Proper sh*ts me up sometimes when it gets bad. Makes me think I'm about to have a heart attack.

I'm amazed at how often this thread dies out. I mean surely everyone doesn't just suddenly stop drinking for several weeks (or indeed get a life beyond posting in general chat on foxestalk)?

Sainsburys Taste the Difference Primitivo Del Salento. Rather delicious...

Was in the Whisky Shop in Lincoln at the weekend and bought a bottle of Benromach Peat Smoke. I can recommend it. I told the proprietor that I liked Islays and Speysides, so he suggested it as a peaty Speyside and gave me a taster. You don't get service like that at your local offy. Whilst I was in there a customer randomly grabbed a botle of whisky and said, "My friend likes whisky, will he like this?"

Which is a bit like asking, "My friend likes music, do you think he'll like this CD?"

I bought a bottle taliskers single malt at their distillery on the isle of sky after a tasting. That is really peaty and quite course,

Is the benromach similar ?

Bit smoother than Taliskers, which is a very much drink too.

In addition to the Benromach I have also bought some Jim Beam Honey, which seems pleasant enough though a little sickly and not as nice as the Jim Beam Red, and a bottle of Black Grouse for mixing - Famous Grouse and it's derivatives are the best of the blendeds, though J&B is very nice too. The Black Grouse is a peaty blend. Also Drambuie and lots of ginger wine.

I'd heard that you should put a touch of still water into malt to release the flavours so I tried that the other night. I think it did improve it a little. What does everybody else do?

Neat usually, maybe water into a strong cask strength.

Never ice - chilling a drink removes it's flavour, which is why you get so many nasty beers sold "ice cold" - to hid the fact they're crap!

Off to the Old Horse soon to meet my brother for Sunday lunch. No doubt some Festive Everards will touch my lips on its way through my body.

I was told not to buy Christmas presents as I am skint but I can gurantee my brother will pass on presents to me which will make me feel guilty. I shall nip into Tescos on the way though and get my brother a cheap bottle of plonk. Least I can do as he said he is paying for the lunch. Hopefully I will be able to save a little for Xmas. Be it pension credits from July or a job my income should be a little better.

I bought some own brand Sainsbury's bitter last week. Four cans for £1. 2.1%. Not that good really but better than nothing. Have to do some last minute shopping tomorrow lunch so may get some more although I am hoping I am bought some decent stuff as well.
