Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 Great! Here we have the classic donkey, who knows sweet f.a. about football intelligence. It didn't take long for the first brain dead idiot to come forth, did it.? If N.P. keeps him here, what is he supposed to do? He can only do his best. So, in a nutshell, you total shite hole, blame the manager, not the player. Perhaps you can't understand English. You big asshole, then Nigel big asshole, you asshole. In other words HEE HAW OFF! I have no idea what you're going on about. That isn't even a repsonse to anything I've put. What a cum gullet. MTWG you big ASSHOLEEEEEE!!!!
Ultra Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 Dublin, Keown, Hignett, Dickov (2nd time), Hayles, N'Gotty, Pressman, the list goes on and on... Carl Cort. Nathan Blake.. And the one with the best pedigree of all...the one who couldn't possibly fail for us (but did) - D****s W**e..
Edmund Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 We've just got promoted, we've spent £1.2million (or rising to) on one of the best midfielders in the division last year, we've signed a great young prospect from the Big 4, we've signed the captain of an SPL side...Simon Cox is not a "bargain" at £2million. Ched Evans is certainly not a "bargain" at £3million. We haven't sold anyone this summer, yet people expect us to spend millions and millions. Would Sheffield United have been able to sign Ched Evans without selling Naughton and Walker? Would WBA have signed Cox without the parachute money? Would you prefer to be like Coventry, selling off all our best young players and not seeming to do anything about replacing them yet? We have the basis of a good squad for this division, we just need to add another striker or two. That's not the end of the world, it's a pretty bloody good position to be in actually. Great post. Nice to read a bit of optimism for once. Hope you are successful with the sky blog definitely deserve it.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 What does playing well in 02/03 have to do with winning promotion in 09/10?! He is not the player he was 7 years ago and now is long past his prime; ship him out asap, or get him to take on a coaching/mentoring role, ala Chrissy 'Hero' Powell. Yes, we have to be loyal to our players, but ultimately we pay our players to win matches - Paul Dickov won't win us matches anymore. Its cruel, but you've gotta face the facts.Ps. are you Paul Dickov? No, I'm not Paul Dickov! I am not saying he is any sort of player now, and I did state he was over the hill. Is it his fault that N.P. brought him here, and is it his fault if he is picked to play?
teblin Posted 27 July 2009 Author Posted 27 July 2009 Dublin, Keown, Hignett, Dickov (2nd time), Hayles, N'Gotty, Pressman, the list goes on and on... You can do the same for younger players too. Elvis hammond, Josh low, Trevor benjamin, Joe Hammil, Peter Canero, Jon Hayes I'm sure there are ones i have missed. It just proves that all signings are a risk. Old or young. The 750,000 sounds alot to me but if he scored 20 goals it wouldn't be, and if we have some one scoring that many goals we'll be there or there abouts as i think the defence should be pretty solid.
Nick Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 No, I'm not Paul Dickov!I am not saying he is any sort of player now, and I did state he was over the hill. Is it his fault that N.P. brought him here, and is it his fault if he is picked to play? I am now bored of the absolute crap you have been posting in this thread.

Jiggers the Fox Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 just seen on sky sports news that the source for the kevin philips rumour was the daily mirror, although not sure how much more reliable this makes it!!

Is it his fault that N.P. brought him here, and is it his fault if he is picked to play? He had an offer from an MLS club, He could have fooked off to America.
Matt Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 The story from the Daily Mirror, Doesn't add much to what we already know/have read. Leicester are preparing a £750,000 bid for Birmingham striker Kevin Phillips.Foxes boss Nigel Pearson wants golden-oldie Phillips (above) to help fire a promotion push from the Championship. Former England star Phillips, 36, was Birmingham's top goalscorer last season with 13 strikes, but he was unhappy at Alex McLeish's squad rotation policy.
Nick Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 We were the first to get promoted and the last to get quality strikers. PATHETIC!N,P. take note. You are no God, like some supporters seem to think. Promotion within the next three years. HA! HA! HA! 1 ; You have no coherent arguments. You are here only to antagonise. You do not respond to intelligent critiques of your non-sensical posts. Your opinions are aggressive and put over in a manner that is not appropriate. You have now achieved DB11 status and have been put on block. Well done. Quite an achievement. People on this site think you are foolish. I am but one of them. N.
James. Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 You have now achieved DB11 status and have been put on block. DB11 isn't as bad anymore. In fact if I was DB11 I'd be offended about being on the same list as the Tiger (grrr).

