Edmund Posted 8 February 2009 Posted 8 February 2009 http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/news/16865...-off-games.html From the news of the world I know but surely this doesn't happen so blatantly.
Fosse Boy Posted 8 February 2009 Posted 8 February 2009 I saw this too. Disgraceful if it's true, but in this day and age it's also sadly unsurprising.
Koke Posted 8 February 2009 Posted 8 February 2009 To be fair, I've pulled some ridiculous sickies over the years. I mean, who the hell wants to work on New Year's day? If I was a footballer, I'd take New Year's day off as well.
Tilley Posted 8 February 2009 Posted 8 February 2009 Read this. As Kareem said, I've pulled a sicky or too. Who would want to play over Christmas? Rather be with my family. But at the end of the day, that is what they are paid thousands to do.
C-man Posted 8 February 2009 Posted 8 February 2009 I can't see it being true that players actually tell the ref they want a booking. I remember when Beckham purposely got booked against Wales because he knew he couldn't play in the next game so he thought he'd take his impending suspension then.

And he actually went to the press after the game and admitted it.
Father Ted Posted 8 February 2009 Posted 8 February 2009 Those are the players that are an absolute disgrace to the game. My guess would be at Drogba, the true stereotype of the cheating player nowadays.
DB11 Posted 8 February 2009 Posted 8 February 2009 http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/news/16865...-off-games.htmlFrom the news of the world I know but surely this doesn't happen so blatantly. Only at Christmas
Joe. Posted 8 February 2009 Posted 8 February 2009 Surprised people are shocked by this. Yeah it's always gone on, especially in big competitions like the Champions League when players tactically choose when to get suspended if there's a final coming up or something. It's only because it's come from a source like Steve Bennett that there's shock. NOTW love these things.
StanSP Posted 8 February 2009 Posted 8 February 2009 I love the bit where Steve goes: 'Never repeat this.' Haha now it's all over the world!!!
Uncle Albert Posted 8 February 2009 Posted 8 February 2009 I remember when Beckham purposely got booked against Wales because he knew he couldn't play in the next game so he thought he'd take his impending suspension then. Yea Beckham broke his rib against Wales and knew he would be out against that missfit team Azersomething, so he cleaned Ben Thatcher up. Smart guy. Going and spilling it in a post macth interview wasnt so smart. Im not surprised by this you always notice that alot more bookings get picked up across the Festive period. But I do think this interview has been exagerated abit especially from the NOTW.
Webbo Posted 8 February 2009 Posted 8 February 2009 If I was their manager I'd make the thieving bastards do double training on Xmas day.
Asha Posted 8 February 2009 Posted 8 February 2009 If I was their manager I'd make the thieving bastards do double training on Xmas day. Wouldn't that mean the manager would have to supervise training on xmas day? I wouldn't.
StanSP Posted 8 February 2009 Posted 8 February 2009 Wouldn't that mean the manager would have to supervise training on xmas day?I wouldn't. Get the assistant to do it or something...
Tilley Posted 8 February 2009 Posted 8 February 2009 Get the assistant to do it or something... What has he done wrong to supervise a double training session on Christmas day?
MPH Posted 9 February 2009 Posted 9 February 2009 Didnt Roy Keane somehow manage to get suspended for every boxing day game? this is nothing new..
Number 6 Posted 9 February 2009 Posted 9 February 2009 Some managers would probably still force players to attend the matches they cannot play in, thus stopping the problem. Wouldn't surprise me if players do do this though.
billyfox1 Posted 9 February 2009 Posted 9 February 2009 NOTW have pissed me off more than the players. Poor old Steve's been stiched right up there. And all he's done is tell the truth.
Lovejoy Posted 9 February 2009 Posted 9 February 2009 One NOTW story that might actually have some credibility. What is the world coming to ?
