Tomassi Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 Many of you probably not heard of him, but Adam Johnson from Middlesborough would be an outstanding signing and cheap (well cheaper than alternatives)! I rate this lad highly and cannot believe no-ones been in for him! With still being young and still a lot to learn he could turn into a world class player! Better than Babel, but Babel hasnt been given a regular run... As for Gerrard playing of Torres, i totally disagree, yes they link up well due to team tactics, but if you actually watch Gerrard for a full 90 minutes live, you would see that his range and accuracy of passing is absolutely astonishing, and is up their with the top midfielders in the world, not just the premiership. Alonso is also very good, but with Gerrard and Mascherano with him, it means Alonso doesnt have to perform his major weakness as much, which is his tackling.

Gerrard does play off Torres and everyone can see that. The formation is for Gerrard to help more in attack than defend, that's why since Torres has been at Anfield Gerrard has blasted in 20+ goals a season, where before he struggled to reach the 20. I have seen Gerrard live on numerous occasions since Torres has been at Liverpool and can safely say he does play off Torres.
Cobbo Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 Cattermole is pur filth. But a good player. He is completely different to Alonso though. Alonso's a ball player, Cattermole is a thug.
Tomassi Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 Im only going on from what ive seen live at the ground (twice) where you can study each players movements more meticulously, TV doesnt do him justice. Gerrard is very clever in his role, He supports Torres when he can, but doesnt play off him. If he did, it would mean Gerrard would stay in the opposition half all game, exposing Alonso, which he doesnt. Gerrard links up with Torres, doesnt play off him, big difference. But everyones opinion is different

davieG Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Move to Real Madrid agreed according to Sky Circa £30mill cost £10.5 mill
Uncle Albert Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Liverpool getting £30.5 million for possibly their 3rd best midfielder? Nice business. Been there for 5 years, been succesful and will leave knowing that he has become a brilliant player and played in the best league in the world. Good luck to him.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Aquilani would be a great little player for Liverpool.
purpleronnie Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Alonso is a brilliant player can't wait to watch him playing in the best league in the world.
Hitesh Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 I wonder how much of the money Rafa will get to spend? He will need to act soonish as well to get someone in before the start of the season and get settled.
Unabomber Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Alonso is a brilliant player can't wait to watch him playing in the best league in the world. Looks like he is going to La Liga unfortunately mate.
martyn Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Good player though he is, Aquilani spends half his time injured. The bastion of truth SSN were claiming Liverpool are chasing Christian Poulsen. Very average player.

Uncle Albert Posted 5 August 2009 Posted 5 August 2009 Looks like Liverpool have replaced Xabi Alonso pretty quickly as they have agreed a price for Aqualani from Roma Sky Sports is saying, must be about £18 million. Not going to be as good as Alonso yet but he looks a decent little player from what I have seen from him. Thoughts?

Not going to be as good as Alonso yet but he looks a decent little player from what I have seen from him. Thoughts? Meh, unproven in the Prem. Could take a while to settle. Personally, I don't think Liverpool will win the Prem anyway, with or without Alonso. Aquilani can't be that good as Roma seem to be letting him go without any fuss.

purpleronnie Posted 5 August 2009 Posted 5 August 2009 Class player in my opinion but its always hard to judge Serie A has such a completely different style of play than the Prem.
Ultra Posted 5 August 2009 Posted 5 August 2009 Aquilani will take a while to settle in England. Alonso did, and that was with a Spanish manager.
Hitesh Posted 5 August 2009 Posted 5 August 2009 Aquilani will take a while to settle in England.Alonso did, and that was with a Spanish manager. True. It's the same for many players that come from Italy in particular as they take a while to adjust to the pace of the PL. The tempo is much slower over there and he will struggle more so as he has missed the pre season with Liverpool too!
C-man Posted 5 August 2009 Posted 5 August 2009 £30million? I thought he was overpriced when they were quoting around £16m last season. He's a great player but this deal makes Kaka look like a bargain.
SystonFox Posted 5 August 2009 Posted 5 August 2009 do italian players cut it in the prem these days? cant actually think of any successful ones in the last 4-5 years off the top of my head, mid to late 90's you had your Zolas, Di Matteo, Vialli and Ravenelli but since them boys did a job who stepped up to the prem plate for Italia? 30million is good pricing for Alonso.
