Samilktray Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 If we were spending 750k I would much rather put that towards a youngster who is a good prospect for the future, rather than spending it on somebody who will last no more than 2 years coming of the bench and will have no sell on value. So would I. I like the look of that Jackson kid.
ob1kanobe0 Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 Scored 14 goals in 24 starts last yeat, good player, but 750,000 sounds alot for a 35 year old. Have you still got that paper, cause ive got some chips Mind you, Philips on a free would be good.
lcfc84 Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 well i've just spoke to my mate, who supplies the training equipment for city and he reckons he asked about lita and he said it was no go and the player they have bid for is reuben reid! i dont know who he asked but he spends alot of time down there with the coaches! he is gonna ring me later so ill ask him more later.
Nick Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 .... "We aren't going to attract the likes of Cox, Evans or anyone of real class really" .... That is so true.By reading many of the posts on here, it seems that people will be content just to see us as a non- Premiership outfit. Of course people want to get to the Premiership, but 'contentment' has to be balanced with a degree of realism which you do not seem to possess. If we finish upper mid table next season I say now I will be content, we have a young side which are winning games and developing. Did you see the opposition we played against last season? We won games but to have lost some of them against the shambles of the teams we played against would have been self-harm viewing. It would be a miracle if we made the playoffs and I would be as happy as any Leicester fan but to ask for Mandaric out and wanting millions spent on strikers is unreasonable and idealistic and to be honest a bit silly. N.
Nick Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reuben_Reid (not excited) But in NP we trust and all that.......
Tilley Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 I'd rather sign a 20 year old Reuben Reid than a 36 year old Kevin Phillips.
Nick Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 I'd rather sign a 20 year old Reuben Reid than a 36 year old Kevin Phillips. I'd need a lot more information prior to making that call. I see your point though.
Mark Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 Definitely take Phillips for a season (although we would give him a 2 year contract <_< ) + someone like Lita if we could offload Dickov and Campbell.
Matt Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 Definitely take Phillips for a season (although we would give him a 2 year contract <_< ) + someone like Lita if we could offload Dickov and Campbell. This. I feel we need to offload Dickov and DJ before we sign any striker.
Tilley Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 I'd be over the fucking moon if we managed to get rid of Paul Dickov, absolutely ecstatic. We all know he's going no where, unfortunately.
ob1kanobe0 Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 Reuben Reid is 21 today, so lets wait till he's over today's hangover shal we
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 Don't care about his age, he'll score enough goals to ensure survival and that's surely worth his asking price? Would be over the moon with this.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 I would be more than happy if we got Philips. Proven goalscorer despite his age, and he never lost that bit of class he always had. Not sure about 750k though.
C-man Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 Don't care about his age, he'll score enough goals to ensure survival and that's surely worth his asking price?Would be over the moon with this. Exactly. If we need to sign someone that will do the business for a year or two, we should. Not every player we sign needs to be a 'hot prospect'. This season MUST be about consolidation and not going over the top with our expectations. A steady improvement year on year for the next two or three seasons is critical if we ever want to see our side become a Premiership team again.

Some people on here seem to think we should be aiming for promotion. Even if we were, I think it could be a bad step as we need time and continuity first in the Championship. Hence the reason, why Phillips would give us probably 2 years good service.
flanimal Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 I tell you what, Reuben Reid would be an awesome purchase. Really fast, very strong - and if you check out the goals he scores they are striker's goals you know, clinical, instinctive - not just tap ins and stuff, but quality finishes. If he's 21 years old, he would be a great inclusion - basically everything we need. Probably wouldn't be cheap though, if that guy is right about Reid, that's awesome!

Just sounds alot of cash for a 36 year old but will prob still get 10 - 20 goals in the championship. Phillips and a younger striker would be ideal.

He got 16 for Brum finishing their top goal scorer despite him never starting too many games.

As much as I rate Reid (suggested in the old "Wishlist" thread), if it was a choice between him, an unproven quantity in the Championship, or Kevin Phillips, to fire us to safety next season, I know which one I'd choose. Good, experienced Championship players are what we need to establish ourselves in this division before we start thinking about the future.
Lester LXXIV Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 Swansea had an offer of 500k accepted for Counago before the player decided against a move, that's not a bad price for him IMO!!
