Daggers Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 It really is a myth about our squad. In fact our squad is woefully small and extremely limited. Extremely limited? . . . . . . . .
Dan Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 It really is a myth about our squad. In fact our squad is woefully small and extremely limited. Our squad as named in ysterday's programme: Henderson (no longer under consideration). Edworthy (Not been heard of or used for weeks). Kisnorbo Gilbert Tunchev (out for the season and more) Clemence (long term casualty) Cleverley (returned to Man Utd injured) Oakley Howard DJ (on loan for the season) Dyer Fryatt Logan (on loan, never involved so far this season) Weso (on loan and likely to move) Morrison Adams (just returned from loan) N'Gotty (Playing out time. Only briefly involved) Psssh (ignored) Hayles (past it) Worley (on loan) Chambers (rarely in the 16) Gradel Mattock Andy King Hobbs Martin (injured and replaced) Dickov (unconvincing even in a bit part) O'Neill (involved briefly) Powell (all set to be a coach) Craig King (involved once) Berner (unconvincing) Cisak (probably fourth choice) Verma (who are ya?) Brown (injured) The back up's pathetic when you think about it. It is, Levi Psssh played in the Tranmere at home game earlier in the season, but hasn't had a look in since, and this is my point, due to him not having a look in it looks as if there is absolutely no competition for the Left Wing place. Dyer won't be trying as hard because he knows he can play as badly as he wants and still keep his place. Same with Fryatt, I get the feeling he has a 'well i'll be near the top of the scoring charts at the end of the season so theres nothing to play for' attitude. The squad depth is useless, main reason we've dropped points lately.
Halfsy Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 I think that, unfortunately Matty Fryatt is useless without a target man by his side. He is not particularly quick or skilful to get in behind defences, neither is he good in the air. However, with a target man he is very good at working off the flick-ons and playing on the shoulder of the last defender and he is a very good finisher. Dickov and Hayles are unfortunately again past it, and i think they highlight that the current squad doesn't have the strength in depth to compete at Championship level. I have been very impressed with Pearson, but when DJ Campbell has scored 6 goals since joining Blackpool, and we have dead wood like Dickov and Hayles on the bench, it makes you wonder why we sent him out on loan? And i am really not a fan of DJ Campbell, but pace frightens defenders. I think Howard can still play at that level, but Fryatt, although he never had a settled strike partner, managed just 6 goals in 60 appearances for us in that division. I know not many people think we can, or even want us to, but i personally want to see Beckford here. If Leeds don't go up, he would be a perfect signing for us. He is lightening quick, reasonably strong and good in the air and is a very good finisher. Although his application and attitude isn't his best attribute, i think Pearson is the right kind of manager to nurture that, and hopefully Milan will show the ambition to try and sign players like that for next season. I haven't seen much of Cox from Swindon, but he also has a good goalscoring record and he looks like a very technical player. I know a mate of mine, who is a Swindon fan thinks he is fantastic. They're both young too, and Cox especially has been scoring goals in a struggling team, which shows he can do things on his own. Which, i'm afraid Matty Fryatt will never be able to do.

MC Prussian Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 Fryatt's POTY. You all, QUIET!!! See Hear you on Saturday.
sir_bob Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 Peterborough have a squad no where near as good as ours when it comes to ability, Oh really? So you wouldn't have wanted CMS and Mclean up front instead of Fryatt and Dickov on Saturday? I would hazard Boyd is a better left winger than dire too. I won't speculate on the rest of the team. You may be top of the league but you've prolly only seen us twice this season so you're clueless regarding the ability of our squad. That is all.

Yeah you could be right but you are still second but you were not spouting off when we thrashed you at the walkers how howard/frayatt made you look a 4th tier team, You sound very much like your manager and his father brilliant winners piss poor losers.
Darkzzz_ Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 I would take CMS and Boyd for sure. Good players, but they won't be at Posh for much longer anyway. Posh will get raped before long and be back in the lower echelons of the football league.

I would have liked to have CMS but not McLean. He needs about a billion chances to score. I've actually seen Peterborough play three times this season, and Boyd has been anonymous in all of them. I have a Peterborough mate who has seen him 20 times this season and we have come to the same conclusion. Boyd is a flat track bully. Look at the teams he has scored against this season. The only decent side he's scored against so far is Leeds. The rest of the time he goes around scoring against Hartlepool and Cheltenham and Swindon etc. The guy will get found out next season, no question.

I agree with the whole of the first half of your post and disagree with the whole of the second! Fryatt scored a lot of goals for a really, really poor Walsall side (I think they got relegated when he left). Fryatt was poor last season and the season before, but he showed the potential to play at Championship level in 2005-6, when he had confidence and a settled strike partner. That's what he needs more than anything else. What sort of message does it send out to our squad if we ditch one of our most important players based on past failures? We have to reward those who have provided such an excellent and enjoyable season. Fryatt hasn't turned into a bad player since January, and neither did he turn into a worldbeater between August and December. Fryatt has a point to prove. Let's give him one more shot at the championship
MC Prussian Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 Fryatt once looked like a Cox, too. That was three years ago, at Walsall. Both are really good players in League One - but Fryatt has shown he can't cut it in the Championship, although I wouldn't solely blame that misfortune on him alone. My primary fear is that Cox could await the same fate. Unless both prove me wrong and come up with 25+ goals one level higher...
Super Arj Posted 30 March 2009 Author Posted 30 March 2009 i cant understand why people always look at the league's top goalscorers when it comes to buying players, consistency is a lot more valuable than a player who scored 30 goals in league 1, will cost a fortune, and will not guarantee goals. personally, even with his age, i would take kevin phillips as opposed to simon cox, ricky lambert etc...
morris1234 Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 fryatt is a great great player, i want him at leicester. strikers have bad patches, like everybody else. we now know exactly how deadly he can be, personally im right behind him because with confidence this man is lethal. hes a leicester player so lets get behind him. END OF.
Houdini Logic Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 I seem to remember 95% of people's Christmas's were ruined if he didn't sign a new contract. Swings and Roundabouts - he'll come good again soon

Individually our squad is way better than yours, Fryatt and Howard have more between them than McLean and Mackail-Smith, and at the end of the day our squad are above yours in the league. Its not like you had any high expectations for this season, but I will give you this, your teams attitude is far above ours.
