Kevin Phillips

Swansea had an offer of 500k accepted for Counago before the player decided against a move, that's not a bad price for him IMO!!

He is 29 so got more years in him, but not really proven too much.

I rate him though.

If you have a few Championship players around the team I think it allows you to play players with less experience. Assuming someone like Reid did sign, he'd probably play with Howard - so I think it would balance out. Phillips is a great finisher, but he's loacking pace - now anyway. Like someone else said, Howard and Phillips is a bad combination.

Maybe the Reid news is untrue, but that is the kind of player we need. His finishing is top quality, although it's a gamble, like always.

can we stop this kevin phillips rubbish and have a Reuben Reid thread instead?

Can someone do that youtube best of Reid thing thanks want to see what the kid is about...hes won me move over already Reuben Reid is a cool name.

Bargain of the season. £750 for someone who will get at least 20 goals is a big big yes for me. Despite his age.

If his wages are not as much as they are being rumoured then I would love him at the Walkers.

I'd rather we didn't gamble though. Not this season. Pace doesn't really mean anything if you don't know how to use it, and I doubt Phillips instinctive finishing and positional play would be rivalled in the Championship.

Unless we could get Reid for around 500K, max, I wouldn't bother chasing him. We haven't even been linked tbh, apart from one "My uncle works at the training ground and....." rumour.

Phillips is quality, but I'd rather gamble on Reid. All this talk is unsubstantiated, anyway. But we all know the Phillips rumour is lazy journalism on the Daily Star's end. It won't happen... not that I think Reid will either, but just that he fits what the team needs a little better.

Posted
He's right, all this Phillips talk is pointless. He's staying with Birmingham, he wants to play in the Premier League, he's getting paid more at Birmingham than he will at Leicester. There is no incentive for him to want to come to Leicester. None at all. All this is from lazy journalism. Where was this rumour started? Daily Star? I rest my case.

In theory on a free transfer, yes. In reality - it's not going to happen.

Are Birmingham not going to strengthen what they have up top then? The reason he left West Brom, a Premier League side, to go to Brum in the first place was because they couldn't guarantee him playing time, not because of wages.

If he won't get games in the PL, that's a reason for a move in itself.

I thought he left West Brom for other reasons, but I don't claim to know much about Phillips's career outside of goals.

Alright, it's not impossible - I just think he's more likely to stay at Birmingham. Do think Phillips and Howard would be the main duo, or Fryatt and Phillips? I just don't feel it would work, although I could be wrong about it.

Just had a check, it was because West Brom offered him a one year contract when they got promotion instead of a two year one. My mistake. Still showed they didn't value him enough though.

I think he'd be great at that price too. But i think the quoted price was more than that :P

Agreed. Some people on here seem to think we should be aiming for promotion.

Even if we were, I think it could be a bad step as we need time and continuity first in the Championship.

Hence the reason, why Phillips would give us probably 2 years good service.

Every team will be aiming for promotion because any team can beat any other team in the Championship.

As much as I rate Reid (suggested in the old "Wishlist" thread), if it was a choice between him, an unproven quantity in the Championship, or Kevin Phillips, to fire us to safety next season, I know which one I'd choose.

Good, experienced Championship players are what we need to establish ourselves in this division before we start thinking about the future.

Exactly, I for one second don't want promotion next season (I'll take it if it happens, but don't want to go up yet - It will be a couple of seasons too early, and if we went up it could really damage us and undo all the good work that started last year) but how do most teams get out of this league? Experienced, Older players, You don't often see a team with a very young average age get promoted from the Championship.

Exactly, that was Mowbray's problem (he was manager then wasn't he?), if they had kept Phillips they might have got enough points too survive, or at least not finish bottom. He was the type of forward they were lacking last year. Plus, in the last 5 years, hasn't Phillips stayed in Birmingham? Seems like he's settled, seriously doubt there's any truth in it. Every Leicester rumour The Daily Star has reported usually turns out to be untrue.

Seems he is settled as he played for Villa before WBA and Brum. But in terms of distance I am sure he would rather move to us just up the road rather than somewhere else.

Why does everyone think Kevin Phillips guarantees 20 goals a season? I cannot believe how many people think this would be a great signing after all the flak Micky Adams copped for creating a dad's army effect, how fickle do people want to be.

Wouldn't take on Phillips at ANY price.

In case people have forgotten he plays for a club that conned us out of £2.5m a couple of seasons ago. Look how successful Clemence and Campbell were for Brum, and how unsuccessful they have been for us.

I also find it interesting that Campbell is (rightly) slated for telling Sky he doesn't want to play for us, yet comments made by Phillips to the same source amounting to the same thing are conveniently overlooked.

Phillips is becoming more injury-prone in the twilight of his career. He could very easily end up as a Dickov mark 2, living off past glories but on inflated wages.

It would be far better to invest in a younger, quicker, hungrier prospect from the lower leagues.

I'd be over the fucking moon if we managed to get rid of Paul Dickov, absolutely ecstatic.

We all know he's going no where, unfortunately.

You and your ilk are a pathetic disgace. When Paul was younger, he did more than most for City. Short memories haven't you? So the guy is over the hill, but that comes to us all. What have you got to brag about you pathetic little slob, and all your fellow brain dead cronies?

All you lot do is sit on your fat arses and criticise, and have no respect for what the older guys have done in this game.

Go and look yourselves in the mirror when your older, and see what you have done, you bunch of nobodies.

Dickov did well for us in his first spell, particularly in getting us promoted during a very traumatic 02-03 season.

But that doesn't excuse him coming back to us (especially given the way in which he left) and asking us to top up his pension.

The guy is literally not fit enough to wear the shirt for us any more. Simple as.

Don't care about his age, he'll score enough goals to ensure survival and that's surely worth his asking price?

Would be over the moon with this.

What did I say? Yet another cretin who is happy to survive in the Championship.

How pathetic can our support get?

Q.E.D.''''' Our so called supporters, are rapidly becoming the laughing stock of football. Well, I am not laughing you bunch of adolecant pillocks!

I think Dickov was up for it until he got that back injury. I thought he would retire and in some ways he should probably have done.

I will never hate Dickov or be against him as he is one of my all time favourite players but he should never really have come back.

I won't remember him for this season but from 2002-04, thats when the real Dickov was around.

He did win the corner vs. Leeds though!

This is bang on the nail. I would only take Phillips on a free, and on larger lowered wages, which is a no go.

My money goes towards his wages, He's now shit, I'll slag him off.
