MPH Posted 26 March 2015 Posted 26 March 2015 I can see Chris Evans getting a look in to this. Not saying he'd be my choice... but they are going to want someone who is conident in front of the camera. I can imagine them doing something similar to what they did with have i got news for you..... Chris Evans... i dunno... someone like Danny Baker and then a guest presenter every week...

It does seem to have Chris Evans written all over it. I suspect there's going to be a whole lot of development on the programme to reestablish what it's about. Until it finds it's feet. When Top Gear was relaunched before, they were much more focused on the cars and less of the journeys and clowning about. Top Gear isn't going anywhere anytime soon, but it'll take some time whoever presents it, before it finds its audience again.

Love him or hate him, he'll have his cult following to keep the show going whilst it finds its feet again..... And imagine a competition in the show somewhere where someone wins a car each week. .

And imagine a competition in the show somewhere where someone wins a car each week. . Well he'll be an interim methinks, and the format of the show will probably be more loose with other presenters, so that they don't have the issue they've had to face. It wouldn't surprise me if we see a series of younger presenters coming in, perhaps even making a big thing about the revamp. Who knew who the other two before they started on Top Gear?
sphericalfox Posted 26 March 2015 Posted 26 March 2015 Chris Evans has said on his radio show he won't be doing it. That's code for 'show me the monay'
Bellend Sebastian Posted 27 March 2015 Posted 27 March 2015 I dreamed last night that Clarkson gave me a lift, but ran out of petrol. He's even a hopeless div in situations that aren't even real
Jon the Hat Posted 27 March 2015 Posted 27 March 2015 I dreamed last night that Clarkson gave me a lift, but ran out of petrol. He's even a hopeless div in situations that aren't even real Well he clearly is a bit of a knob, but I don't think you could call a guy who is worth about $50M made off his own efforts a bit of a div.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 27 March 2015 Posted 27 March 2015 Well he clearly is a bit of a knob, but I don't think you could call a guy who is worth about $50M made off his own efforts a bit of a div. Well, he's a climate change denier for starters (well certainly was, anyway), and has brought a lot of shit press his way when he could have just gone to the all night garage and got a nice sausage roll. A selective bit of a div, then. This was not the lucid dream I was hoping for
MooseBreath Posted 27 March 2015 Posted 27 March 2015 Seems like he's right to deny climate change given what we now know about how climate data has been being manipulated for years.
Guest MattP Posted 27 March 2015 Posted 27 March 2015 Well, he's a climate change denier for starters (well certainly was, anyway), and has brought a lot of shit press his way when he could have just gone to the all night garage and got a nice sausage roll. Let;s be honest if you were a climate change denier, you certainly wouldn't change to a believer would you given the evidence of the last few years?
leicsmac Posted 27 March 2015 Posted 27 March 2015 Seems like he's right to deny climate change given what we now know about how climate data has been being manipulated for years. Source for this generalisation? Anyone who tries to put definitives on how the climate is going to change in the future is a liar or has an agenda either way anyhow - the only reliable statistic is that CO2 levels are rising sharply over the last couple of hundred years. How much mankind has to do with that, and what changes it will lead to, is pure speculation as we don't have enough data over a geological timescale to predict in any direction. All we know is that some kind of change is going to come at some point and whether that's part of a natural cycle, fuelled by human activity, or a mixture of both, is something we don't have the data to predict. Let;s be honest if you were a climate change denier, you certainly wouldn't change to a believer would you given the evidence of the last few years? There is no such thing as climate change 'denial'. The climate changes - always has, always will. On a global scale, the entirety of recorded civilisation has taken place in a relatively warm interglacial period in between two much longer glacial ones. At some point, regardless of human activity, there will be another switch and lots of things will freeze up again. Probably at some point in the next ten millenia. The argument seems to be over the degree that humans are contributing to all of this...which is all totally speculative due to (as I said above) a lack of data over a geological timescale. It's a moot discussion anyway - when the shit hits the fan it's not really going to matter who threw it, is it?
Jon the Hat Posted 27 March 2015 Posted 27 March 2015 No one denies climate change. Also no one has proof people are causing it. Clarkson has faith that the ingenuity of mankind will overcome whatever the climate throws at us, and I am inclined to agree.

Clarkson has faith that the ingenuity of mankind will overcome whatever the climate throws at us, and I am inclined to agree. I'm more of the opinion that an Endgame (by Chris Wooding) scenario pans out whereby bigger countries invade the smaller ones around the Equator when things start to get drastically colder resulting in nuclear holocaust. But what can I say? I'm a cheery fvcker who believes in humanity.
MooseBreath Posted 27 March 2015 Posted 27 March 2015 Source for this generalisation? Just Google it. No shortage of discussion on the subject. Assumptions were made about the temperature of unknown regions over decades which conveniently changed the known trend of minor cooling into one of significant warming. The entire issue is based on guesswork at best, at worst blatant manipulation. I don't know how anyone can believe a word these climate scientists say anymore. I certainly don't.

Clarkson has faith that the ingenuity of mankind will overcome whatever the climate throws at us, and I am inclined to agree.I think that man will overcome it in the long run, in the short run it is the poor and vulnerable that will suffer the most. As I see regularly in Africa. The seasons are becoming less predictable for many smallholders who do not have the assets, funding or coping mechanisms to be able to deal with these changes in the short to medium term.

Yet so many people despite that seem to be already prepared to absolutely berate and vilify anyone who dares offer an opinion different to the mainstream. Following from the Homosexual thread the use of wording has again been brilliant from those who seek to shutdown and destroy any opposition or argument to their viewpoint - 'Climate Change Denier' - what a great buzzword when you think about it the last one is, totally deliberate in trying to lower the one it's being thrown at alongside the Holocaust deniers.
Bettsj2 Posted 27 March 2015 Posted 27 March 2015 How about Jamiroquai as a host? He can do a turn at the end of each show. New direction and all that.
Merging Cultures Posted 27 March 2015 Posted 27 March 2015 New direction and all that. I think that band is falling apart. They wouldn't be any good for the show.

leicsmac Posted 28 March 2015 Posted 28 March 2015 Just Google it. No shortage of discussion on the subject. The entire issue is based on guesswork at best, at worst blatant manipulation. I don't know how anyone can believe a word these climate scientists say anymore. I certainly don't. But of a strawman there. One data set misinterpreted and then jumped on by the media and interest groups either way does not represent the views of all climate scientists. Science is - or should be - apolitical. It's only because there's a lot of money involved in this particular issue that the whole thing has become a political football, which is a shame. Like I said, eventually the climate is going to change drastically with or without our input, and we really should be preparing for that, not arguing about who or what is responsible.