Ok that's a fair point and maybe I shall open a few of his posts and see if the guy deserves a break. Thanks for the heads up. Grrrr. *Nick makes dangerous paw gestures with his hands whilst grr'ing all scary like*
dandannieldanok Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 Still see no-one has come up with an answer as to why they think Kevin Phillips would guarantee 15/20 goals a season.
CosbehFox Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 Still see no-one has come up with an answer as to why they think Kevin Phillips would guarantee 15/20 goals a season. You could ask the question of any striker at the start of the season. In fact, we thought it with Fryatt on the eve of last season and current. His record at least proves at this level he's a regular and consistent goalscorer. The same couldn't be said of Cox, Lambert, Reid or Jackson.
James. Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 Still see no-one has come up with an answer as to why they think Kevin Phillips would guarantee 15/20 goals a season. It's not rocket science is it? I wouldn't go as far to say he would guarantee 15-20 goals but if you look at his career stats he averages a goal every 2.12 games, most of which have been at Championship standard or higher. So it doesn't seem unreasonable to assume that he would be relatively prolific if he joined us. Yeah I know he's old and 750k sounds a lot but if he does score well for 2 seasons then it's money well spent. Don't really see why you're SO against the idea...
Joe. Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 Still see no-one has come up with an answer as to why they think Kevin Phillips would guarantee 15/20 goals a season. 08/09 - Championship - 14 Goals 07/08 - Championship - 24 goals 06/07 - Championship - 22 goals 04/05 - Premiership - 13 goals Bar one season with Aston Villa in the Premiership, I'd say that's not bad going...
Nick Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 Still see no-one has come up with an answer as to why they think Kevin Phillips would guarantee 15/20 goals a season. You're not gauranteed that really by any striker in all honesty but he got 13 last year with very limited starts - he's not been particularly injury prone in his career that I can re-call and his past 4 seasons in the Championship have been pretty fair. I agree he's not the answer to all problems but he will score goals and I think would be good to have around the place. The alternatives are not vast, the clock continues to tick and I am not anti him coming, the price though could be reduced significantly but in terms of his ability I am willing to bet if we sign him and he gets time on the pitch he scores a minimum of 10 this season. Maximum it wouldn't surprise me if he got 16. He will do what Dickov is struggling to do and come in as sub and for cover due to injury and still do a job. N.
markbsac Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 lambert sits there at bristol rovers looking like h will not get the chance to mave onto a bigger club ! milan pick the phone up and ring rovers and get the lad at the walkers !
teblin Posted 27 July 2009 Author Posted 27 July 2009 Still see no-one has come up with an answer as to why they think Kevin Phillips would guarantee 15/20 goals a season. We could sign any player in the world at not be able to guarantee that. They could get injured after 2 minutes. A fully fit phillips will scored goals in the championship.
dandannieldanok Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 The main reasons I'm against this are: 1) His quoted price which is huge for a 36 year old at this level. Also not forgetting his £10,000 + wages. 2) Age. He's 36, players rapidly decline at around this age, just look at Dickov. Injuries take longer to heal and could be career threatening. 3) No pace. Apart from Ashley Chambers who won't play unless we're desperate and N'Guessan who isn't a proper striker, our strikeforce is the slowest in the league, paying 3/4 million on another slow player doesn't inspire. 4) Last seasons goals. Not a bad return but not brilliant either in a team which created a lot of chances. We won't be creating as much as Brum did. 5) Motivation. Links to his wages, would he really be that bothered about being successful or more bothered about contract security. Just look at his refusal of West Brom in the prem over Brum in the championship because of contracts.

The whole pace thing, i think we need an option of pace but Phillips has class and his movement will give him space. Elvis hammond was fast couldn't hit a donkey arse with a banjo. I think we need some pace up top but maybe its going to be n'guessen that provides that.

It's a big burden to place upon N'Guessan to make him our pace man up front given that it would be his first season in the championship and he's a winger. I for one would be very disappointed if come Swansea we hadn't signed a striker with pace. We got away with it last year having little pace up top, but we'll struggle without some this year.
