FilboFox Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 I know this is rather old now but it still just astounds me how or even why David Moyes thinks that Everton can still get into the top 4 this year! Is he on something cause it's just utter insanity! They are currently 11 points behind Villa... granted they have a game in hand but if they win it they'll still be 8 point behind... and I can't see them catching them with such a large gap. Moyes seriously needs to wake up cause it's crazy of him to think that Everton will catch any of the top 4 now... I'd even doubt they'll catch Arsenal no matter how many 0-0 draws they get!
Hitesh Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 Never been a fan of Moyes, he is a moaner and a bad loser! Similar to Alex Ferguson. The guy is mad if they think they can get into the top 4!
Tevez Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 Good manager, certainly silenced alot of doubters in his reign at Everton.
purpleronnie Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 He's done an amazing job again for Everton, one of the best managers in the country.

lildave3 Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 Quality manager, done a fantastic job at Everton.
Anish Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 Top class manager - like O'Neill, he really deserves a chance with one of the big 4 but we all know that those jobs are now reserved for Jonny Foreigner
Koke Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 He paid £2m for Tim Cahill. Best 2 million quid Moyes will ever spend. He has certainly silenced a lot of critics in his time at Everton.
Uncle Albert Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 Why cant they catch the Top Four? Especially whilst Villa are in there then they have a sniff of catching them for the fourth spot, if they can get Jo scoring and play consistent then they have a great chance. Would prefer to see them in the Champions League than Aston Villa. David Moyes deserves a crack at the bigtime, bigtime meaning managing a bigger club than Everton. Hope he can lead them to some sort of success again in his reign.
dandannieldanok Posted 22 February 2009 Posted 22 February 2009 Agreed with most of the comments in here, after a tough start Moyes has proved that if chairmen just have a bit of patience then it can easily work out. I'd be surprised if they managed to get into the top four from the position they're in, but with Arsenal not scoring and Villa having to bounce back from a defeat, there is definitely a chance.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 22 February 2009 Posted 22 February 2009 He paid £2m for Tim Cahill. Best 2 million quid Moyes will ever spend. He has certainly silenced a lot of critics in his time at Everton. Wasn't it 1.5 mil any way i agree he is a quality manager with out him god knows where they would be now. Along with MON one of the best mangers in the prem getting the absolute best out of there squad on not the biggest of budgets
Flynny Posted 22 February 2009 Posted 22 February 2009 I've been saying Everton will push Arsenal into 6th for about the last fortnight - so it'd better happen now. If they get the win they should do today they'll only be 2 points off.
Thracian Posted 22 February 2009 Posted 22 February 2009 Moyes has worked wonders at Everton with sweet damn all by way of financial support compared to his close rivals. No manager is likely to snatch League titles and Champions League places off opponents who can spend more on one player than your own team can on an entire team. Benitez gets more plaudits than ever Moyes does and yet in three recent games between the two who would have known which was the most expensive side. As already stated elsewhere, MoN is the same - a bloke who can manage well with limited funds and whose players invariably turn up to do their shift. I'd seriously doubt that Everton have any chance of getting into the top four either this season or anytime soon without some serious financial input but I don't blame Moyes for having the ambition and for giving his players something to aim for.
FilboFox Posted 28 February 2009 Author Posted 28 February 2009 It's all well and good what he's done at Everton and I'm not denying he's done a bloody good job but the fact that he's even thinking about making the top 4 now is crazy! He's masses of points behind them... if Arsenal win their game in hand now they'll be 4 points behind them again and then ANOTHER 6 points behind Aston Villa! That's 10 points... Villa can lose three and still be in front of them... and then there is Arsenal who might turn it around... It's just crazy talk to say they have a realistic chance to make the top 4 now... and in response to the post before about what he should say... well just don't say anything... or say you are taking it one game at a time and hoping for the best... not firmly state that you think you can actually make the top 4 when you aren't even close or even closing the gap that much to be fair.

Arsenal have just drawn AGAIN, which means they're just 2 points clear of Everton and still have to play at Goodison. I think the injuries to Yakubu and Arteta will tell in the end, though. Sixth place is as much as Everton can hope for.
Flynny Posted 28 February 2009 Posted 28 February 2009 I'm still calling 5th. I'd love Arsenal to finish 6th, it'd shake them up enough to either make Arsene change his methods or resign, probably.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 28 February 2009 Posted 28 February 2009 Even if Everton did make it into fourth they'd get knocked out in the Champions League Qualifer! But seriously, put yourself as a fan of Everton - isn't that what you'd want to be hearing from your manager, otherwise you'd be acusing him of lack of ambition. And rather than Moyes and Mon jump ship for one of the big four I'd like to see them mingle with them a bit more and break the monopoly. With Manchester City also planning to get their it could make it very interesting indeed!
Nationwider Posted 28 February 2009 Posted 28 February 2009 Fair play to him. I'd love to wake up from a deep sleep some time in mid May and see that Everton and Villa have edged out X and Y from Champions League places. Won't happen (Everton, that is) but I hope he gets some proper financial backing at some stage as he's such a good manager. Pity Arteta's out for ages too.

Lovejoy Posted 2 March 2009 Posted 2 March 2009 Top class manager - like O'Neill, he really deserves a chance with one of the big 4 but we all know that those jobs are now reserved for Jonny Foreigner O'Neill already manages one of the top four .
hairy Posted 2 March 2009 Posted 2 March 2009 Top class manager - like O'Neill, he really deserves a chance with one of the big 4 but we all know that those jobs are now reserved for Jonny Foreigner and he is foreign (in terms of football) as is O'Neill
Alexikokopops Posted 2 March 2009 Posted 2 March 2009 Top class manager - like O'Neill, he really deserves a chance with one of the big 4 but we all know that those jobs are now reserved for Jonny Foreigner I agree! Anish Posted 2 March 2009 Posted 2 March 2009 and he is foreign (in terms of football) as is O'Neill I agree! David "English through and through" Moyes should get a crack a the big time instead of all those foreigners! Of course I know they're not English There's a difference between Northern Irish/Scottish (who are still British) and Spanish/French/Italian/Dutch etc. I'd bet a hefty sum that the next Liverpool/Man Yoo/Arsenal/Chelsea manager will not be British - that's what I meant by the term "Jonny Foreigner".
