Semi Finals at Wembley

Not sure if it's been mentioned on here but seriously what another farce!

Obviously it's because the FA needs to get the games in to pay for the damn lego set but Man United and Everton fans trecking down to London with Eastlands, Hillsborough and Villa park about an hour away. Madness.

So much for the privilege of playing there in the final.

Don't think Hillsborough is a great venue as it has restricted views but there are plenty of stadiums where it could be apart from Wembley.

Wembley has it until 2017 anyway, sadly. :(

Villa Park is the place they should be at. How many great semi finals have they had ? Arsenal utd - Portsmouth Liverpool.

Absolutely killed the novelty off.

This.

There was a big debate about it on talksport earlier basically Ian Wright was saying that teams are just looking at it now, as if yes weve got to the semi final ala Wembley even if we lose its been a good day out for the fans etc.

Wembley is known as the Holy Grail and should only ever have finals played their.

Cardiff and Twickenham would be decent or something similar. Both completely neutral bar the occurance of Welsh team hitting the semi's for another 30 years.

Or you just name the stadiums per the draw and make travelling easy for all concerned.

That seemed to work for decades, but the FA have got themselves into financial mess and need all the money they can get even at the expense of what's best for the fans, the clubs, tradition etc. Even the players don't really get anything from this as most of them have played at Wembley or better during their careers.

They even used to mess that up though by having two London teams playing in Manchester example.

Take the United v Everton semi - perfect for Eastlands or Anfield. Okay it's both their rivals grounds but travelling for both parties is cut down.

The probable Arsenal v Chelsea semi - say Spurs or West Ham.

Another piss take money-grabbing idea from the F.A. I think it's ridiculous personally and was glad to hear David Moyes speak up about it earlier. Takes the idea of getting through to the final to play at Wembley right out of tradition. Cocks.

Haven't they booked the Champions League final in 2010 (or whenever Wembley is due to host) at the same time as a play-off final as well?

No end to their stupidity.

Is the play-off final held on a Wednesday night now?

Anyway, semis at Wembley is farcical.

Twickenham is one of the venues they've submitted for the 2018 WC as well I think so it would have made sense to trial it out a couple of times.

Wembley is an impressive venue, I went to the cup final a couple of years ago between United and Chelsea, I was impressed but cannot imagine it having anything on the old one. You seem to be far away from everything, even the person next to you. For all the money that was spent, you can tell it wasn't built to be intimidating and made to be a fortress, which is what it should have been.

No, but Champs League final is on a Saturday now.

The worst thing is fans are forced to buy inflated semi-final tickets in order to be able to buy even more inflated tickets for a potential final. And add that to the travel cost and the ultra expensive food, drinks etc. inside Wembley and it's gonna cost an absolute fortune.

It's a complete rip-off.

I'd like to add that the Champs League final being moved to a Saturday is also wrong.

Something not right about it.

Really? I did not know that.

It's a shame that The FA can't see past their own pockets.

If these games were being played at a neutral venue, supporters wouldn't have to shell half as much as they're going to now.

I'm sure The FA's excuse is "All teams have done so well to get this far, that they all deserve to play at Wembley"

Really, the semi-finals shouldn't be at Wembley. It spoils it a bit for the side's who actually make the final/Wembley.

There are plenty of good ground like mentioned above but what about Stadium of Light as well!

One of the best things in getting to the final is saying that 'were going to Wembley!'.
