Hitesh Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 From BBC Fit-again Fryatt is raring to go Fryatt joined Leicester from Walsall in January 2006 Leicester City striker Matt Fryatt is winning his fitness battle and insists he can play a part in the first game of the season against Swansea on Saturday. He missed much of pre-season because of a hernia operation and leg infection. But the Fryatt came off the bench to score the winner in Saturday's 1-0 friendly victory over Real Valladolid. "Hopefully there will be no side effects, I can get a week's training under my belt and take it from there," Fryatt told BBC Radio Leicester. "I'm delighted. I felt good and it's good to get a few minutes. It feels like the operation has been a good one." Fryatt, who scored 32 goals as Nigel Pearson's side marched to the League One title last season, admitted missing out on the pre-season fitness work is a big blow. "I always feel you need games in pre-season. You can do all the fitness, all the runs but you need match fitness and I was glad to get out there. "I'm a lot of games behind other players. I've only played 30 minutes.". But despite his concerns, Fryatt, 23, has every confidence the first season back in the Championship can be a success - both for him and for the club. "I first came here when I was 19 and struck up a good partnership with Iain Hume (in the Championship). I scored some crucial goals and kept us in the league," he said. "Then the following season there were injuries and disappointment and the season after we got relegated (from the Championship) and it wasn't a great season. "I've put my hands up and said that before - it keeps on being dragged up but that's gone. "I'm fed up with it but if I keep on playing the way I'm capable of doing and carry on the form from last year I'm sure the season will be good and the team will fare well. "We've looked good we've had a few wins in pre-season and I'm sure we will be up and running for the opening game." Some positive words there from Fryatt. I really hope he can be big this season and given the service he can score the goals we need.
Daggers Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Can he be big this season? Depends on whether he hits the burger stand again.
Guest Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 He's going to be MASSIVE this season I tell you, MASSIVE!!
JoeyB Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 He will do well this season people can slate him all they want, but i think he will do well. He's much fitter and sharper than he previosly was and the lad now how has confidence which will be a major boost for him and the rest of the club.
Bilo Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 He will do well this season people can slate him all they want, but i think he will do well. He's much fitter and sharper than he previosly was and the lad now how has confidence which will be a major boost for him and the rest of the club. Definitely the best prepared he's ever been for the Championship in terms of fitness and confidence after a great season in League One and we're playing the kind of football that suits his game. He could well have a big season if he hits the ground running. On the other hand, you could say that he fails this season he isn't likely ever to make the grade.
Corky Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 He's going into a season on the back of a successful one, so I think we'll see a different player to the one last season we saw at this level.
haraven Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 I am skeptical to the whole "raring to go" announcements... they give me bad memories to the 2007/2008-season, there has never been in the history of Leicester City since 1884 such a huge number of headlines and announcments that so and so was "raring to go" ... if a "time to stand up and be counted" headline comes out, we are in deep trouble.
Pst Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 I really hope he does well this season. If he can stay fit, I do believe he could score the goals to keep us safe.
peterborofox Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 I think he can do well. Needs to keep fit and get the same service as last year and he will do fine.

Yeah, i feel exactly the same, this season will be a huge season for him, it will prove his doubters or his wrong if he gets 15+ goals this season. But to be honest im not fussed if Fryatt dosen't score lots of goals this season. If Fryatt scored 10 goals, and Howard, Wellends, King, Dyer Etc all chipped it will enough goals themself we will be alright!
Dames Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Anything less than 10 league goals this year means he's not cut out for this level of football.
Fox92 Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 I have the confidence in him. He has a manger who has confidence in him. He has scored 30+ goals in the league below, so he has confidence. He has a good partner in Howard. There is no doubt he can score the goals for Leicester with the right distribution he should be key to our season. The previous seasons he had a manager that didn't play him, so no confidence sureley which showed on the pitch. Now, with confidence HOPEFULLY he will be the player of last season.
peterborofox Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Anything less than 10 league goals this year means he's not cut out for this level of football. I agree unless he gets injured, but that would be typical really.
Bryn Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 I've got faith that he just needs fitness and confidence to do well at this level.
Nick Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 I've got faith that he just needs fitness and confidence to do well at this level. If he gets anymore than 10 - 12 goals I'll be impressed, I'll bet he wins us 5 penalties this season though.
flanimal Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Got a feeling Fryatt will surprise everyone this season, do a lot better than anyone expects!
Head Honcho Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 He can but probably won't. Under 15 goals Very average. 15-20 Goals Not bad. 20+ Goals £5 million off of Birmingham next season if we don't go up.
Sniffer-Clarke Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 There a lot more fans on here more optimistic than i am,imo he will not have the pace for this division and neither is SH so for pace it looks like we are going to have to rely on the DJ.I do honestly believe this season is going to be a testing time for all from the players to NP his staff and the loanee ranager also the fans but i hope i am proved wrong.
Matt Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 I hope he does well, I really do, He does well = Leicester are likely to be doing well, Although previous seasons of Fryatt in the Championship worry me and tell a different story, but as people have pointed out, he is up on confidence from last season, hopefully will stay fit throughout the season, has different players around him, and will hopefully be getting better service so hopefully he will prove me wrong, but i'm not going to lie I have my doubts and worrys about him.
Guest ttfn Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 It is important to remember that he is only 23 and previous seasons were all in the 19-21 age group. Whilst that may not be a hindrance to certain players, it may well have been to Fryatt. Even if he doesn't set the world alight this season, I wouldn't write him off. We all saw what he was capable of last season. It wasn't just that he scored 32 goals, it was that he scored 3 or 4 goals that would have graced any level: Cheltenham away Dag and Red (first) home MK Dons away He scored the majority of his goals against teams in the top half, not to mention the amount of crucial goals AND assists he picked up - just think about the goals against Bristol Rovers at home, the 2 against MK to get our season off and running, and of course the 2 away at Southend to finish the job. I may be mistaken but was he not our top assist provider last season as well? His coolness in the final 3rd, combined with his new found confidence, will be crucial in propelling us forward and it is absolutely vital that the crowd don't get on his back. It's remarkable that he appeared to be more popular when he was actually misfiring than when he was scoring!
clazkel Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 I have faith in Fryatt, and think he will do well. Ive put a fiver on him to be top scorer @ 20/1
willchafer Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 fryatt will have a good season not amazing but good none the less, he is confident in front of goals now as he proved last season and is showing more attacking skill. the only thing i will say is he needs to be stronger because he still wastes oppurtunities by falling over too easily.
ob1kanobe0 Posted 5 August 2009 Posted 5 August 2009 From BBCSome positive words there from Fryatt. I really hope he can be big this season and given the service he can score the goals we need. Looks like he'll be sub for saturday. He may even come on at half time.
Sniffer-Clarke Posted 5 August 2009 Posted 5 August 2009 I have faith in Fryatt, and think he will do well. Ive put a fiver on him to be top scorer @ 20/1 I am assuming you mean at leicester if thats the case he does not have a lot of competition.
