sdb Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 This won't go down well but anyone else feel Mascherano is one of the most overrated players on the planet?? Holding midfielders have gone from being the underrated part of a team to being massively over-played, and JM is really gaining from this. He spends 90 mins (if the game includes a ref happy to take much verbal abuse) kicking opposition players, giving away free kicks and passing sideways, rarely venturing forward (probably fair enough in his position). And people hold him in the highest regard. I really don't get it.
Fox You Forest Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 I think he's a decent player, perhaps playing next to Lucas makes him look a world beater.
The Doctor Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 I think he's a decent player, perhaps playing next to Lucas makes him look a world beater. tbh if you played DJ or Dickov next to lucas they'd look quality. how lucas is able to hold down a place at liverpool i don't understand, it's not like they're any good now but they're still too good for him.

Gives away quite a few fouls and that, but he is certainly one of the best in the world at what he does.
stivesfox Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 I thought pretty good the Roberto Mancini mentioned Leicester City, nice to know he came and not forgot us, though he mentioned Lil in his interview. Leicester brief but not forgotten
Uncle Albert Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 But when Yaya Toure does what Mascherano does he is a world class player? Mascherano is brilliant, if you actually watch him properly then you will see the amount of distance he covers over 90 minutes in breaking the play up and simply passing the ball 5 yards all he is there to do. Keane and Vieira made their careers off this, well maybe not so much Vieira. No Father Ted that wasnt me making an excuse because Liverpool were bloody awful but the Ref's performance was just as bad, if Michael Brown and Ben-Haim hadnt made such a meal of it then he wouldnt of been sent off. Watch Ben-Haim after the tackle he gets up has a scuffle with Dirk Kuyt then he decides to go back on the ground in pain.
lildave3 Posted 23 December 2009 Posted 23 December 2009 Michael Turner has been given a 4 match ban, 3 for the elbow and 1 for wasting the FA's time... Ridiculous.
Uncle Albert Posted 23 December 2009 Posted 23 December 2009 Michael Turner has been given a 4 match ban, 3 for the elbow and 1 for wasting the FA's time...Ridiculous. I don't know how Mascherano picked up a 4 match ban aswell.
Jimothy Posted 23 December 2009 Posted 23 December 2009 I don't know how Mascherano picked up a 4 match ban aswell. Haha Mascherano picked up a 4 match ban because it's his second sending off this season. They did what they've done to Turner to Mascherano last season though. It's a stupid rule. Clubs don't appeal unless they are pretty sure they've been hard done by, so all this wasting the FA's time is bollocks. So not only does the poor blocke suffer by missing 3 games when he shouldn't have been sent off, he gets an extra on because the FA are so adamant that their card happy refs are right on everything. The FA have to be the worst governing body of any sport in the world. It made me laugh when the other week Mark Hughes was asked to explain comments made about Mark Clattenburg, because Clattenburg had commented on which Man City players he didn't like, and then went on to send off Bellamy. How about asking Clattenburg to explain himself. These are quite serious allergations, and as far as I'm aware he's never been asked about, nor has it been investigated further. Bloody useless.
Darkzzz_ Posted 23 December 2009 Posted 23 December 2009 I really like Mascherano as he is a work horse and breaks play up well. Liverpool haven't got the best out of him yet and if he stays I am sure they will.

Uncle Albert Posted 23 December 2009 Posted 23 December 2009 Ah that explains it then, Liverpool had a brilliant disciplinary the last couple of seasons until this year, when Mascherano got sent off against United for being a dick to Bennett at Old Trafford then the next red car for Liverpool was when Mascherano got sent off against United this season for his silly tackle on Van Der Sar. Since then Carragher, Degen and Mascherano have all been sent off, show's what type of season Liverpool are having. I really like Mascherano as he is a work horse and breaks play up well. Liverpool haven't got the best out of him yet and if he stays I am sure they will. In the 07/08 season the one where he got sent off against United at Old Trafford he was absolutely quality, Liverpool certainly got the best out of him that year, I remember well because alot of people in the media and other managers were raving about him going into the United game and then he got sent off. Last season he was good but Xabi Alonso's brilliant overshadowed him a little bit and this season I think Mascherano is abit more concerned in Lucas' abilities so Javier is doing much more than he would have to when he had Xabi, hopefully this will change when Il Principino starts matches.
MikeyT Posted 26 December 2009 Posted 26 December 2009 Currently watching the Birmingham V Chelsea game. Pretty good first half. End to end stuff. Still 0-0 though. Possibly shouldn't be. Should be a good second half if the first is anything to go by.
Ultra Posted 27 December 2009 Posted 27 December 2009 It shouldn't have been 0-0. There was nothing wrong with Benitez's goal - except in the mind of a brain-dead linesman who thought he was offside. Even more shameful was the behaviour of the Liverpool players to get Stephen Ward sent off. First of all Lucas went down as if hit by a steamroller and then Reina ran the length of the pitch to harangue the linesman. But it seems that, like much of last season, the only way the scousers can win is if they're playing with 10 men..
Corky Posted 27 December 2009 Posted 27 December 2009 I'm not a fan of Birmingham at all, but you've got to praise McLeish for what he's done this season. Very resilient, not pretty but effective. Big win for West Ham.
sdb Posted 27 December 2009 Posted 27 December 2009 If anyone finds a good link for the arse-villa game could they post it here please? Desperate to watch but family have come round at the last min. grrr

MikeyT Posted 27 December 2009 Posted 27 December 2009 Arsenal currently 2-0 up at home to Villa. Fabregas with both goals.
Corky Posted 27 December 2009 Posted 27 December 2009 Arsenal currently 2-0 up at home to Villa. Fabregas with both goals. Finished 3-0. All three Arsenal goals were superbly taken.
sdb Posted 27 December 2009 Posted 27 December 2009 http://www.fromsport.com/c-1.html Thanks, didn't get to it in the end but maybe best - was hoping for a Villa win. Liverpool game in few days will be tasty.
Fox92 Posted 27 December 2009 Posted 27 December 2009 1-3 Man United now. Rooney's fault for Hull's goal but has just set up two of the recent Manchester United goals.
purpleronnie Posted 27 December 2009 Posted 27 December 2009 Thanks hull, thanks a lot, that goal cost be about £40.
Ultra Posted 28 December 2009 Posted 28 December 2009 1-3 Man United now.Rooney's fault for Hull's goal but has just set up two of the recent Manchester United goals. Rooney also scored the first, which put him joint top of the league scorers chart with Drogba and Defoe. He's probably been the player of the season so far.
