Fox92 Posted 18 July 2009 Posted 18 July 2009 fryatt is a great great player, i want him at leicester.strikers have bad patches, like everybody else. we now know exactly how deadly he can be, personally im right behind him because with confidence this man is lethal. hes a leicester player so lets get behind him. END OF. Agreed. This last season in League 1, he finally had a manager with confidence in him and kept playing him. Martin Allen choose several strikers ahead of him which was a disgrace, and even when Megson/Holloway came he didn't really play that many games. He has been playing in a very, very poor side since his move from Walsall and I am also sure that (like this season) if we were top of the league and the team was confident and Fryatt himself was confident then he would bang in the goals needed. When you do think back, Fryatt has scored some great goals. Derby at home when he turned Leacock and Moore inside out springs too mind. I know it is an unrealistic comparison but Michael Owen was deadly at Liverpool like Fryatt was at Walsall. Owen moved to Real Madrid and although he scored goals there, he was most probably loosing confidence with Real Madrid buying and then choosing players over him like Robinho and Julio Bapista and although Matt Fryatt has scored some important goals for us in our time in the Coca-Cola Championship, he has never really had a manager that has had the faith and confidence in him like Nigel, and like Alex Ferguson has with Owen now he has joined Manchester United. Look, surely if Matty Fryatt is confident, always fit and we are doing well in the division, he can be a top championship striker because I cannot think of 10 strikers in that division that are better than him. Obviousley Martins if he stays at Newcastle as well as Alan Smith, Tudgay is most probably up there with McGoldrick, Alvez and Aliadiere will be awesome but then I cannot think of many average Championship teams like Sheffield United, Derby, Forest, Coventry etc that have good strikers because I don't rate strikers such as Billy Sharp and Rob Hulse etc. And although I may have said this, I still think we need two or more strikers because I am not 100% confident with Howard/Fryatt/Dickov/DJ Campbell as our recognized strikers. But who do we go for? We haven't got that much - sure we have more than some sides like Sheffield Wednesday - but without paying 4million+ we will not sign a striker that will score 20-30 goals required.
Kilworthfox Posted 18 July 2009 Posted 18 July 2009 I bet theres about 10 strikers better than him in the Championship. Obafemi Martins Andy Carroll Tuncay Mido Jerome Alliadiere Alfonso Alves Ismael Miller Roman Bednar Simon Cox Craig Beattie Shane Long Tudgay? Iain Hume Jon Parkin Ross McCormack Jay Bothroyd Rob Hulse? Luke Varney Robert Earnshaw Nathan Tyson Joe Garner Freddy Eastwood Ben Burgess Nicky Maynard? Danny Haynes? Freddie Sears Paolo Counago? Jon Stead Jonathon Walters Dexter Blackstock Patrick Agyemang Tamas Priskin Tommy Smith Nathan Ellington

Kilworthfox Posted 18 July 2009 Posted 18 July 2009 Well, I take my 'not many striker better than Fryatt back then' IMO he could make it into the top 30 I have named 34 decent or good strikers that are currently with a Championship team.
Webbo Posted 18 July 2009 Posted 18 July 2009 Jerome AlliadiereIsmael Miller Simon Cox Craig Beattie Iain Hume Rob Hulse? Luke Varney Nathan Tyson Joe Garner Freddie Sears Paolo Counago? Patrick Agyemang Fryatt will score more goals (fitness permitting) than any of the above.
Kilworthfox Posted 18 July 2009 Posted 18 July 2009 Fryatt will score more goals (fitness permitting) than any of the above. Never outscored Hume in the Championship before, but would make a nice change of pace I suppose. Also I disagree on Miller& Cox if they have good runs in WBA's side.
StanSP Posted 18 July 2009 Posted 18 July 2009 I heard Miller was injured for start of the season ? I heard Miller was injured for start of the season ?
Kilworthfox Posted 18 July 2009 Posted 18 July 2009 I heard Miller was injured for start of the season ?I heard Miller was injured for start of the season ? Does that him worse than Fryatt? Not that I am suggesting you are saying that
Mr Happy Posted 18 July 2009 Posted 18 July 2009 So by that logic he is better than Tunchev? The Sun knows nothing again! Firstly I'm more than happy for The Sun to insinuate that Fryatts our best player means there'll probly be less chance of interest in any of our 'better' players by the bigger clubs. Obafemi MartinsAndy Carroll Tuncay Mido Jerome Alliadiere Alfonso Alves Ismael Miller Roman Bednar Simon Cox Craig Beattie Shane Long Tudgay? Iain Hume Jon Parkin Ross McCormack Jay Bothroyd Rob Hulse? Luke Varney Robert Earnshaw Nathan Tyson Joe Garner Freddy Eastwood Ben Burgess Nicky Maynard? Danny Haynes? Freddie Sears Paolo Counago? Jon Stead Jonathon Walters Dexter Blackstock Patrick Agyemang Tamas Priskin Tommy Smith Nathan Ellington Secondly whilst Fryatt's a city player we should all be getting behind the lad, not knocking him down. Imagine if he was to read this thread the poor guy would soon think about leaving us after we're naming better strikers than him! Doesn't anybody ever give out second chances anymore??

