fook that bullshit, why pay for them to lose weight when they will more than likely never go to the gym, they can go and get a job and pay for gym membership if they really want to go.

At present they are ENTITLED to benefits due to there illness which are directly related form being overweight. So surely it would make sense to use part of that money to at least get them fit so they have no excuses not to look for jobs. The problem is it might be to late because of the conditions which have developed due from being overweight but at least keep healthy for there ownsake.

This is what i don't understand. They should be offered gym memberships?

And I better be careful what I say because I don't want the feminists on my back, but Dawn French is bigger than the lady in the picture yet is one of the most successful british comedians on tv. :dunno::sweating:

A gym's no good to them they've got to change their eating habits, that's not going to happen unless they are committed to it, so is very unlikely or someone polices what they eat again very unlikely.

When you give people the freedom to live their lives as they choose and the money to do so and they are fed a diet (no pun intended) of media driven undesirable lifestyles coupled with a culture that suggests there's nothing wrong with being obese then this is the result.

They are almost a lost cause what we should be doing is counteracting this culture through education, and better lifestyles facilities for all to prevent more of the same in the future.

Free gym membership is being rolled out by the NHS in Brum in an effort to get tubby types healthy - the memberships cost less than the amount required to treat weight-related health issues. Apparently.

Companies should offer free gym memberships to employees - it's a no brainer. Healthy employees have lower incidents of physical and mental illness.

If more companies did it, it would drive down the cost of memberships.

I cant see any qualms with free gym memberships also. It has a positive effect so why not.

The government really gets me going sometimes when it comes to health. They go on about this new overweight generation yet they spend money on building skate parks. Around my area the only football pitches are private and you have to pay to use yet they build a skate park and waste the taxpayers money so that a small niche can skate.

Of course it gets ripped apart a year or so later because not only is it an accident haven but it turned out to be a hangout for kids to smoke a bit of wacky baccy and drink booze not leaving out the grafiti.

Another waste of taxpayers money.

This bloody racist government. First they were giving darkies benefits now fat people.

fatfamily_1367600c.jpg

Family who are 'too fat to work' say £22,000 worth of benefits is not enough

A family of four with a combined weight of 83 stone say they are "too fat to work" and need more than the £22,000 they currently receive in benefits.

Philip Chawner, 53, and his 57-year-old wife Audrey weigh 24st. Their daughter Emma, 19, weighs 17st, while her older sister Samantha, 21, weighs 18st.

The family from Blackburn claim £22,508 a year in benefits, equivalent to the take-home pay from a £30,000 salary.

The Chawners, haven't worked in 11 years, claim their weight is a hereditary condition and the money they receive is insufficient to live on.

Mr Chawner said: "What we get barely covers the bills and puts food on the table. It's not our fault we can't work. We deserve more."

The family claim to spend £50 a week on food and consume 3,000 calories each a day. The recommended maximum intake is 2,000 for women and 2,500 for men.

"We have cereal for breakfast, bacon butties for lunch and microwave pies with mashed potato or chips for dinner," Mrs Chawner told Closer magazine.

"All that healthy food, like fruit and veg, is too expensive. We're fat because it's in our genes. Our whole family is overweight," she added.

Each week, Mr and Mrs Chawner, who have been married for 23 years, receive £177 in income support and incapacity benefit. Mrs Chawner is paid an extra £330-a-month disability allowance for epilepsy and

asthma, both a result of being overweight.

Mr Chawner gets £71 a month after developing Type 2 diabetes because of his size. He was on a waiting list for a gastric band last year, but a heart condition made the operation unsuitable. Their daughter

Samantha receives £84 in Jobseekers' Allowance each fortnight while Emma, who is training to be a hairdresser, gets £58 every two weeks under a hardship fund for low-income students.

Emma, said: "I'm a student and don't have time to exercise" she said "We all want to lose weight to stop the abuse we get in the street, but we don't know how."

Haha. Thing is there not even that fat. There's a guy at my work whose at least 30 stone. Why having type 2 diabetes stops you working, I don't know.

Give me hard working immigrants instead of these waste of space.

And at that size, they are wasting one hell of a lot of a space. Combined, they must be wasting at least a postcode.

At least i try to answer your questions.

So - you and Tony believe in free markets until the moment you feel compelled to engineer a false one by telling employers they can only recruit from the home market? Makes you sound like a socialist.

My solution to unemployment?

Cancel all Tax Credits and dismantle the inefficient (Gordon Brown) network.

Cut all unemployment benefits after 12 months, reducing to zero by 24 months.

Pay benefits in the form of tokens which can only be used in exchange for clothing, food and utility bills - and not cover alcohol or cigarettes.

Makes me sound like a Tory.

I don't say you can only recruit from the home market. I say the dole queue needs slashing as a matter of urgency and that all job applicants should be treated equally rather than some being more equal than others. There are probably ways to do both and yours would doubtless shorten the dole queue.

