MooseBreath Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 So back to my comment about the neanderthals who follow Top Gear - the BBC DG has received death threats because he hasn't renewed Clarkson contract. Proves my point. And it seems the followers don't believe in climate problems either.
Guest Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 I love Top Gear and I haven't sent any death threats. Oldham fans were sending death threats to their own board members no so long back because they nearly signed Ched Evans. In fact I was going to list instances of death threats being sent, but you only have to google it to see that anyone from Royals to pop stars, to footballers to politicians have been subject to death threats in the past. You even have music fans sending them to partners of their idol. So the fact a few idiots got a bit OTT and sent this to the DG proves nothing, as there seems to be Neanderthal followers in nearly all walks of life, and it's not all Top Gear fans. So we agree. I know it seems obvious, but you have to explain these things to FIF. The same can be said about afew IS or muslim extremists. Should we just let them get on with it too? It's a TV show, get over it.
Strokes Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 Interesting how many don't extend that same courtesy to members of a particular group when a lunatic minority of them carries out heinous acts, isn't it?Interesting how many will but not for a group like this.
Jimothy Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 So we agree. The same can be said about afew IS or muslim extremists. Should we just let them get on with it too? It's a TV show, get over it. Well no we don't. You taring all Top Gear fans with one brush. And in one breath you're comparing it to Muslim extremist the next you're saying it's only a tv show. Of course we shouldn't let the minority of Muslims continue to ruin lives and kill people, but you're comparing a bunch of knife and gun wielding maniacs with a bunch of bored keyboard warriors who probably haven't left the house or had human contact for the past year. You've just labelled all Top Gear fan Neanderthal because a few decided to send death threats, and tried to use it to prove a point, it's ridiculous. As I pointed out thousands of people send death threats from all walks of life whether they be Tory supporters, Labour supporters, Oldham fans, One Direction fans, Royslist, anti-Royalist, etc. Are you going to label supporters of all those things Neanderthal because of the action of a few? Because that's what you're doing with Top Gear fans. Yes it's only a tv show, and I am over it. What I'm not over its that some jumped up shit from France has decided to bunch me in the same category as a few senseless idiots because I like to spend an hour on a Sunday night watching some middle aged men piss about on TV.
The Railway Man Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 Have I actually just seen a loose comparison with ISIS with Top Gear fans? Well no we don't. You taring all Top Gear fans with one brush. Obviously I'm not, but maybe I need to explain that to certain Top Gear fans. Top Gear attracts far more neanderthals than most other BBC programmes just as football attracts far more neanderthals than most other sports. The mere fact you are in one or both subsets doesn't necessarily mean you are a neanderthal. I could give you examples of 1000's of TV shows and hundreds of sports where the "audience" doesn't resort to death threats because some guy (who has broken the law and his contract acting in a reprehensible and thuggish manner) doesn't have his contract renewed. I'm guessing that even as big a star as I am if I insult and hit my director after I've been given a final warning I'd probably be out of the job after a hearing. And it IS just a TV show. Did the BBC DG get death threats after Tom Baker's contract wasn't renewed by the BBC for Dr. Who? I see later how you are tarring Top Gear viewers - probably worse than being called a neanderthal. As for you last comment - ah diddums! and if recent 1 day bans are anything to go by your name calling will get you a 24 hr ban for personal attacks! Get over yourself and your TV programme.
Guest Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 Have I actually just seen a loose comparison with ISIS with Top Gear fans? I like that. No you saw a comparison of attitudes to people making death threats and then the overreaction of a Top Gear watcher throwing his toys out of his pram.

You've just said it yourself, because someone falls under both subsets, doesn't make them a Neanderthal, so can you please not label us all as such. Go on then, list 1000 TV shows where the presenters has been removed for punching a colleague. I didn't hear anything about Tom Baker lamping a camera man. The decision to remove Clarkson was forced upon people during a the height of the show popularity. People were obviously angry, and have shown there displeasure in a stupid way. Tom Baker left Dr Who because he ironically fell out with, but didn't punch, a producer, it was his choice, hence less public outcry. What you don't seem to have grasped is that just because you think all top gear fans are right wing ukip/Tory voting white males, doesn't give you the right to label us all Neanderthals. I for example am nowhere near right wing, I just enjoy the show. I wouldn't worry about a 1 day ban, I don't think I can be banned for telling the truth.

You are not a neanderthal more likely an early Ponginae or possibly a Didelphid. I think your insecurities come from not having escaped Loughborough despite your nearing middle age. Try not to be afraid of people who live outside Leicestershire and then you won't feel a need to act out aggressively. Top Gear is just a TV show - your life won't become any more meaningless because the thug who fronted it hasn't had his contract renewed. Chin up - things could be much worse.

Try not be afraid of people who enjoy a tv show you don't, then maybe you'll stop making sweeping generalisation about them. What I'm actually angry about, if you could remove your head from your arse for a moment is idiots like you who think you can insult 7 million people because of the actions of hundreds because they like a tv show you don't watch. Because I still live in Leicestershire whilst you've moved to France doesn't make you better or more intelligent than me, just means you live in different place for christ sake. It doesn't make you the fountain of knowledge you think you are.

