Mr Happy Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 In contrast to last season, we don't have a team full of right backs this season just using Gilbert as our first choice. With a lack of competition for places this has been a problem whenever hes been/or is injured, even with Edworthy now we still use Gilbert as first choice. So we have to use players out of their natural position which causes us problems as demonstrated by Hobbs earlier on this season when he played at right back. Now Morrison is playing right back and I was curious to find out what peoples opinions were on him in this position. With Tunchev coming back from injury as well as Brown and Maybe even Hobbs if we sign him permanantly should we keep Morrison there for next season if we don't sign Gilbert permanantly? Or should we look at other options?
The Doctor Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 sign gilbert permentantly if possible but bring in another player as competition for him
Ultra Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 sign gilbert permentantly if possible but bring in another player as competition for him Depends on how Cox or O'Neill do, we may not need to sign another right-back.
Cobbo Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 I would sign Gilbert up definately. Morrison can provide adequate cover too.
Joe. Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 I would sign Gilbert up definately. Morrison can provide adequate cover too. This.
Fox92 Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Lets get Gilbert or another right back in. I like Morrison, but I don't like centre backs playing full back although he can provide cover. Is Frank Simek from Sheffield Wednesday worth a stab at?
Corky Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Gilbert as first choice. Morrison has shown, over this weekend, he's more than capable of stepping in when needed, so he's a back up.
Simi Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Depends on how Cox or O'Neill do, we may not need to sign another right-back. True, but none have gained enough experience this season so given the chance I'd snap up Gilbert. Morrison has done adequately as well, wouldn't be first choice though.
Lillehamring Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 This. nah, thanks for the offer, but this full stop looks a little fruity!
Joe. Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 nah, thanks for the offer, but this full stop looks a little fruity! Excuse me, I think you'll find it was formed to the exact requirements for you Mr.Valerenga.
Lillehamring Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Excuse me, I think you'll find it was formed to the exact requirements for you Mr.Valerenga. i'm extraordinarily picky - you think you've done alright, but....
Napoleon In Rags Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Gilbert definitly, seems underated defensively to me. And is quick so can recover. Just done give him the ball! its like its on fire when he has it
morris1234 Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 bring in gilbert i think. but heres a shout if not...................ryan shotton?!!?
TrickyTrev Posted 15 April 2009 Posted 15 April 2009 I think we need to see what Arsenal are quoting till we commit to Gilbert. I mean the boys put in a good shift this season but anything over half a mil is way over the odds.
MPH Posted 15 April 2009 Posted 15 April 2009 keep morrisson right back as in right back in the changing room? ahahahahaha!
Sly Posted 15 April 2009 Posted 15 April 2009 Morrisson did okay top be honest, I felt more comfortable with him as a full back, rather than a centre half. I know we've raved about Gilbert but do you think he's really the answer going forwards? He's quick okay but he isn't that solid. I'd rather see us having a more solid defence next season, as I think we'll need it. Saying that, if Gilberts availiable for the right price, why not!!
maddog Posted 15 April 2009 Posted 15 April 2009 Edworthy is not dead. Said in the Merc today he WOULD have played in the Hereford game had he not hurt his back, therefore would have probably been in the Leeds game to. So Morrison stepped in. Nice to know he's match fit though, or was until he hurt is back So that shows Pearson prefers Edworthy to Morrison. Or did prefer Edworthy for the Hereford game certainly.
Legend_in_blue Posted 15 April 2009 Posted 15 April 2009 It's clear to me we need two right backs. Gilbert needs to be signed up, as long as the offer required is sensible. I still think it's possible to bring in someone better than him though. We need someone more physical than him for that position. Is he big enough? That would be my only concern. The majority of championship teams 'play' football through bullying tactics. Would he hold up to the physicality of it? I wouldn't go for a makeshift RB either. Morrison has played well in the position but he won't get away with it in the championship.