I take it that's a "no comment" on the benefits question.

The story has already been posted and commented on, if you're referring to the fat family.

Immigrants Get Everything

Contrary to popular belief immigrants are far better off than good old native scroungers of this great country of ours. Yesterday I spoke to one example, Mohammad Zeep, who told me through an interpeter that he came here from Iraq three months ago and has claimed and received the following AMAZING benefits:

1. Free Housing (luxury docklands penthouse flat with all mod cons).

2. Free Mobilty Scooter, Car and Caravanette with One Years Free Fuel. Lifetime pension of £756 per week plus free £230 a day food allowance.

3. Free Season ticket to Wigan Athletic FC. Twenty crates of Dom Perignon, 250 cigars, open ended clothing allowance to shop free of charge at a selection of 25 upmarket stores in London, including Harrods.

I was also stunned to hear that Mohammad, who looks a cross between Omar Sharif and Fred Flintstone, had two weeks earlier secretly wed an ex-member of the royal family after befriending Prince Charles at a recent polo event that he had received a free invitation to by an undiclosed member of the Labour Party.

Now, I'm not one to cast aspersions, but these bloody foreigners seem to get everything handed to them on a silver platter. I'm not a racist but I think they should put them all on the next boat back to where they came from and sod the expense. Australias nice, why don't they shove off there!

To be fair Skateboarding isn't a-wash with money and is a growing pastime for the youth of these days, don't require masses of maintance and the skateparks act as a place to hang out.

Football pitches, what with the requirement of changing rooms, grass cutting etc are proberly slightly more costly, and of course the sport itself is awash with money - I would point your annoyed finger more towards the FA / Premier League.

If they are serious in developing youth talent, the need to secure a decent place for the kids (and the grow men) to play on - so how about using some of the multi millions they earn in purchasing green area's and maintaining them to a decent standard. Hey, they could even make a decent profit from clubs renting the facilities at an acceptable price - simples!

But this is completely off topic, so apologies.

Kill them all or pay nothing - that should do it?

And as much as you would like to create all thigns equal, the nature of the world is nothing is equal. (accept maybe twins, but even they surely have differences? Ooooh I know a cloan!)

You can see I'm not treating your arguements with the distain they deserve. Seriousness is for idiots!

I can see where you are coming from but in this specific case, the skate park was built on a park. They put cement over grass. Im not talking about having changing rooms, massage beds, ice baths lol, im talking just a pair of goal posts in the ground and maybe a bit of white paint.

The park is already cut all over so it would be no extra cost to groundsmen as they already had to cut that stretch of land before hand. The cost of the skate park was high in the thousands whereas a couple of goal posts and paint can't be that much surely.

Yes the f.a. play a part but that is a different subject and they need to to target the schools if they want to help the youth progress. Im talking about all ages just wanting to have a kick about on a sunny sunday afternoon. The government were banging on about how a lot of people are lethargic and obese.

The problem we had was we wanted to play footy on a pitch but we used to get kicked off all the time because the only place with nets locally was private land and had to be paid to be used. So whilst all these pitches are being left to soak up the sunshine and not see any action we have to look elsewhere. I don't blame the private firms who own the pitches because that is there business and they paid for it so fair enough but the point is what do we do when we want to have a game of footy on a pitch wthout paying.

Of course it doesn't stop you from playing down the park with a couple of jumpers as goal posts. But when you see land which could potentially be used for a football pitch(which the public have been crying for), then used to build a skate park only for it to turn into a police hotspot and eventually get ripped down is spitting in the taxpayers face.

But this is completely off topic, so apologies.

Don't apoligise I think the thread went off topic a long time ago. lol

The cunt who got elected for them is a Politics teacher. :|

It makes you think, if Politics were ever to be made compulsory in schools then the teachers would have a big impact on how the children perceive each party and make them favour the teachers party of preference.

It is certainly a worry, that's for sure. I would advocate barring members of the BNP from teaching positions, as they are barred from working in the Police or Prison Service. If anything, it's even more important that the fascists are banned from influencing impressionable pupils and poisoning their minds.

Looking like they might sneak the final seat in the North-West as well. Dark times.

Burnley and Oldham have long been known as BNP sympathetic areas, and the situation was exacerbated by the race riots in 2001. With them gaining a seat in Yorkshire too, I can only surmise there must be something in the water up north.

Maybe, it becomes a bit of a grey area though. The best teacher I ever had was the politics teacher I had for A-levels in college. He was the most knowledgeable, rational and seemingly politically unpartisan geezer you've ever met (even thought if anything he was a bit right leaning) but I googled his name one time and from a couple of articles he'd written found out he was some militant Marxist who advocated a socialist state through (if necessary) violent revolution. Don't think people should necessarily be punished for their personal views without proof that they're trying to inflict them on other people.

Teachers who are Marxists? Surely not!