Coming from a guy who fled the country to escape his bullies and to find false validity for his loneliness. You really are an unpleasant person, fif.
leicsmac Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 We must be talking about different things. I'm talking about the systematic manipulation of data that has been going on for years, at least as far back as the climategate scandal, and which was recently shown to be still going on. Link here with numerous links back to source data. https://notalotofpeopleknowthat.wordpress.com/2015/01/20/massive-tampering-with-temperatures-in-south-america/ And I still don't understand what preparation you think we need to take? If we don't know what direction the temperature is going to take, how do we know what preparations to make? Yup, that's a reputable source all right. /sarcasm I actually took a look at the raw data from the GISS for Puerto Casado as the article suggested, and found something interesting. It would seem that the difference between one chart and another was caused by a change in the use of datasets: Quote: "It is an archive of the GISTEMP station record from Nov 2011 when we discontinued the use of NCDCs GHCNv2 dataset and is provided only as a historical facility. The differences between this station data set and our current station dataset are due to the switch from GHCN v2 to GHCN v3.2, and the reliance on NCDC homogenizations of station data instead of our own original methodology." The data that showed an upward trend was pre-2011 data, from a now discontinued and no longer adhered-to dataset. So...the data that has been 'doctored', as the site elegantly put it, actually shows doctoring from an upward trend to a downward one! Whoops. Seriously pushing the 'warming' agenda there guys, you know, replacing data that shows warming with data that shows a possible cooling trend and using the scientific method of improving their observational data. Perhaps...maybe, just maybe, it's because there is in fact no 'conspiracy' within the scientific community, and all there is is people on the outside misinterpreting out-of-date data for their own ends? Anyway, I do think we're talking past each other here as I haven't denied the fact that global temperature trends are way too complex to predict given the lack of data - in fact, I mentioned that first up. In fact I'm not really sure exactly what it is that we're disagreeing on, apart from your misplaced mistrust of the climate scientific community.
MooseBreath Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 I picked that source because it linked back to raw data. The problems with it were reported all over the place including many mainstream media outlets. I can only assume you missed it due to being a broad or something.

Being a loner in France must be boring!

The problems with it were reported all over the place including many mainstream media outlets. I can only assume you missed it due to being a broad or something. I'm pretty sure mainstream media didn't pick this particular dataset from GISS for their story, because if they did it would have been a falsehood for the reasons I specified above - the dataset that showed warming has actually been abandoned in favour of another data refining method that shows no real change in temperature, ergo there is no possibility this could be used to push an agenda that temperatures are increasing as the data that could have been used to push a 'warming' agenda is no longer being used or is valid. Climategate was one very well known instance where data was rushed into the wider world before it had been fully analysed. Couple that with a scare story and you get trouble on both sides. But that one instance alone (and I'm still yet to see conclusive evidence of actual data tampering as opposed to merely switching analysis methods as with GISS) has been used by people on both sides of the fence to generalise the entire climate science community, and that isn't fair.

This one specifically talks about the contents of the other link. An opinion piece that agrees with the blogger, No other sources to corroborate what the blogger was saying. The point I made in the previous post regarding the adopting of new data still stands. Come on Moose, are we really going anywhere with this? I think we're going round and round here, and I doubt one of us is going to convince the other at this point. I've already said that temperature data is about as much use for predicting future climate patterns as a chocolate fireguard due to the lack of time it's been gathered over, and I'm pretty sure the scientific community knows this too. Sadly, such things get out and are then used as footballs by both sides of the debate - once again, as I've said pretty much ad nauseum here.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 Dunno if this has been mentioned at all. But why is what Clarkson done any worse than two rugby players having it out on the pitch?
Stadt Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 Dunno if this has been mentioned at all. But why is what Clarkson done any worse than two rugby players having it out on the pitch?I don't think the producer was expecting to get punched within the confines of a studio
Guest Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 Dunno if this has been mentioned at all. But why is what Clarkson done any worse than two rugby players having it out on the pitch? Or any different to a thug in the street beating your grandmother? What's the fuss about eh? Just jez being Jez.
Rincewind Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 Punching a fellow workmate was not written into his contract and scrums are not part of the daily routine. Anyway would not a rugby player be sent off for fighting and possibly face a ban? punching the producer was no different to a worker in a factory punching a foreman. gross misconduct.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 I don't think the producer was expecting to get punched within the confines of a studio You don't 'expect' to get punched in a rugby game. It's not in the laws of the game and therefore not legal to general law. Yet Rugby players are at work during a game. I like JC a lot. I think he's hilarious and acts up to his reputation. I also think things like the India/trots comment and the 'slope' on the bridge have been jumped upon by the left apologists. As my lodger rightly pointed out (she did 3 months in India) she didn't know anyone out there who didn't suffer with them. And in any case it's not actually a dig at India more a dig at the tourists it attracts for having weak stomachs. Having said all that, it probably is the right time for JC to go. TG has gone stale over the past couple of years or so.
