Boro post match

Just seen the goal it actually went in off a deflection! We never score like that. He seemed to have acres of space from a layoff by Howard.

Great win

and to top it off I got the prediction right for the prediction league!

Over the moon with the result. Didn't expect us to get a point, so this an uber-bonus! lol

I don't care how we win, as long as we do. Didn't hear the game as I was down the opsical, but a few people told me Chris Weale was awesome.

I'm glad Pearson made some ruthless changes and it seems to have paid off. :)

Not gonna say anything else, because I'm not in the position to.

I reckon Milan should give Nigel a bit more money just incase Middlesbrough come sniffing, if Nigel does go the club will change as most of the players in the team Nigel bought. Mind you I can see Steve Mclaren return to the Riverside.

The only bloke I can see taking the club from Nigel would have to Mickey Adams.

What are you on?

And Keane, they're bottom now! Maybe even Nigel Clough at Derby, could spark a big managerial merry-go-round.

Clough will be given at least two seasons by all accounts. One of the owners was on the radio the other day saying that they want him to build the club up gradually, lay the foundations and make sure there's no repeat of the embarassing season they had if they ever go back up.

Anybody getting sacked in the Championship before November is crazy. If we restarted the league again tomorrow, half the results would go the other way and the table could be upside down.

I just can't see Pearson going to any other club in the division apart from Newcastle or West Brom who are a mile ahead of the rest in terms of finance & quality players.

Someone on my FB just said city bring a whole new meaning to "Riverside Mother****er" I like that.

Yeah that was kinda done by me and Cman last night but fairplay..

Excellent win, wouldve taken the draw but an extreme smash and grab. It however does not detor from the fact I will never return to that ground, appauling atmosphere pointless stewarding and a total shithole without Lloyds goal it would have been one of the worst games ever.

Curretly nailing the customary 20 nuggets now back to sheff for a big celebration featuring Nigel Pearson, Big Steve and spearmint rhinos!!

its amazing how tactically clueless, disorganised and bad our players are yet we go to middlesborough and win 1-0... yeah Pearson is a terrible manager...

We should have beat Watford comfortably and didnt. We didnt really seserve all 3 pts tonight but somehow got them. Can someone explain this sport to me again?

Sometimes it is about effort, commitment and shear bloody mindedness.

We had plenty of all three tonight!

:D :D

The Times tomorrow

Hailing from a small town with large pockets of economic deprivation, Middlesbrough are often judged harshly on the size of their crowds, but last night the judgment of the refuseniks could not be questioned. The smallest attendance for a league match in the 14-year history of the Riverside Stadium bore testament to a desperate excuse for a match that concluded with another miserable defeat.

While the tempo picked up in the final quarter of the game, few Middlesbrough supporters will find much solace in that. After a promising start to the season, they have endured three games without victory and a minority joined in with the chants of “You’re getting sacked in the morning,” which Leicester City fans aimed at Gareth Southgate. The manager was later jeered when he threw the ball on to the pitch.

Leicester had been equally awful, but Lloyd Dyer did what no Middlesbrough player was equal to and grasped a rare chance. Most of the 18,577 who attended the fixture would be forgiven for questioning their sanity, but this remains a proud club operating in a difficult financial climate. The jeers that coincided with the final whistle were sad as well as understandable.

Contrary to their previous home appearance, at least Middlesbrough had the good grace to turn up. Their startling 5-0 defeat by West Bromwich Albion had initiated a bout of navel-gazing that their subsequent draw away to Coventry City — having led 2-0 — had not dispelled.

The presence of Nigel Pearson, Middlesbrough’s captain in three domestic cup finals in the 1990s, served as a reminder of more glittering moments that, for much of a flat and disjointed first half, felt very distant. Until a shot from Dyer, who capitalised on an error by David Wheater, was deflected for a corner off Sean St Ledger in the twentieth minute, notable activity had been non-existent.

That opportunity initiated a flurry of pressure, with Jérémie Aliadière shooting smartly into Chris Weale’s body, but it was fleeting in nature and there was little that could be interpreted as a pattern. The ball was abused rather than caressed, possession was conceded too cheaply and while there was nothing lacking in the way of enthusiasm, it was rarely expressed with consideration.

The exception, as it often is, was Adam Johnson, who briefly roused interest with a pulsating run from the right. Leicester could only hinder him through nefarious means, with Bruno Berner hanging out a leg for Johnson to stumble over, although Julio Arca did not provide the quality of free kick to mirror the winger’s play.

Depending on your viewpoint, Leicester had either been solid and committed or equally moribund. As the away side and fully aware of the value of a point, they could not be held responsible for the dearth of impetus.

In the 53rd minute, Marvin Emnes found himself in a decent position in front of goal, but, as has routinely characterised the striker’s spell at the club, he spurned the chance. If surprise was muted when Emnes was replaced shortly afterwards, the sight of both managers making a simultaneous double substitution counted as the game’s greatest cause of excitement.

Southgate’s changes brought an immediate effect. Aliadière was felled in full flight by Matt Oakley, leading to a disappointing free kick from Mark Yeates, who did better when he crossed precisely from the left; on this occasion, Leroy Lita headed wide. After 77 minutes, Ledger headed powerfully from close range, but Weale mustered a fine save.

Ten minutes later, Weale did the same, clawing away a Yeates header, but by now Middlesbrough were behind, guilty of neglecting their defensive duties. Shortly after Jack Hobbs had struck the right post, Dyer collected a pass from Oakley and scored via a deflection off Tony McMahon.

Middlesbrough (4-4-2): B Jones — A McMahon, D Wheater, S St Ledger, J Bennett (sub: D Digard, 86min) — G O’Neil, R Williams, J Arca (sub: M Yeates, 62), A Johnson — J Aliadière, M Emnes (sub: L Lita, 62). Substitutes not used: D Coyne, J Grounds, S Hines, J Franks.

Leicester City (4-4-2): C Weale — M Morrison, J Hobbs, W Brown, B Berner — P Gallagher (sub: N Adams, 71), M Oakley, A King, L Dyer — Y Kermorgant (sub: S Howard, 61), M Fryatt (sub: M Waghorn, 61). Substitutes not used: C Logan, R Neilson, R McGivern, D N’Guessan. Booked: Oakley.

Referee: M Haywood.

Right here.

No chance of getting to the game tonight, so realistically I can not comment on individual performances.

From what I heard, we did not create very much and were pretty lucky to get any points, let alone all three, so I do not have any great reason to change my views. They were not formed after one awful display so neither will they be changed after one great result!

What I will say is that we appeared to play with a conviction and determination that has, at times this season, been entirely absent so I am really pleased with the performance!

A lot of my posts have been about our collective failure as a team but the confidence and conviction displayed tonight was of a very high order, and we played well enough to control large parts of the game, even if we did score against the run of play.

Credit to everyone responsible for that!..... :appl: :appl:
