Father Ted Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 Who have we got as cover in central midfield then? Pearson seems reluctant to bother with Kish and Levi is off the radar even if he was ever on it as a central midfielder.Berner still doesn't look like a natural central midfielder to me either. Completely the right sort of signing I think. I agree, Berner doesn't look like a natural centre-midfielder but every game he gets better and better. He allows King to get forward and look at the result - a late winner against s****horpe which could be a very important 3 points come the end of the season. Aswell as Berner, obviously there's King but I would love to see Adams in there and even Dyer but then again that is probably going a bit too far... I definitely get your point and after thinking about it will agree with you
Daggers Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 We'll have to see how Davies gets on if he gets a chance. The key for me is that we'd be a bit ****ed in central midfield if Berner got injured on Saturday and it'd be stupid to be in that position with our resources. May as well bring someone in if we can. If that is the case then why didn't we bring in someone who can stand up to tackles? Davies has played one game this season as sub and missed almost the entire 07/08 season through non-stop injuries - hardly seems a solid stop-gap regardless of his Littleboys International games with Stearman and Mattock two seasons ago. I truly believe Adams offers something through the middle (there again I reckon that about Porter too )...I remain highly sceptical about this.
Big Al Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 Just speaking to one of my mates who is a wolves fan said that he is a decent attack minded midfielder and likes to support the strikers were ever possible and creates chances outta nothing witch IMO we could do with especialy after tuesday night second half {inperticular} are hesitancy around the 18 yard box. I think davies and king in the middle of the park could prove exciting hopefully he will do well and maybe in january we'll extend the loan or try to buy him
Dan Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 It is a myth that I don't like tough tackling midfielders. In my days as a semi-pro manager my central midfielder was a hod-carrier called Neil Stewart who was toughness personified. He could also play a bit. Oakley is clearly injured and, at 20, Davies is likely to have the engine to hopefully fill the gap. Pearson deserves credit for acting quickly and for making sure that our squad retains sufficient options. It also helps that he's worked with the player and knows his qualities. Presumably they include being able to pass and think. Davies' arrival should keep all our central midfielders on their toes. It will also enable Berner to be used in other places if needs be. I can remember that talk about lack of strength in Midfield, what I was saying is not that we have no strength in midfield, whereas other teams do, and beat us in midfield. This is probably the ideal signing to be fair, exactly what we've been missing for years.
Tilley Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 Who? Think we needed a striker in all honesty.
goald Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 Hey, Exciting news that you've signed our Mark Davies but you don't know much about him, let me fill you in! Wolves fans have known about Davies sinc he was about 15. He was touted to us as the most talented player to come through the club since Robbie Keane and so we had great expectations. So great that about 10k people went to Molineux to see Davies captain England Under 17s before he'd ever played for the 1st team. When he finally made his debut he looked the part. He's competitive and fiery but also very very skillful. He can play AM or LM and likes to take players on and create chances. However since Mick joined Davies has hardly had a sniff. He's been injured a lot but there's aso been rumours about a poor attitude and I wouldnt be surprised if Mick didnt take a shine to him and so stop playing him. Its been crying out for him to go on loan somewhere and get some first team action under his belt. If i'd have been asked 2 years ago where i'd see Davies now the answer would be either a fixture in the Wolves team or possibly even higher. He's obviousy very gifted and i hope he performs to his potential for you. He really does have the ability to walk through defences. Apparently in pre-season though he was playing the holding role when he did play, so he' obviously been developing that side of his game as well. Give him time and give him the ball and you should see a top player. Not sure if we'll let you keep him as we could do with some cover on the left side of our midfield and Davies could do a job for us at the moment once he's totally fit. Btw - Whats this about us being interested in Fryatt? Its not a rumour in Wolves at all at the moment. Oh, and thanks for Stearman. What a rock he is at centre back!! Good luck this season. Always beleive in GOALD!

Daggers Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 "Stearman will never make a centre half," was the verdict on here when a couple of us mentioned it! Besides we had Kisnobo and McAuley!!! I think you were touting Heskey not Sticks!
Thracian Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 I think you were touting Heskey not Sticks! I touted Heskey too. Stears was used as a centre-half for the Reserves early last season and looked assured in the role. I rather think DavieG liked him there too but he'd have to confirm that.
goald Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 "Stearman will never make a centre half," was the verdict on here when a couple of us mentioned it! Besides we had Kisnobo and McAuley!!! Well after a bit of a shakey start he's come good. He's strong, quick, good in the air, can play the ball out of defence and can run the ball forward to. Two fast, ball playing defenders like Stearman and Mancienne have had a noticeable impact on our ability to attack from all angles. It makes a difference when there is not one player in the team who you doesn't mind having the ball at their feet. I was surpised when we signed Stearman that Leicester fans didnt rate him, now he's playing for us I'm totally shocked!! Anyway, don't want to get accused of taing this off topic - hope you see the best of Davies, hope you get promoted, and i hope we don't have to play you next season!!
davieG Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 I touted Heskey too. Stears was used as a centre-half for the Reserves early last season and looked assured in the role. I rather think DavieG liked him there too but he'd have to confirm that. Tis true but so many said he wasn't strong enough which as I said at the time was rubbish, it's not your build that matters, when it comes to strength but how you use your body. He was also criticised for hoofing but it was a team culture thing, if people had cast their minds back to when he first got in the 1st team he was passing the ball on a regular basis. From his play it was also easy to see that he was a 'brave' player getting in where it hurts. It's our loss their gain - what price Stearman & Tunchev as our CB pairing. Oh well wasn't meant to be.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 This is surely just cover? No more, no less. Give him a few minutes on Saturday and see how he does.
Tevez Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 I was thinking Kevin but I knew that was too good to be true, then Craig from Oldham.. but Mark... Who?
lavrentis Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 I was thinking Kevin but I knew that was too good to be true, then Craig from Oldham.. but Mark... Who? Exactly the same as me

I'm not quite sure what we are going to get in the space of just a month (emergency cover or plans to re-sign if he comes good)

I'm not quite sure what we are going to get in the space of just a month (emergency cover or plans to re-sign if he comes good) It'll nearly be January by the time the loan deal ends. We could re sign him then, possibly for keeps if, as the Wolves fan has eluded to, McCarthy doesn't rate him.
Bert Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 I'll say it again. This signing is purely for cover.
Munzie Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 I'll say it again. This signing is purely for cover. What makes you so sure? Pearson's begining to tinker with midfield having done the same with our defence. Reading the OS, he seems very happy with this capture.
carterfox90 Posted 28 November 2008 Posted 28 November 2008 he must be here for cover for oakley must be badly injured just as he was starting to play well davies might just be what we need mind you berner has been doing a great job imo
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 28 November 2008 Posted 28 November 2008 Tough tackling midfielder apparently, Thracian won't be happy Your avatar Potter - that the seatle defence? Because they were poo yesterday against the CowBoys!

DB11 Posted 28 November 2008 Posted 28 November 2008 He's ace on Football Manager (Obviously not if you were managing Man Utd but still...)
