Nod.E Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 Nod.E and maddog is like the Muppet Babies version of me and poynton blue. Muppet babies? Harsh. That said, I know I play Daggers.
Head Honcho Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 Three more points without Kissa in the side How long's he out for this time?
Sods Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 I picked up my tickets today at the ticket office in Scunny. Im wanting to have a ticket behind the goal and I get a ticket in the side stand. Im thinking shit! But my word I don't think Ive had that much of a laugh in away game in ages, absouloutely loved. Everyone standing, most jumpin, banter with there lot ending in the chaos of one exit at the end. Loved it was stood near some quality people. The game well, first half was end to end. We were taking the game to them going out for the win, quality possesion. We had the better chances in the first and should of got more goals. Linesman was flag happy, problem was DJ was offside most of the time but when he was onside which looked close to being offside the linesman took as if he was offside again. Second half was very even and very different, but we managed and coped with the game. And Andy King took his goal very well as did Dyer. Thought Matty Fryatt did very well today as usually he is doing a very different job with Howard and he looked so dangerous. Bruno Berner was class, going forward and joining the back four when needed. I loved his kiss of the badge at the end. Well done Pearson, especially noticing that we have failed to keep hold of leads and today he put another midfielder on at the right time. So fair play buddy.
lildave3 Posted 23 November 2008 Posted 23 November 2008 Oh yeah, I ended up getting in the main stand despite having a ticket for the side stand.
potter3 Posted 23 November 2008 Posted 23 November 2008 None of the fans near the away end sang at all. Couldn't hear the lot on the terrace. Except when they equalised "Irons, Irons, Irons"
colbo68 Posted 23 November 2008 Posted 23 November 2008 what a win, thanks to andy king!!! Come on!!!We are top of the league i say we are top of the league!! 2 home games in a row next hopefully increase our lead at the top. Dont change this winning team, give DJ the start against Crewe. In my opinion we won that game for the following reasons: * we never gave up - there was a passion to win in that side * certain players had great games - Tunchev was class, Berner was very mobile, Lloyd and King took their goals beautifully * our fans were fantastic - great turnout on a freezing cold afternoon and we never stopped singing - their lot were soooo quiet * the gameplan - although DJ didnt have the best of games (and was caught offside far too often), the team attacked with far more pace and mobility without big Steve in it - I reiterate that we look a more dangerous side going forward when we use pace and for this reason I would drop Howard Yesterdays game really was a corker - great atmosphere, a good win and a shitty old ground that made me think back to the eighties. I came home thinking that WAS worth the money

I came home thinking that WAS worth the money I've been thinking that for a while. Yesterday in the first-half reminded me of the second-half performance at Hartlepool in the JPT, dangerous quick runners and numbers breaking from midfield constantly. And that was the last time Campbell got some decent game time. He is not a good footballer by any stretch of the imagination but defences are shit-scared of his pace and it makes everyone else more effective. If he could only stay onside more and improve his concentration (one or two touches in the second half yesterday were appalling), I'd definitely pick him above Howard.

Surely though with the pace that we have on the wings, we should have the best of both worlds. A lot of Howard's flick ons have been wasted because we have not latched on to them. I'm in favour of mixing our forward line up to suit rather than picking one over the other regardless.
Thracian Posted 23 November 2008 Posted 23 November 2008 Nice to read a couple of posts talking some sense about DJ. The bloke is an unpolished gem. DJ is the sort of impish player who is a nightmare to plan for. Sometimes he doesn't get his head up, sometimes his control lets him down, there are those endless offsides, but he is always on the move, always probing the edge of the back line, always threatening and always so elusive. More than that he is so suited to complimenting the sort of attackers we have in that he can maintain the momentum of attacks. If Howard comes off the defence he can set up goals and make a deft pass - but he's not always quick enough to turn and get into the box. With DJ he can help a move and has the pace and energy to get into the box to finish it. But the bloke needs games and he needs to stay fit. Having him back as an option can only help our cause.

