I'd love to know how you get your (soon to be gone) mullet looking so smooth and silky.

It is a myth that I don't like tough tackling midfielders. In my days as a semi-pro manager my central midfielder was a hod-carrier called Neil Stewart who was toughness personified. He could also play a bit.

Oakley is clearly injured and, at 20, Davies is likely to have the engine to hopefully fill the gap. Pearson deserves credit for acting quickly and for making sure that our squad retains sufficient options.

It also helps that he's worked with the player and knows his qualities. Presumably they include being able to pass and think.

Davies' arrival should keep all our central midfielders on their toes. It will also enable Berner to be used in other places if needs be.

Where was you a semi-pro Manager Thracian.

Was your eye for a player back then better than it is now?...... Well it cant be worse!!

How is Levi Porter getting on? Maybe you could get back in the game and sign him, get the fat waste of space of our wage bill!!

I don't have too much to add to what Goald has already written but can tell you he is definitely not a defensive midfielder. I also think his claim that he's any good at LM is a bit spurious too.

What he is though is a very good player IF you can get him properly match fit and give him a run in the side. Do that and he'll be your best midfielder. If he's the player most Wolves fans and managers hope he can be he will easily stand out in League One.

His main breakthrough into the first team was under Hoddle (c**t). Got a good turn of pace if you let him run with the ball and is also a keen user of the give-and-go and 1-2. Likes to get around the edge of the box to either try and suck defenders in and beat them or get a quick shot away. If he gets a chance he is a good finisher too. Usually likes to place the ball rather than go for power.

He's only small but puts himself about, though not a great tackler from my recollection. He will help out when you haven't got the ball but I don't remember him tracking back much. Maybe he has improved since I last saw him.

I expect to see him play alongside Berner tomorrow what with Oakley being a big doubt for you, and it only being a cup game. I'm sure Pearson won't be too bothered if you go out. Being top of the league you don't want to get too many games behind the others with rearranged fixtures. Same for us really.

Good luck with the rest of the season. Though not too much ;) , I have £5 on you not winning the league with a Leicester STH I work with.

Levi Porter's absence from our squad has nothing to do with his not being good enough.

As for my managerial career it was a long time ago.

It's of no relevence now and I'm quite sure you will believe what you wish about my ability to judge players.

It's of no consequence to me.

The first isn't going to happen as he isn't here long enough and the second depends on how much you know about our current midfield...it's improved since last season.

You can see his cup goal against Accrington here:

(Plus a trademark Stearman run straight after, which I know you're all familiar with.)

If only Allen had signed Iwelhumo instead of Campbell things could have been so much different. :(

PS I always rated Stearman.

I'm assuming from the ratings thread that he had a fairly average debut?

Cleared a ball off the line to maintain a 3-2 win, if you judge players by their contribution then he was worth a passage to the third round...although he made piss all contribution for the rest of his time on the pitch.

Defensive midfielder type? What was wrong with Weslowski then? he did a lot of running around in that type of role, frothing at the mouth...

I'll do a "Thracian" and say that moment means we should overlook his non-descript performance overall (a la King at Scunthorpe  )

I'd add a caveat and say that I was considerably pissed and therefore have a worse view of the match than anyone at home watching the feed :D

I believe I started singing DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince at one point.

Apologies to anyone it offended in K block.

You're not sorry.

Or Ebanks-Blake instead of Barry Hayles

His major contribution was to make a clearance off the line.

He had about 25 minutes, and after having only trained with us for a day, he did ok.

Broken ankle?

Or Ebanks-Blake instead of Barry Hayles

Hayles was signed by Ollie.
