this is officially ridiculous now. it's snowed for about 30 hours straight and doesn't look anything like it's gonna stop.

Gritters throughout the county have been in action for the third night in a row as Leicestershire continues to be gripped by an icy blast.

Snow has been predicted to fall in the county today as temperatures were not expected to get above freezing.

One of the first major casualties of this week's wintry weather was the Loros Twilight Walk, which was due to take place tonight.

The fund-raising event for the Groby Road hospice, which was due to see 1,000 women completing a 10km walk around Leicester city centre, has been postponed until next month.

Event organiser Christian Weikert-Picker said: "I am very disappointed that we have had to postpone the Twilight Walk. The decision has been made as the safety of our 1,000 female participants and 90 volunteers has to take priority over fund-raising.

"I apologise to all the ladies who were looking forward to the event, but very much hope they will join us on our new date."

The walk, one of the charity'sicon1.png biggest annual fund-raisers, which was due to start from the King Power Stadium, has now been rescheduled for Saturday, April 13.

Last year, it generated more than £50,000 for Loros, which supports about 2,500 patients and their families each year.

Holy Cross Catholic Primary School, in Whitwick, was the only school to be closed yesterday due to the cold weather.

Youngsters were told to stay at home but staff remained on site to meet pupils returning from a residential trip.

The Mercury could not reach anyone at the school for a further explanation as to why it was closed.

Both the county council and city council's gritters were out last night.

A city council spokesman said: "We gritted last night from 8pm covering all of our primary routes. The drivers worked through until 6am.

"The same arrangements are in place for Sunday and into Monday.

"We have got about 1,200 tonnes of salt left, and six lorries to cover 180 miles of primary routes."

Leicester Mercury weatherman Dave Mutton predicted the icy blast will last well into next week.

He said: "I am afraid to say the very cold east wind is with us for a while. It is going to dominate the weather, giving us very, very cold conditions well into next week.

"The only comfort I can offer readers is that it looks as though we could be in for a hot May and a flaming June."

Those old enough to remember the legendary summer of '76 will also tell you that it snowed in June of that year.

The prospects for this summer are good.

Actually it was June 1975... Then the sun came out and stayed till September 1976 ................... Snowing in Northampton still has been since about 6pm last night

I love driving in the snow and the way the car wiggles if you push the accelerator too hard, it adds a bit of excitement to things. Until you join traffic and end up in a procession of cars stuck behind some bell end who not only refuses to get out of first, but doesn't even let go of the clutch so you have to keep your foot on yours too... But then you get back into the side roads and can actually venture into second, even 3rd if you're feeling a little naughty.

What's the snow like in Leicester? Any danger of the game being in doubt Friday? I'm only going on what it's like in Coalville which is horrific. 4ft drifts of snow on Forest Rd apparentley. My car and van aren't able to go anywhere, the snow is upto the top of my wheels.

It is actually really really bad here. Yet you go to shepshed and its only half as bad apparentley

We've had a light dusting in Loughborough over the last few days, but I work in Hugglescote and I noticed Friday it was like someone had drawn a line on the edge of Shepshed and started dropping all the snow from there. I normally drive down Forest Road to get to work, you think I'll be better off taking the motorway tomorrow?

Sponsor you for what? Being brave enough to sleep outside like a homeless person, as long as it's nice and warm and dry? Come off it mate. Imagine what the real homeless people must be thinking now. Pretty sure they can't just cancel being homeless because they don't fancy the weather. I know it's not up to you Ken old chap, but the organizers have got a lot of answering to do if you ask me. I'm pretty upset to be honest.

There was a warning to the general public not too travel because of the weather forecast as it was thought it too hazardous and it was thought the time would be better spent ensuring that those generally sleeping rough were safely inside and out of danger. The emergency services would be too busy elsewhere to attend the event if needed.

Just been down Forest Rd now, and it's ok. Must've had some ploughs out overnight. Where in Hugglescote do you work? I guess I'm borderline Hugglescote/Coalville and its bloody bad

Roberts Coaches, so pretty much Ellistown to be fair. Car Park is always shit in this weather, so I'm dreading tomorrow!

Yeh. How long have you worked there for? My old firm used to be based in their yard- MCS/Aardvark- Carpet Cleaners and Contract Cleaners. They had to move offices due to something very dodgy- any idea what? Personally I wouldn't fancy that hill just after China Chef in Hugglescote just before your entrance to the yard. I'd go down Beveridge Lane

I've only worked there for a year, so no idea why your old firm had to move out, sorry. That hill near China Chef is a nightmare in the snow, so I'll go Beveridge Lane. Cheers for the heads up.

Exactly. Definitely this.

Anywhere from fifteen to twenty two, mild breeze, only a few clouds, long evenings.

15 to 22 - that's woolie weather.

Been for a walk on the beach this morning in Tshirt and shorts. No idea what the temp is but I'm guessing a pleasant 24

Like **** is it, yesterdays weather was shirtless weather. Going shirtless in the snow is incredibly comfortable.

The best bottle chiller going. Just made a big snow tit on the back doorstep and put a bottle in the middle of it for 10 minutes.

Cold as snow now.

I had to laugh- I heard on RL at about 830am today that the road from Hugglescote to Ellistown was shut- What did you do?

Had no choice but to go past the road closed signs, lol no other way of getting to the yard! There was a snowdrift Ellistown side of the entrance, but easy enough to drive round. Stupidly I come through Shepshed and up Iveshead Road/AbbeyRoad towards King Ed college, this morning thinking it wouldn't be too bad, but there was at least 7 massive snowdrifts covering most of the road, was a total nightmare!

Never playing football in the snow again.

****ed my leg up, what's the muscle behind your knee called? I've strained it good and proper.

I think you men either the calf or hamstring but I am not a doctor or a sports therapist so I could be way off.

If you bend your knee(or just sit down in a chair) and have a feel around the back you will feel two "cables" one on the inside and one on the outside. These are your hamstring tendons. Could be one or both of these? Failing that it could be your plantaris or worst case your posterior cruciate ligament, which if you have seriously f****d is going to be very bad news indeed.

The two thick cables things on either side are fine, it's like directly in the middle where it aches. It's not like something's snapped, it's just strained. I had it before.

lol

I presume you mean tendons!

You've probably picked up a bit of a calf strain mate, that'd be my guess. Bit of Deep Heat and a hot bath is the cure.

My missis works in shepshed and grandparents live on iveshead rd so I've always gone that route. I went to fetch her at 730pm tonight, the road over the forest was shut, so I turned right heading towards the bulls head at the top of Greenhill rd. Just beyond the bulls head- road shut. Turned around and went through whitwick to get onto swannymote road- road shut. Ended up risking it past the monestary which took me to those crossroads half way over the forest (near where that red Audi tt had crashed last week) I still couldnt turn left, I had to go straight over down the lane, eventually turned left onto charley road emerging at that dodgy cross roads in that dip where theyve been doing alterations to the camber and putting down rumble strips. I had to go straight on past the windmill and onto loughborough rd. Nightmare. Surprise surprise on that dodgy crossroads where theyve put the rumble strips there was a pick up truck recovering another vehicle lol

I'd suggest M1 tomorrow, or loughborough road through to thringstone.
