Corky Posted 28 March 2009 Posted 28 March 2009 We need him back soon. Hayles and Dickov just aren't up to it. Howard might not be perfect but he fits into a system and troubles defenders.
maddog Posted 28 March 2009 Posted 28 March 2009 Howard is such a slow, shit footballer. Yet without him we are totally fooking useless.
StanSP Posted 28 March 2009 Posted 28 March 2009 Howard is such a slow, shit footballer.Yet without him we are totally fooking useless. But he isn't known for his pace. He is known for his battling performances and ability to win balls in the air - something which no other striker in our squad can do.
Thracian Posted 28 March 2009 Posted 28 March 2009 Nobody was going to play any "football" in those conditions today. Pity you missed their second goal.
Ultra Posted 28 March 2009 Posted 28 March 2009 But he isn't known for his pace. He is known for his battling performances and ability to win balls in the air - something which no other striker in our squad can do. Yeah, just like he was producing so often this time last year... I hope he returns fully refreshed from his three-week break. He owes both his team-mates and us a goal against Carlisle.
Bert Posted 28 March 2009 Posted 28 March 2009 Well the past two games have proved that we missed Howard. You'd think with him not being available we'd be encouraged to pass a bit more. But no. With Howard in the team, when one of our players panic, we can lump it up to him, and he has a good chance of winning it. But without him, we just waste possession when we do this.
Alf Bentley Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 Quite simply we need an entire new strikeforce.NONE of our current strikers can save us from Championship relegation next season IMO. etc. Before saying anything else (and before partly agreeing with you), I think you should apologise to the world, the universe, and particularly Steve Howard for persistently maligning Leicester City's player of the season, the aforementioned Steve Howard, a man who's spent the season dominating opposing defences , distracting centre halves, combining beautifully with the midfield (he is the 5th midfielder!), providing superb flick-ons, not to mention sumptuous cross-field, down-line passes.. If you are a man, Mr. Maddog - and I believe you are - then you are big enough to apologise big time! That said, you are right, in part... Assuming we go up, we don't need an entire new strikeforce, but we do need a new attacking COMBINATION. Dickov and Hayles are well past their sell-by date at L1 level, never mind Championship. DJ is also a waste of time - couple of good games every 50...flog him if any other club is stupid enough. EITHER Fryatt or Howard could perform well in the Championship, but the two together? NO! NO! NO! Fryatt + fast, mobile goalscorer + decent midfield = top-half Championship Howard + fast, mobile goalscorer + decent midfield + top-half Championship Fryatt + Howard + decent midfield = grinding relegation escape Fryatt + Howard + Oakley (THE problem) = relegation!
teblin Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 Howard is such a slow, shit footballer.Yet without him we are totally fooking useless. Doesn't that tell you that your first statement is wrong?
maddog Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 Doesn't that tell you that your first statement is wrong? No thats the weird thing about it Hes a good target man but hes not a footballer. A professional footballer should be able to run fast with the ball keeping it under control, so far the only player i've seen do that this season is Mark Davies, and hes not even our player. Howard can't run, certainly can't run with the ball, and has less pace than Hayles and Dickov. If he plays in the Championship again week in week out with Fryatt like last season the best we can hope for is surviving relegation IMO.

No no no no no no no, you are living in cloud cuckoo land if you believe that.
maddog Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 No no no no no no no, you are living in cloud cuckoo land if you believe that. I could get on the pitch and run around very slowly, concede a lot of fouls, win a couple of headers, and chase the ball down a bit, so could you. Thats basically all Steve Howard does everygame. Yet all we do is hoofball so without him we look useless, and with him we look a little bit better than useless. Anyway ive criticised him much less recently and gave him 9 out of 10 for the Cheltenham game. Because TBH thats the first game ive walked away from where i felt he played really well and contributed most to the team
lcfcliam Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 many of my frends say i look like him so dey all call me steve howard but ill tell ya da truth.... STEVIE HOWARD IS A **** LEGEND WE MISS HIM SO MUCH SUPER STEVIE HOWARD!
Munzie Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 It will be interesting to see how the anti-Howard brigade react on his return, especially if we win. (I'm not talking about on here, more about those that sit near me in the Kop).

maddog Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 But when you're blinkered against someone you can't look at their good points. TBH im always looking for his positives all the time now, i just very rarely see loads of them. The main positive i have noticed being without Steve Howard we are useless so we clearly need him. So clearly he has a positive effect on the team, regardless of being very slow.

Jari Litmanen was the slowest player on the pitch in the Finland vs Wales game, and he was by far the best.
Stevosevic Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 Always loved him. Me too, never understood some of the stick he has received.
