Guest Bob Hazels shorts Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 Biggest market for Top Gear is obviously overseas sales, I don't mind him in the right show but I think outside of UK they will think he's a dick.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 Hold the damn phone... Any chance of Brian Johnson being a co-host? AC/DC are massive everywhere so he'd probably be a bit more of a draw than Chris Evans for international audiences, hosts his own car show, doesn't take himself seriously... Probably a strong candidate I'd have thought
Rincewind Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 Not being a fan of Clarkson and not out to get a fast car I am not too bothered either way but may watch it as Evans is a little more bearable.
Samilktray Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 Not being a fan of Clarkson and not out to get a fast car I am not too bothered either way but may watch it as Evans is a little more bearable. How much have you actually watched it because it's not all fast cars. Very strange thing to say.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 Rincy made this point a while back saying Top Gear is just for people who have millions of pounds they want to waste on a car and Top Gear will help them decide what car to waste it on, I tried to point it out to him that it's an entertainment programme, the cars are almost secondary and the car "reviews" have probably never made any difference to anyone's preference of vehicle purchase. Don't think he took any notice If it's a show featuring expensive vehicles hosted by rich people though, there's no way Ken would understand its existence
Stadt Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 Yeah tbh people don't watch it for the new Lambos they watch it to see them drive over lakes and mountains in 90s estate cars
Leicesterpool Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 Evans is probably a good person to replace Clarkson, Evans as got his comedy side and is normally a good presenter. If they could get Phil Glenister on board aswell then that would be good.
Strokes Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 It's a no from me, top gear wasn't about the cars. I like Evans but it just doesn't fit. I'll wait to see what clarkson produces.
Jimothy Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 I like Evans, and I like Top Gear, but I don't like this. Nothing against Evans, it'd be the same whoever they got, but it just won't be the same and therefore won't work. Should have just accepted it was over and ended the show.
Rincewind Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 How much have you actually watched it because it's not all fast cars. Very strange thing to say. I think you will find that the trio were lookingfor the performance in a car which involved putting them through their paces by putting a foot down on the acellerater. Also those cars do not come cheap. There was also a test for guests to see who could go round in circles the fastest and Clarkson putting a marker on a board whils making a 'witty' remark hoping noone noticed he had used it before. I have no idea of the cost of some of the cars featured but each time I saw it they were singing the praises of the latest high powered jag or similar. I congratulate you if you have one. Most people I know have second hand cars. I know its not a programme for millionaires with money to waste. They would just buy the latest model as it came out and let the chaufer look after. If it went wrong there is always another car in the garage. They do not need someone like Clarkson to tell them what to buy.. There are a lot of men that like to see programmes about cars the same as some like trains or buses. I am not one of those people. It was more to do with Clarkson than the content of the show that put me off it. I liked the other two and never minded the specials where they had to drive across some hazardous terain.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 "Test for guests to see who could go round in circles fastest" On foot? In an office chair?
Collymore Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 Top Gear makes me laugh for all the wrong reasons. Its not clever, how can it be when its all scripted? Even the studio chat is scripted, I don't see the draw... All this shite about the crew being the most talented in the world is bull shit. "Get the boys to convert an old Sierra Saphire into a presidential limousine. It must have bullet proof glass, get jezza to drive it up to the white house front door (TG already cleared 10 min slot with white house officials to allow filming - actors ordered and Obama lookalike available for days filming. End with RPG grenade blowing up car and and President sitting in boxers with burning car around him." There you go, that took me 15 secs. Its so easy when make believe. I'd like to see it turn completely unscripted with factual articles that can still be fun led by talented people who can deliver on the spot.

We should just face the fact that if you put a team of funny people together they can produce a funny show and enjoy it.
Guest MattP Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 It's a good choice as he's a car lover and quite widely liked by the public, having read all of Evans books he's got a really passion for it and I think he will actually be a good host. I still can't help thinking the show will die anyway though, people just don't like new presenters and Clarkson and co simply are the centrepoint of Top Gear. Leave the thread Ken, just leave the thread. Come on, if ever there was a thread for Ken this is it, doesn't matter if he has ever watched Top Gear of not, it's a chance for him to tell us he can't afford a fast car, attack anyone who can and also throw in that he can't stand Jeremy Clarkson. Wet dream stuff. Take a look at the first page in the Copa America thread in General Football, I don't think I've ever seen or heard Ken take an interest in or watch a game of football from South America but as soon as someone said it was £9.99 to watch it he had posted within minutes to tell us all it was out of his price range and he couldn't afford it.

I am not interested in cars per se. To me Clarkson is not a very likable person. I have watched the show a few times and find it a little boring and repetative. The fact that I cannot afford any car fast or not so fast has no bearing on it. Where did I say the Copa cup was too much to pay for? There are a lot of things I sacrifice in order to pay bills. I try to budget so bills are paid first social life comes second. I thought you believed in that. First you say if you didn't spend your money on this and that then you would not need your OAP now you are saying I shoud spend it on things like sport TV packages when I am not likely to get value out of it. "Test for guests to see who could go round in circles fastest" On foot? In an office chair? In cars you silly man. :)The show is about cars not office chairs.

You've missed my point mate, I don't really want anyone to talk about money on here, I'm not bothered what you spend your money on and what you don't, it has no relevance to this forum, you came on and made a daft comment about Top Gear being a show for millionaires who just want to buy fast cars, that's just so far from the truth it's ridiculous and it looked like you again just wanted an excuse to bash anyone who dares spend a bit of money on anything. I know I'm often harsh on you Ken but it's getting to the point where I'm expecting you to comment on every single thread, picking something in it that costs money and then you telling us you can't afford it. If everyone on here did that the ticket threads would be 60 pages long, 55 pages of people telling us they can't afford to go. As for Copa, below. Unfortunately not now in the UK. Premier Sports have picked up the rights fairly recently. £9.99 a month I think. That puts it out the price bracket for me then. I mean why would you reply with that? Peace and Love Ken.
separator Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 Evans has said today that one of the co-presenters will be female. Suzi Perry was on TFI Friday the other day and she wouldn't be too bad, other names mentioned include Jodie Kidd and Claire Balding (no thanks).
MrSpaM Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 Just can't see this working throwing three random people together who barely know each other, think I'll just wait for the inevitable program Clarkson, Hammond and May end up doing instead
Guest Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 Clarkson wasn't just a presenter, he also wrote a large portion of the script (and May and Hammond contributed too for that matter). Will be interesting to see how well written the new series is.
MPH Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 I can see Chris Evans getting a look in to this. Not saying he'd be my choice... but they are going to want someone who is conident in front of the camera. I can imagine them doing something similar to what they did with have i got news for you..... Chris Evans... i dunno... someone like Danny Baker and then a guest presenter every week...
sphericalfox Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 err, I think you'll find I get some props for calling this too.
