What are you drinking right now?

Evian, as far as bottled water goes. Has to be either Evian or Highland Spring

I have those two stocked up at all times. Love a bit of fizzy Highland Spring. Haven't drank a glass of tap water for years. Do have tap water in the kettle though.

Would love a proper well, but that ain't gonna happen.

At the age of 29, I've discovered fruit smoothies. My word.

Well played, soon you'll be buying yourself a blender and a load of fruit, only to be disappointed with the quantity of juice obtained and then you'll whack the blender in the cupboard where it will remain for two years until you decide to try it again, only to find it doesn't work.

It's one of those rights of passage things

I've been through that rite of passage with a number of other kitchen gadgets, but have capitalised on Morrisons (*spit*) offer on INNOCENT Smoothies (less than half price) as the wife was craving them.

Get home with 8 of the bug gers and she's gone off them now. Turns out I like them though.

Did anyone ever agree on how much water we should be drinking a day? I've been told 8 pints but that does seem a lot of water to force myself to drink?

If I drink a lot of tea (diuretic), do I need even more water?

8 pints is a lot!! It might even be too much?

I was recently in hospital with kidney stones & was asked how much water I drink a day. I was told about 1.5 litres a day is the recommended amount. I do a very physical job & sweat more than most (even in the winter) & was told to maybe up it to about 2 or 3 litres a day......give the kidneys a little extra work.

3 litres is only about 5 pints.........so a couple of pints should be more than enough.

& congratulations!!

I reckon I drink a couple of pints of water a day at most. Really making an effort at the moment, but can't afford a gym membership and hate just running and work is a bit too eratic to commit to regular 5 a side fixtures.

Would press ups/sit ups and some small free weights at home have any real impact in terms of weight loss?

I have a beer belly rather than actually being fat, but its quite 'hard' fat if that makes sense.

probably not the most appropriate thread to say, but I think alcohol is the reason a lot of people carry extra lumber.

I was at my heaviest when I was a student & had little more than a liquid diet. I barely drink nowadays & have a physical job, but I am probably fitter at 41 than I was at 21. The chunkiest of my friends are the biggest drinkers. Their diet or the job they do seems to have little effect on their size.

I do drink a fair amount but have a few months back switched from beers to red wine/ gin and tonic, far fewer calories.

I'm not drinking week days at the moment.

I have a soup which is only 115 calories for lunch each day and a sensible dinner. I don't snack at all. I'm quite good luck that,

Fingers crossed I start to see results.

I think my metabolism really is just rubbish and I need to do some exercise!

I've never bothered with calorie counting. A marathon running friend & his wife (a professional nutritionist) have a load of horror stories about certain foods & saying what a load of bollocks all this 'low fat' 'healthy option' stuff is. It was all a bit too technical for me to understand.........saturates, polysaturates, monosaturates, trans fat & alike??? They were most outspoken about the damages of alcohol.

Everything in moderation & a little of what you fancy now & then.

'entertaining' the kids will give you all the exercise you need. You're probably better off enjoying yourself while you can!!

to get your metabolism burning like a furnace you really do need to snack, when i say snack i mean healthy, (cottage cheese on rye bread) just an example. The less often you eat the slower your metabolism becomes. Therefore eating 6 small meals a day will crave hunger and do you better than having 3 meals a day.

You don't need to exercise to burn fat (but obv good for your heart etc) so if u really dont want to physically exercise. Focus more on your diet

a lot of these kinds of food contain very low fat but very high carbohydrate in the form of sugars which ultimately turn into fat.

very naughty of a lot of companies, examples are the likes of special k cereal bars

So breakfast really is a key meal which shouldn't be skipped?

this is not true at all, and is one of the reasons why mainstream media should not promote silly diets. Meal timing has nothing to do with metabolism as all food that you eat will benefit from the thermodynamic process of digestion regardless of whether you eat 2 big meals a day or 6 small ones.

The only thing that is necessary to lose weight is by consuming less calories than you burn in a 24 hour period.

13 days off alcohol now, the longest I've gone since I was a teenager.

I drank a chocolate milkshake today for the first time in years, I forgot how nice it tasted.

couldn't exaggerate that enough, its basically putting coal in the fire to start up the furnace (metabolism) people who skip breakfast crave foods later on in the day (as in theory they are missing a meal) so not only is there metabolism lower they will eat food after 6 o clock, you go to bed and a lot of this food is converted to fat as this is when the body's metabolism is at its slowest.

Try and fit as much carbohydrates in first thing, this will give you a lot of energy for the rest of the day

and example: oat meal (not quick oats as these contain a lot of unnecessary sugar) topped with frozen fruit,( A grapefruit and a black coffee/green tea) for their fat burning properties.

1 egg, 3 egg whites on wholemeal toast is another example

if you think eating reguarly does not speed up metabolism then you are off your rocker.

Your arguing against a student studying sports science and a hobby for nutrition
