Head Honcho Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 I'd have less junk mail but other then that it wouldn't affect me. These fvckers have been working under guidelines laid down since the 70's and need to adapt. A round that used to take 4 hours should only take them an hour or two these days yet they still want to take 4 hours to do it-unbelieveable
Zingari Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 probably not much , but my dog would miss humping her leg at every opportunity

Bert Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 I know a bloke who works on the post. Said he wasn't gonna vote because his vote wouldn't get there on time. The strike's annoying yes, but there's not a lot we can do. I'd support the strike if it was for fireman who put there lives in danger, but not for postman who can only really get their fingers caught in a letterbox.
Head Honcho Posted 8 October 2009 Author Posted 8 October 2009 I don't really know the background to this but why would a round that used to take 4 hrs now only take 1 or 2? I think it's to do with how quickly they get to start their round and bag drop offs and the like. I can remember the days when posties used to walk or take public transport to the start of their round.
Sir Fynwy Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 They need to join the real world, complaining about pay freezes, changing conditions and the government not bailing out their pensions is seriously stupid when it's the norm in many companies today. Also the service is terrible, competition from TNT, DHL etc would show them.

I know several posties and there really is only one who supports the strike, but then again he's the only lazy bastard amongst them!

Webbo Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 It's easy for people on good salaries to say that people who earn less than them that they ought to work harder for less. It might be the case that the Mail needs to modernise and that changes have to made but I don't blame the posties for wanted to hang onto what they've got.
Shrenchel Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 From what I've read, I support them more or less depending how they play it. I doubt they'll get much public backing. The bin men where I live have been on strike for 5 or 6 weeks because the council want to cut their wages by a few grand. Seems a pretty reasonable reason to me but eryone in the area seems to think they're a bunch of lazy, workshy cvnts. Some of the stuff you hear said about them is pretty disgusting.

Yep they should shut up and accept everything. BAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Anyway I used to be a postman and I agree the 4 hour deliveries dont take anywhere near that I'm still in contact with a few of my former workmates, one does it in 2h 30 mins. There is however a bit more too these strikes, but I always thought it was a pretty good job but that was because you could come in go as fast as you want if you finished early you could go home, but that might change now so the advantages are slipping away so I understand why some posties dont like that plus the pay is pretty shitty unless you do overtime.
lou Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 My m8 is a postie.... he readily admits its a cushy job and is usually finished in 3-4 hours but gets paid for a full day. There are people in far worse jobs that are far more hard done to!

I think this is one of the major issues. A round that takes an hour to do is done on a 6 hour overtime shift-this can't be right!
Bluefoxtim Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 I'm following the news story on the state of Royal Mail (privatisation arguments / strikes etc) as one of my Uni assignments. I'll need to analyse the political geographies that the issue affects and creates. Whilst I'm here - I'm writing a 'journalistic' report on an aspect of urban life in Leicester. Anybody have a suggestion for a topic I could look at? Thought about buses, those bollard-children outside Avenue Road Primary school, opening of the Curve / struggles of The Charlotte..... The more creative the better really. This needs to be submitted by October 20th. We haven't been given long at all...

Well thats not how it works where I was, No round could be done in less than 2 hours and some even if you walked very fast took 3hours+. But I did here that leicester was much easier. But I never did a round in Leicester so dont know.

Agreed, there's a world outthere agreeing to take paycuts for there jobs, losing there pensions etc, why should our tax give them something that is beyond there role!!
Benji Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 If mine ever once got here before 2pm I might consider supporting it!
hairy Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 The example given was a village in Northants. In Great Glen, a village in Leicestershire. They start before 6am and seem to finish around 2pm. Thats 8 hours. I live near to the post office so I see the comings and goings. Does the post office strike include Parcel Force? It means I will get less post at work but probably more emails <_< Amazon are using CityLink so it shouldn't have too much bearing on my life.
Monk Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 I know we all feel nostaglic about the whole thing but it's nigh time for privatisation - keep the infrastructure as we have done with the national grid. All the big couriers will be looking to take advantage of this, which will eventually lower Royal Mail's revenue.

Yeah look at how well that's worked out. I bloody love paying 3 times more for my gas and electricity than other western european countries.
Sly Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 Sack the lot and replace them with people who are unemployed and actually want to work!!!!
BoneDog Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 Not sure what the strike is about. I used to be a postie and I could never understand all the moaning that I heard. This was about 7 years ago so maybe it's got worse, but I loved it at the time. Was quite hard getting up at 4am but I used to finish at about 11 if I didn't do someone else's round after mine. I used to hear some guys moan about the system but I never really understood what the problem was cos the pay was alright and I'd had some far worse jobs before. There are also some benefits of being a postie. Some nice milf's used to wait for me with their front door open and come and chat wearing their flimsy nightwear. I could of probably done a 'Tears For Fears' 5 or 6 times every morning if I weren't such a slow mover
