Leicester City fans can outdo the Rams – Lee Hoos

Lee Hoos is challenging Leicester City fans to match the support received by local rivals Derby County.

City chief executive Hoos said Derby's current status as the best-supported club in the Championship rankles with him.

Despite finishing in a lowly 18th place, Derby were the top-draw in the second tier with nine sell-outs in excess of 30,000 and an average gate of 29,440.

City's League One title-winning season was watched by an average home gate of 20,233 with more than 30,000 in the Walkers Stadium for the final home game of the season against S****horpe.

Hoos said: "I would really love us to emulate Derby. They have a reputation as the best supported club and that rankles with me.

"They have the same-sized stadium and had 29,000 in the ground every week and I would love to see our average capacity up there.

"It is close to 21,000 now, and it is a goal to be better supported than Derby.

"We'd love full-houses every week as we did for the S****horpe game. We want to replicate that great atmosphere in every game.

"We're where we were this time last year with more than 10,000 season tickets sold, but less than 15,000. We're quite pleased with the good sales, we're still selling and there is plenty of enthusiasm. It's giving us something to work with."

Derby drew big crowds, despite only spending a handful of weeks in the top half of the table.

A Derby spokesman said: "Our fans have been phenomenal when, to be honest, there has been little return on the pitch for their loyalty.

"We have a great history and heritage and, like Leicester, we are a one-club city.

"As much as the manager plays it down, there is the (Nigel) Clough factor because his name is football royalty," added the spokesman, who said the club had frozen season-ticket prices and "added extra value" with tailored packages.

Lance Tomlyn, of the Independent Supporters Association, believes if City do well in the Championship, it will awaken the latent support for the club in the city.

He said: "We had 20,000 season-ticket holders and average gates of 28,000 when we got back into the Premier League in 2003 under Micky Adams, and we retained a lot of fans when we came down the previous season.

"It is going to be more difficult now because we are coming up from League One, and you have to try to build momentum from there.

With newly-announced higher ticket prices, rising unemployment rates and people keeping a tighter eye on expenses, I'm sure we can match that number easily.

Dream on, Hoos. We might be able to pull it off in the Premier League, but not now.

The reason Derby get such big attendances is that they have 22,000 season ticket holders. Their matchday prices are just as expensive as Leicester. I used to go and watch them until it became too expensive to pick and choose matches there.

and even if only half those season tickets holders turn up, doesn't it still show on the attendences?

But dont you find it at all impresssive that they have sold 22,000 season tickets?

That is exactly what I was thinking.

Yeah it aint bad at all. Their season tickets are about 50 quid cheaper than our equivalents though.

Also, Lee Hoss is really starting to fook me off. He should really shut up.

Maybe Derby know how to treat their fans.

after the season they had just given them it was the least they could do really

:frusty: The only reason Derby fill their ground is because they sold loads of season tickets when they got promoted two years ago by giving priority for play-off final tickets to those who bought a ST early, and managed to retain them last season by offering a cut-price deal. Even now they offer deals such as an unused ticket programme allowing STHs to get free replacement tickets for future matches if they miss a game. You even get something like 90% of a ST for free if you buy a mobile from their sponsor.

If Derby's next few years in the Championship are as bad as our 05-08 period, and they were to get relegated to the 3rd Division, there is no way they would average anything better than what we did at the same prices.

And whoever is head of PR at the club is obviously as thick as two short planks. How they can leak the price increases to the Mockery (it appeared on their website before the OS) one day and then give them a story hoping for bigger gates the next is beyond belief. I mean what sort of reaction do they want?

I think we should be delighted if we get 25k average.

Many clubs would want that level of support.

Seconded.

However if we dont fill the walkers every game then i predict the end for NP.

PS Congrats on your 10k corky--sad bastard!!!

"Yeah, we want to fill the stadium and to do this we're going to increase matchday prices and hike up the cost for a season ticket"

****ing pleb.

Piss off Hoos you dick.

I think that most City fans can't accept that Derby are just a better club with more fans than us. Leicester fans should turn up more, but most are johnny come lateleys when we start to do well. At least we are not as bad as Cov fans

I don't think Maybes has any beef with that, just that the point that Ched raised.

:dunno:

Still, it shows a good example of how fans should be treated. Hoos coming out with all this tripe trying to guilt trip the fans into buying 'cos Derby have is ridiculous. The reason we haven't got as many as them is not just because we haven't achieved a lot, it's because the club are seemingly not interested in giving fans benefit.

I agree with Maybs 100% If he wants help pissing off Hoos, to be fair look no further than Kilworth :D

I wonder why Cov's chief exec did not do this last season?

I rekon Sky should have a league table for the Championship clubs & their ST sales.

I honestly think us, Derby and Forest are very even in terms of support. The away supports for last season back it up and us and forest were the same averages at home during our league 1 seasons and the most recent CC ones.

Derby are marketed better and their fans being well taken care of financially at the moment, that is all. Their season ticket prices compared to us and forest proves this.

So what Hoos is saying in my opinion is nothing short of a discrace.
