Can someone in the know clarify the new shirt/sponsorship situation.

I thought it had been announced it this was a 2 year cycle but that the badge would change next year and would be sponsorship free during that 2 year cycle.

In the Mercury tonight hidden at the end of the Dickov article it says:

Leicester City's new home kit, unveiled at Friday night's game, will be without a sponsor for only one season

Scrub that. I have just read through the flyer that was given out pre-Scunny match, the Scunny programme and the OS and there's no mention either way. I think the only previous mention that we would be sponsorless both seasons was from the Mockery - which again would not surprise me.

I dod remember seeing that something was changing during the 2nd season of the kit, but I thought that was the mentioning 125 years on the kit.

This is how I understood it, The shirt that was unveiled would be for 2 years without a sponsor, BUT and here is the clever marketing ploy to perhaps get abit more money for the following season (And tbh, They will probably have more money of me personally because i'll probably buy the following seasons aswell - I feel shirts go tatty after 1 years use, because of the amount of wear they get from me) it will be the same shirt but instead of having the celebratory 125 LCFC badge on it they will change that to the normal LCFC badge.

So it will be the same shirt if you like but it will be different in the 2nd season (Contradictory )

Very Clever.

Besides we have a sponsor on the new shirt anyway - Haven't you see the big Joma bit above the badge?

**See the Home Shirt 2009/10 thread if you're not sure what i'm on about.

I think this too.

2009/2010 season >>> 125 year badge and no sponsor commemorating the 125 years

2010-2011 season >>> Back to normal badge.

I'm confused about whether we get a sponsor though in 2010/2011 season? Or is it still plain?

I think still plain, the only change being the badge.

Personally, I've never thought it would be a blank shirt for two years. That's an awful lot of sponsorship money to miss out on. Even in times of a recession, there will always be company's out there willing to pay for there logo to be splashed across a football shirt given the media outlets.

As Matt has already said, the shirt will have to change ever so slightly during our 126th year. Given this, many fans will buy again next year.

The only thing that will not change for the two years is the design. Call it clever if you like. It is, in my opinion, a little mis-leading.

ive understood its 2 years sponsorless. i've heard or read it repeatedly in merc, on radio, on internet.

2 years with a change of badge, i wouldn't have ordered the thing if it was only 1 year sponsorless ffs :@

I was sure I read Mandaric saying it was going to be without a sponsor for the 2 years.

Maybe it wasn't Milan - but I am sure I read it somewhere...

Maybe I wrote it down and then read it?

I was under the assumptions that we would be without a sponsor for a year only (to celebrate out 125 years) and then the same style kit but with a sponsor in 2010/2011 - but then that brings the question as to what about Loros for that year? I think that the sponsors will change after this year as surely the club cannot afford to lost out on sponsorship money for two years! But then again, I could be wrong...maybe someone should email the club to seek further clarification.../Point them to this thread!

I know the answer to this question - there is no answer yet. Many clubs are going sponsorless this year due to the financial climate but it certainly could be possible that we may have a sponsor on this shirt as we were only advised the 125 year shirt would deffinately be sponsorless, the ammount of shirts that are sold this season will certainly influence milans decision wherever the club will be financially better off or not as Im sure the board are hoping for a large increase this season

It would never make financial sense to be without a sponsor just because shirt sales are up. The fee commanded for a shirt sponsor can be serious dosh. Even in the current climate, halving the fee for a new company would be beneficial to club and new sponsor. Even the best shirt in the world made by Adidas & Nike combined, would not bring in enough extra sales to compensate the loss of a major sponsor. Also, get a decent sponsor (something not resembling a cartoon character that lives under the sea) and this could boost sales.

Why would any body buy a shirt the season after next with a sponsor on it if you could have bought an identical shirt without a sponsor?

good point, tho it won't have the 125years bit so, you'll still get a few completists...

whatever the scenario, they surely shouldn't be describing it as a two year cycle...

Foxes fans have decided by an overwhelming margin for the shirt not to carry any branding.

Some 65 per cent of supporters chose the option in a poll run on the club's official website.

Runner-up in the poll was Forever Foxes, third was the 125 Foxes commemorative logo, and fourth was Blue Army.

Chairman Milan Mandaric said: "The fans have voted and we have listened to them.

"Next year our home shirt will be completely blank on the front. This was the overwhelming choice by our supporters and we are happy to accommodate their wishes.

"It will be a totally iconic and unique shirt that is fitting for our 125th anniversary."

Over 20,000 votes were cast in less than a week which the club hailed as a huge success.

The design for the home shirt will be unveiled to supporters at the final home game of the season against S****horpe United.

The commemorative kit will go on sale in the summer and be worn for the whole of the 2009-10 season.
