Nigel's team changes which needed to freshen the side up were good, and although the match sounded shocking, glad we have the points in the bag. marbelladave Posted 30 September 2009 Posted 30 September 2009 On reflection this morning. Positives. At last a game plan where everyone knew what they were doing. A couple of players not in their best positions but at least they were given jobs to do that they were actually capable of doing. Fullbacks seemed pretty good and King and Oakley were heroic in keeping control of midfield for large parts of the first hour. Dyer, one of our few goal threats from midfield scored, hopefully that will give him a confidence boost. We kept the pressure on, so that they and their fans were very quiet first half, very important this. Weale is developing into a very good shop stopper. Negatives. Still created very little up front irrespective of who was playing there. Our center midfield was stretched to breaking point in the last half hour, we really need another man in there. Under pressure the center of our defence still looks jittery and there was far too much hoofball in the second half. What ifs. Dyer's shot had been blocked, which it really should have been. Boro had someone who could actually hit a freekick from 20 yards. But they didn't so........

I wouldn't worry too much what they say about us. They're just the Sun with a smaller typeface. Overall, the media may be right that it wasn't a pretty game. I think we all know we're not Man U or Arsenal. We are a mid-table Championship side trying to make the transition between being a bad Championship side (which we've been for several seasons) to promotion contenders. You know this, Daggers. But what the media don't see - or don't care about - is the context of the game to those who made the journey. Of course a City fan who's travelled half the night will remember a better gamethan a journalist who is only there because it's his or her job. I'd rather identify with the fans, and see a battling performance, than with the professionally cynical. Finally, "moribund" seems particularly harsh for a club that just won promotion.

Less harsh and more completely inaccurate. Can one be moribund for a single game? This makes no sense. Moribund requires a extended period of no progressm whcih as you say is rubbish given we just came up from L1.
Criggers Posted 30 September 2009 Posted 30 September 2009 Rather pleased with this result! I was ill last night and asleep, what a fantastic result to wake up to in the morning. A few wins on the spin now please. I don't think Southgate will get sacked until they're out of the play off's. As said before, Gibson has stuck by him through worse. They will probably swap places with Newcastle over the next few months things are that tight.

Comments on here appear at total odds with them. i guess the difference is, last night was apparently a very tight defensive encounter which, given our youth in this league against a pedigree team that are clearly nervous for their own reasons, is not surprising and we came away with the spoils... contrast that to preston where it seemed we created endless chances in what was, by most accounts, a very open game, yet we struggled to even hit the target. there are many different types of games, this one clearly wasn't about end to end action... your complaint sounds very much from the thracian school of brazilian expectation and goals by the bucket load, and since when have you bothered with what the media report... going soft, eh, dave?

lou Posted 30 September 2009 Posted 30 September 2009 Just woken up after an epic drive last night, dosed up on Red Bull to get me home I very nearly pulled out of going to this game, didnt feel well and was genuinely worried about driving home tired but am soooo glad I went. Got there about 6 parked up and found a lovely friendly pub (Lord Bryon) that did huge chip buttys with cheese for £1.50! Had brill seats right at the back on the left hand corner so managed to stand all game (about 30 of us) and the singing was great! Despite the best efforts of the stewards to make everyone sit down we just ignored them and they gave up Wasnt a pretty game but it wasnt as bad as some of the press seem to be making out. I thought we totally mugged them and still cant believe we won that but a wins a win and I dont give a toss how we got it Walking back to the car chatted to a few Boro fans who Hate the Chairman, Manager, players and fellow fans by the sound of it! Remeniscent of our fans 2 seasons ago Took ages to get out of the car park etc and bumped into one of the Boro players at a petrol station just out of Middlesbrough in a brand new Audi R8 v10 and he took it in good humour when I laughed in his face Not too sure who he was but looked like Chris Riggott All in all a great trip and a lot of laughs and for once an away win woooo! Would have been an incredibly long drive home after a defeat Edit - total overload on smilies.... must be the Red Bull

We got up to 'Boro about half 5ish, the journey was perfect from Lincoln, the stewards on the other hand weren't. Talk about little Hitlers, particularly the one who looked like Ian Huntley I'm still picturing the goal now, brilliant to score a goal like that when they had little time to get back into the game and even better to score right in front of us. What a cracking night, felt almost emotional when the the final whistle went, it was so important that we hung on to the lead and won. Was sad for Gareth when he got booed though, Radio Tees was full of angry 'boro fans. The thing is if Gareth gets the sack then they are going to come sniffing around Nige, not a big fan of that.

It was quite funny. A couple of stewards were almost apologetic in asking us to find some seats to "at least attach ourselves to". But when the skinny bloke trotted off down stairs and dragged in the stewarding supervisor he didn't seem to be getting much encouragement from the remaining stewards at all. Even the supervisor seemed distinctly unconcerned when he arrived on the scene and the status quo continued unchanged. Those back four rows were heroes and must have made more noise betwen them hat the rest of the ground put tother except for the 20 minute spell of Boro attacking second half when we finally heard evidence that the Boro fans were awake.

Common sense really does need to prevail at times

I went and stood on the very back row,everyone seemed to follow afterwards. Celebrations were abit special And a note for the Boro stewards , I dont think I've seen a worse bunch sinces Huddersfield away last season. Hitlers!
