Guest Bilo Posted 10 January 2009 Posted 10 January 2009 Ronaldo may have won the Ballon D'Or,but he hasn't looked the same player as the Ronaldo who has swept aside the EPL for the past two seasons. Meanwhile Messi goes from strength to strength in a superb Barca side, scoring a hat-trick against Atletico recently. Does this mean that Messi has now overtaken Ronaldo? Thoughts please.
shen Posted 10 January 2009 Posted 10 January 2009 On current form I'd have Messi over the others any day...
StanSP Posted 10 January 2009 Posted 10 January 2009 At the moment, Aleksander Tunchev. Followed closely by Matty Fryatt. Or the other way round. Either way, its true!
GLC Posted 10 January 2009 Posted 10 January 2009 At the moment, Aleksander Tunchev.Followed closely by Matty Fryatt. Or the other way round. Either way, its true! Mark Davies After Chris Powell I'd say Messi. all 4 of the are in my team of the year
Jonezy Posted 11 January 2009 Posted 11 January 2009 Xavi should be up there too, but Messi is currently above everyone else.
Tilley Posted 11 January 2009 Posted 11 January 2009 We will never really know. Unless each player spent time in each of the leagues. But, I'd say Messi.
JakeShingler Posted 11 January 2009 Posted 11 January 2009 Look at the difference between the Leagues they play in the PL is way better so i belive if Messi would not be ad good ad he is in La Liguea and dont think he would score a hat-trick against a team like Villa and ManCity who are both around the same standards as Athletico.
Sparky Posted 11 January 2009 Posted 11 January 2009 Voted Ronaldo last time we debated but i think Messi probably holds the title now

We've done the Prem / La Liga debate to death. Atletico would slash Man City open the way they're going.
Darkzzz_ Posted 11 January 2009 Posted 11 January 2009 We've done the Prem / La Liga debate to death.Atletico would slash Man City open the way they're going. Agreed. I think people should spend time watching other leagues like a few of us do in here. La Liga is class. Some of the football is unreal at times. The premiership bores me to death most of the time. But that's just my opinion.

So Athletico are the same standard as Man City and Villa, yet he won't score a hat-trick against those English sides, but has against Athletico, yet they are the same standard? Doesn't make sense. They are not same standard by the way.

The general standard of La Liga is far higher than the EPL and Barcelona in particular have been immense this season, largely due to Messi who is in awesome form. Messi takes this one for me, purely because he can actually score against decent teams like Atletico.
Ultra Posted 16 January 2009 Posted 16 January 2009 No mention of Kaka? Or of his impending move to Manchester?
Uncle Albert Posted 16 January 2009 Posted 16 January 2009 Viva Ronaldoooooooo. Do not say that ever, ever again! World Player of the Year says it all though but each to their own. Messi is very, very good but I honestly think Ronaldo has that little bit more. Gerrard is the most complete player on the planet though.
