Lloyd Dyer

I agree with that, but the problem we had last night was that by not having Howard in the box, there was little point crossing it early for the likes of Fryatt or Campbell, unless it's to feet or in that area between defender and goalkeeper. By the time we had posession in and around the box, Crewe had got nine back unless we counter attacked.

I think with playing DJ up front, it was important to try and put balls in front of them as we had no-one who could really play with back to goal, holding the ball up. Granted, with DJ and Fryatt, there is not a lot of height, but if the ball was crossed early enough between defender and keeper, the discomfort of the defence would make up for it.

Crewe clearly had a plan, sticking their nine men behind the ball, but we did still create opportunities for the early ball, we just didn't take them, instead passing the ball back to Mattock, Berner or King.

Can't argue about Howard's heading so far in terms of goal attempts, but by crossing the ball in to him, he causes problems in terms of upsetting defenders and acting as a foil to others in and round him; something Fryatt and Campbell obviously fail to do due to their size.

To be fair, I hadn't thought of that. Spot on. Some of Fryatt's goals have definitely come from this sort o' shit this season.

Lloyd, get firing them in!

Im shocked at how well the Dons are doing.

I had them down as bottom half to relegation battlers, they were poor against us early in the season.

Yet now they seem to just win, and win comfortably every week unlike us. and always seem to score 3 goals+

Di matteo may be snapped up like Ince was by a Prem club if he carries on like this.

Paul Ince has bitten off more than he can chew.

He did a great job at Macclesfield and a great job at MK Dons, but the premiership has come a bit too early for him, Blackburn are normally a top ten side, now they're one place from bottom.

Imagine if MK Dons still had Lloyd Dyer with his 8 goals so far. They would be cruising big time.

Best free transfer in ages.

Haven't had a winger like him for years. Too many years. Pace, power, dangerous and usually so calm in front of goal.

Fabulous signing.

It's times like these that I like to bring up Mablo's post in the "Lloyd Dyer signs" thread

........Lloyd Dyer........Bollocks.
Should think Luton weren't too happy to see Bell go even though they really didn't have a choice.

Oakley, remember Derby fans weren't too happy about that.

Remember most Birmingham fans were telling us how shit hot DJ Campbell was going to be for us.

I'll be suprised if he's anything more than average.

 Hello fellow Foxes fans and foxestalk folk. First post here, so please don't go for the jugular just yet! :sweating:

Agree with the comments about Lloyd Dyer's contributions to the season so far(although his crossing leaves alot to be desired), but eight goals so far is fine by me. Kareem is right in his post when he says glad that Dyer had scored the eight for us and not the MK Dons; they really seem to have some momentum at the moment, making our 2-0 win at the opening of the season a great result.

Would love to finally see all our wingers play with confidence and the assurance to hit the line and whip in a telling cross for the strikers(and for one of the strikers to actually get a header into the corners and not against the keeper or over the bar!)

Still, long way to go yet, trying to stay positive and hope we can open up a gap at the top and get out of this league asap.

Someone talking sense with their first post?! Get outta here.... I completely agree though.

i am surprised about his seeming lack of quality crossing, last year he always used to cut inside and send pinpoint crosses in when required

we had a poor and inconsistant start to the season, we had many players with injuries and we had only had a very rushed and generally poor pre season, di matteo had time to organise one game, the other two were already planned, a few additions have been made to our squad since then and the same match now i reckon we could get something out of it

almost every team we played last season played negatively in a 4 - 5 - 1 while disrupting the play and hoofing the ball every time they got it, hereford are the first side to come this season and play like that, last season we struggled to break this formation down and in january we had a run of 3 home losses where we lost 1 - 0 to the oppositions only chance of the match, this season we seem to be much more able to perform against this formation aswell as teams who come and attack us, we didn't play well last night and won 3 - 0 against a team that was extremely comfortable in the same league as we were in last year and were arguably the best team we played on balance of home and away performances.

and also lloyd dyer left after paul ince, his contract ran out about a week after ince left

i have full confidence in ince to turn it around at blackburn (although i feel ray mathias will be the main guidance) ray mathias is a quality coach

I'm afraid I don't, can see him gone by the new year.

I find it amazing that (after the season upon season's worth of shit we have had running the wings recently) anyone can have a pop at our current crop.

Stop wishing for what you don't have and start making the best use of what you do!

Our 'wingers' are typical of the modern breed, ie driving to the byeline and getting crosses into the box is not their game. Like most wide men these days, they are at their best when they start in wide positions, cut inside and threaten the box. This is the modern way, from Ronaldo, SWP, Lennon, Walcott etc down.

The crazy thing is, we have 2 (possibly 3 or even 4 if you include Adams and Porter) players who are perfect for this role. Dyer is tearing up the left side and Gradel did it from both flanks last season. Even crazier, earlier this season Gradel was under instruction to stay wide right, was largely ineffective and uninvolved and has been dropped!

These players are crying out to be deployed in a fluid 4-3-3 or 4-3-2-1 Xmas tree (it is that time of the year) setup but we all seem to be fascinated with this 'wingers getting in crosses to the big man' that is, as the children say, 'soooo last century'!

Play the ball into feet and get our quick players running at lumbering Div 3 defenders, Dyer is showing the way, FFS take the hint!

Well why on earth didn't Ince try and get him to sign a new contract before then, that was more than a year's deal? Ince surely didn't know he was nailed on to be leaving in his final few months as manager. Dyer should have been tied up to a new deal well before Ince went.

Absolutely. I was about to say something similar.

Dyer will not drive down the by-line and cross the ball into the box. That's not his game. He's more in the mould of Ronaldo, Lennon, SWP etc. running at people with pace and into the box. That's where he's at his best and deadliest.

I've always felt we needed to score at least 75 goals per season to have a chance of promotion and, after 18 League games, Dyer has scored 7 (Eight overall).

That's virtually one goal every 2.5 games with five more games to go in the first half of the season and has done so much to keep us almost bang on schedule goals wise.

On that basis there's every reason to expect that he might get 16 goals for the season.

Wingers who are that prolific are prize assets however good or bad their crosses.

How odd, he reminds me of a young lamb gambolling in a fresh spring meadow.

Bernie said those exact same words to me on Saturday. How odd :D