A lot of Howard's flick ons have been wasted because we have not latched on to them. I'm in favour of mixing our forward line up to suit rather than picking one over the other regardless. I think route one is a lot riskier in terms of retaining possession. Howard will win flick-ons but the chances of them landing with one of our players in a way that we can retain possession and build an attack is quite small. I think one of our two main attacking strengths is the ability of Oakley and King to pick a pass, and it detracts from that sometimes when Howard plays. The second is the ball over the top for Fryatt and Dyer. Add Campbell to that equation, as I say, if he can bloody stay onside and we do look more dangerous when he plays. I agree though - you're right about mixing it up, it's great to have the options. Personally I just prefer the way we play when Howard isn't in the team - less desperate long balls and less free kicks (both for and against, before the game yesterday Howard was both the most-fouled player in the league and the biggest foul offender too) which we don't seem to make much of anyway - I'd prefer to keep the game flowing. Either way, nice problem to have - and I'd only play Campbell if he improved on yesterday's performance anyway.

Some of you are talking about him like we picked him up at a fire sale we paid good cash for him ffs he should be playing a lot better then he is so please spare me the unpolished gem analogy.
Ultra Posted 23 November 2008 Posted 23 November 2008 The first-half performance was as good as I've seen this season - including the Cheltenham game. Fryatt and Campbell linked up well (despite the frequent offsides) and were well backed up by Oakley, Berner and Dyer. Only their goalkeeper kept them in the game before the break. Afterwards we sat too deep and let the home midfield back into the game. Tunchev and Morrison didn't allow too many chances for them though. Then came King's winner, a goal as welcome as it was unexpected. Despite a frantic finale, which included Hobbs being unceremoniously hoofed into the away fans (the thug who did it wasn't even spoken to.. ) we hung on for a crucial, morale-boosting victory, which takes us to top spot for the FOURTH time this season. With two home games to follow, the first being against rock-bottom and managerless Crewe, we now have another chance to put daylight between us and the chasing pack. Let's hope that this time, the team is strong enough to take it.
lavrentis Posted 23 November 2008 Posted 23 November 2008 credit to all in the side stand today, looked fantastic all stood and bouncing. Its amazing what a roof can make to the atmosphere and most of us standing again, excellant. Great day and a fooking MASSIVE win. I was right on the edge in the side stand standing all game - anyone else in the side stand standing from here?

Compared to Swindon, we were much better at holding a higher line. Lo and behold we hung on.

They didn't create any clear-cut chances though, our defence was solid and held a tight line.
Tilley Posted 23 November 2008 Posted 23 November 2008 Nige loved the, "There's only one Nigel Pearson.." at the end.
Simi Posted 23 November 2008 Posted 23 November 2008 Nige loved the,"There's only one Nigel Pearson.." at the end. I love starting that at the end of a win when he comes over. He does love it.
Corky Posted 23 November 2008 Posted 23 November 2008 I love starting that at the end of a win when he comes over. He does love it. Came over to the fans before the match. Chatted freely, signed autographs and had pictures taken with fans. Top bloke.
Tilley Posted 23 November 2008 Posted 23 November 2008 Came over to the fans before the match. Chatted freely, signed autographs and had pictures taken with fans. Top bloke. Could have got in on this action if, 1. We weren't held up in Derby for 20 mins, 2. This made me miss my train to S****horpe I was supposed to get, 3. We weren't held up in Doncaster for half an hour. Trains
hewittinspain Posted 23 November 2008 Posted 23 November 2008 Have you noticed that the Leeds fan hasn't posted in a while? He's been out done, out witted and he's a little concerned. Or are you trying to gloat cos you are a massive 3 points ahead of us with only 87 left to play for? Yup Im as concerned as hell!!

hewittinspain Posted 23 November 2008 Posted 23 November 2008 Im sure you said we wouldn't beat Scunny We are top of the League say we are top of the League (8) We all hate Leeds Sc*m(8) I never doubted you beating Scunny ever. I predicted a draw though. Did you get them 'top of the league' songs from Forest in 06 when they were 7 points clear at this stage? I think they passed them on to S****hrope in May
Anish Posted 23 November 2008 Posted 23 November 2008 Somebody should ban this Leeds fool. Bugger off to your own forum, we don't care about your insignificant win over Scun thorpe on day one. Back on thread, fantastic result. I would've loved to have gone but for a prior commitment. Well played to the team and management - I'm sure most of us didn't expect victory in the battle of the top 2 but to win was a great tonic. Let's just hope we carry this on to the next few games and build a winning streak.
