicester failed to clear a McCann free-kick. The midfielder then curled wide of goal as S****horpe seeked a way back into the match. Two minutes later, a superb move, in which Iriekpen - still in attack after a corner - neatly flicked the ball through to Hooper, who in turn played it for Hayes ended with the former Barnsley man's clipped effort being pushed out by Henderson. The classy Hayes fired home the equaliser in sublime fashion, though, as Hayes chested the ball after Sparrow's clipped pass and volleyed in off the post from the right-hand side of the area for his ninth strike of the campaign. More sensational football from the hosts resulted in Woolford volleying over the crossbar. Hayes and Hooper combined to terrific effect and the latter passed to the ex-York winger, who was in space on the right-hand side of the penalty area. The visitors had a chance on 42 minutes when Bruno Berner's low shot was blocked by Murphy and then cleared off the line by Williams. It was end to end stuff from both sides as they went in level at the break. The second half was a less frantic affair as the away team looked jaded from their all-action attacking exploits of the opening period and seemed content to sit back and hit United on the break. Although it was S****horpe were perhaps having the better of it, chances were scarce and the Foxes defended comfortably despite the Iron's pressure. The away team had the next real chance of the game, and they scored from it. However, Dudley Campbell's low powerful drive was ruled out for handball. Leicester made the first change of the match on 74 minutes as former S****horpe loanee Jack Hobbs - who received a good reception - replaced Marc Edworthy. Fryatt had a shot deflected wide for a corner five minutes later and then, from the ensuing set-piece, Aleksandar Tunchev powered a header across the face of goal but nobody got on the end of it as it drifted wide. On 81 minutes, the visitors went back ahead as King latched on to a throughball and struck his effort past Murphy. The Iron didn't give up, though, and stepped up their pressure with McCann driving just wide of Henderson's bottom-left hand post, after a good spell of S****horpe possession. It was one of his last actions of the game as United threw on Ben May in his place on 89 minutes to add an extra body in attack. United had all the possession during the three minutes of stoppage time, and had one last decent chance to level when Hobbs almost converted into his own goal after a scramble in the Leicester box. It simply wasn't to be for the Iron this Saturday as Leicester held on for all three points.
Hullfox Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 I thought Berner had his best game in a Leicester shirt today. Spot on Chedley.
Thracian Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 There is absolutely no way on this earth that S****horpe had two thirds of the possession, no way at all.As for the Andy King love in, I'm glad he scored because he was well off the pace today for the rest of the game. It wasn't the impression I got from the radio either but 64%-36% were the figures mentioned with a little while to go and we sounded on the rack for the last few minutes so I can't imagine it improved much. As for being glad "Kingy" scored, every journey starts with the first step, even if it was a bit faltering.
Guest Chocolate Teapot Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 Two years ago I said Andy King reminded me of Martin Peters going forward. What's surprised me is that it's not been so much in the air as on the ground that his marksmanship has been a threat. Times on his way through the ranks City would score a goal from a crowd of players and when the mellee cleared it was Kingy who was on the scoresheet. Matt Piper referred to his "known" technique and I couldn't agree more. He's a cool finisher and is prepared to take the responsibility for shooting. Today's strike sounded like another beauty from a guy who's aleady scored four of the most memorable goals I've seen from City in the last two seasons even if one was in a friendly. Today's was so vital. Back we go to the top despite a performance when we had little more than a third of possession. Next week there'll be clamour for the return of Howard but we beat the League leaders today and haven't had that sort of lift for a long time, however indifferent the performance. DJ played a part in the first goal, people should not forget that. But surely the big hero today was Kingy, the kid we didn't want to use last season. Pearson still frustrates me no end. But he's made no mistake in that department. And at last we've finished on the right right side of a dramatic finish. Oh here we fooking go, Martin Peters!
Daggers Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 That was the most bum-clenching radio listening I have experienced - was it like that at the ground?
Simi Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 That was the most bum-clenching radio listening I have experienced - was it like that at the ground? After what we've done lately in games when we've had a lead it wasn't easy. The vocal backing by the fans was loud and helped to carry us over the line. Tunchev never looked like losing a ball, nor did Morrison.
20mj08 Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 great day out great atmosphere good passing play at times and a few players were better than others but overall the lads battled and kept going till the 93rd min well done lads, top of the league. . . lets keep it that way
Thracian Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 Oh here we fooking go, Martin Peters! How you doing Abrasive? Wondered where you'd got to! D'you remember Martin Peters then? It's silly. I thought you were younger.
hewittinspain Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 Been out all day and missed the match. WOW was my reaction when my old man txt the result through!!!Long may this continue.....Championship here we come! WELL DONE LADS :city: Typical fickle fan. I imagine you slating Leicester when they lose and draw a game too. Unfortunately we have Leeds fans like this too and I have never given the impression that we will definately go up.Those that wish that always have egg on their faces. Forest fans will have been the same 2 years ago when they were a whopping 7 points clear at the top at this stage. I bet they thought it was all over at this stage. http://www.statto.com/football/stats/engla...able/2006-11-04 Time to start celebrating is bout April time when your team is clear. Until then you don't want to be like them sad Forest fans this time 2 years ago do you Jimmer!!

I still think Morrison is gonna be a big player for us, I saw a lot of potential in him when I watched him. I hear he's had a shaky season though.
Simi Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 I still think Morrison is gonna be a big player for us, I saw a lot of potential in him when I watched him. I hear he's had a shaky season though. Seems to have worked on his game during his time out of the team, looks a lot more assured at centre half now. He was shifted to right back when Hobbs came on. Still think he needs to think about his passing, too much of it going long.
Hullfox Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 As for being glad "Kingy" scored, every journey starts with the first step, even if it was a bit faltering. Thrach, for my money, Andy King has shown glimpses this season of what he is capable of, particularly since the introduction of Bruno into the midfield. Today was a minor step backwards but he will have off games, everyone will. It's important that he learns from it and I'm sure he will. As for Martin Peters, I'll meet you half way. Today he was more Andy Peters.

You obviouslt thibk were the biggest threat this season.
Joe. Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 Obviously delighted with the result, a real boost for us today to go back to the top. King's goal was very nicely done; it seems he's got a nice little habit of popping up with goals here and there. It's already been said, but apart from that he was pretty much anonymous all game so it's good for him that he managed to produce something on the day for us. Alongside him Oakley and Berner ruled all over the pitch, Berner particularly defensively was hugely impressive today. Great result, way too tense at the end though.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 Really enjoyed today. S****horpe looked a quality side going forward in patches but we restricted them to very, very little in the way of chances. Tunchev was extraordinary again, he really is our ace in the pack making what is otherwise a fair-to-middling defence into the best in the league. He wins everything and inspires confidence in the whole team. Morrison stepped it up today as well. I wouldn't be that fussed if Mattock was dropped. He continually looks the weak link in the back four and we don't need his overlapping when we have Dyer because Dyer is most effective tucking in and running onto through balls from the middle and right side of the pitch. That's just my opinion though. Thought Fryatt had a quietly decent game today, doing the dirty things like competing with tall centre-backs for balls in the air and giving us something to attack from. He worries defences with his movement and stretches them for the benefit of Dyer on so many occasions, particularly away from home. Excellent end-to-end game, extremely competitive and probably my favourite game of the season so far. Superb winning goal.
Daggers Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 As for Martin Peters, I'll meet you half way. Today he was more Andy Peters.