Prove me wrong Matty you goal ace sun of a striker you, & you would have thought that he would have a bit more about him than to be effected by what so called supporters say on a meaningless fan message board.
lou Posted 18 July 2009 Posted 18 July 2009 Id be delighted if he went on to score as many goals as he did last season, obviously! To say that hes one of the top ten in this division though is frankly ridiculous. Im behind him 100% though that goes without saying. Im sure the season before last was just a blip
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 18 July 2009 Posted 18 July 2009 This season is Fryatt's biggest ever now. Last year the pressure was on to get us out the division with his goals, he said he could do it and he did. I have heard people giving Fryatt stick for being a poacher and never really scoring great goals, but I don't think there is anything wrong with that at all, Cottee was poacher and look how well he did for us. My only big criticism of him is his finishing when one on one with the keeper. I can recall 2/3 times in the last couple of years where he has just hit it straight to the keeper. I think he needs to work on this part of his game and I have never really rated him on penalties either, but that isn't a great concern. I have always seen him as a fairly clever player especially around the box, like when he scored vs MK away when he flicked it around the defender and placed it in the corner. He was also key in helping us stay up under Rob Kelly when he and Hume were up front, with Hume getting more praise for scoring more which I thought was unfair really. He was unlucky with injuries but now he has established a good strike partner willing to do the donkey work for him, and he can now have no exscuse for a bad season other than not being good enough. I have all faith in Fryatt and hope he can prove critics wrong and become a goal scorer in the Championship. And coming from Peterborough, I would much rather have him than Mackail-Smith any day of the week.

morris1234 Posted 19 July 2009 Posted 19 July 2009 i just hope for his sake more than ours, that fryatt scores 15+ goals this season! he deserves it for all the stick he has taken. i feel he has good ability and work rate to do well and now he has the service, coupled with pearsons arm around him, i think he could surprise a few people this year!
Maybes Posted 19 July 2009 Posted 19 July 2009 Matty Fryatt is LCFC's lovechild. Even when he was shit the crowd still loved him.
Mr Happy Posted 19 July 2009 Posted 19 July 2009 Because all the big clubs rely on the Sun when it comes to scouting players Of course, its such a reliable source
DB11 Posted 19 July 2009 Posted 19 July 2009 Matty Fryatt is LCFC's lovechild. Even when he was shit the crowd still loved him. Was that not more of Iain Hume?
Flynny Posted 19 July 2009 Posted 19 July 2009 Was that not more of Iain Hume? My favourite HUUUUUUUUUME was the one he got for conceding a throw-in once.
Ultra Posted 19 July 2009 Posted 19 July 2009 Was that not more of Iain Hume? Hume was never as poor as Fryatt. He also used to put the effort in, no matter how badly he played.
Fox92 Posted 20 July 2009 Posted 20 July 2009 Fryatt has always had a better footballing brain than Hume, we could all see that on a match day. And although I liked Hume, he was not scoring the goals that we needed. Sure he was in a very poor side, and sometimes found himself out of position on the right, but he still wasn't scoring enough goals and I didn't have the confidence in Hume to score more goals because he isn't that type of player. In Fryatt, I have the confidence. I have the confidence that he can go on and do what he has done in League 1. If you look back to when we were in the championship, Fryatt scored goals, but the goals were great. There is no doubt that he is the best finisher at the club and with the correct distribution, the correct attitude and the confidence to do so, he can become a top championship striker. Enough said about Hume, I don't like the man anymore.

flanimal Posted 20 July 2009 Posted 20 July 2009 Agree, Fryatt is the number one forward at the club, it'd be harsh not to support him after the 30+ goals he got last season. Season before last, everyone seemed pretty poor to be fair.
