Thracian Posted 13 October 2009 Posted 13 October 2009 Petty and unnecessary. More influence from representatives of the nanny state. It's Stalinist in a way in that you'll soon need permission to breathe in this country that some still ridiculously refer to as the land of the free.
lou Posted 13 October 2009 Posted 13 October 2009 What reason did they give for banning it? "You could have someones eye out with that" ?
flagman Posted 13 October 2009 Posted 13 October 2009 Hi guys, I am the Derby fan that carrys the flag to all home and away games. As i am sure you are aware the flag came to your ground back in the 07 season. As always i call the relevant club beforehand to check and since its only been Forest that have rejected it i am very dissapointed in LCFC decision to reject the flag. The reasons i have been given are below:- The away end will be full (it was back in 2007!) The flag is to big (it hasnt grown since 2007!) The reasons that Forest gave were that it could incite trouble or violence, something that your club has not mentioned! Like previous posters have been saying this is ruining football, i am a keen follower of Brazilian football and the flags and banners look great, adds to the atmosphere and makes a game more enjoyable from my point of view. This is killing football! Anyway, the reason i have posted is to let you know my side of the story and am also good friends with the original poster, due to this decision we have come to blows!!!! :-) Good luck for the game on Saturday regards Nick Derby Fan
samjohnson Posted 13 October 2009 Posted 13 October 2009 What reason did they give for banning it? "You could have someones eye out with that" ? MK Dons require a fire certificate for any flags over a certain size...
Guest Posted 13 October 2009 Posted 13 October 2009 To be fair, if the away end is full, and if the home ends are full, there isn't really anywhere it can be easily displayed. Not without upsetting sponsors and/or fellow fans.
flagman Posted 13 October 2009 Posted 13 October 2009 The flag has a fire cerificate! We always surf the flag over our fans head 10 minutes before kick off and then collect in before kick off and put the flag away if the away end is full. When not full we place over seats!

Not without upsetting sponsors and/or fellow fans. I'm sure I remember when we played Derby, they levitated it over their fans rather than placing it. Stupid decision.

iancognito Posted 13 October 2009 Posted 13 October 2009 @ Nick What's on the flag that it might incite trouble at Forest? It is wrong though. The grey, featureless bowls that pass as grounds these days need something to brighten them up, even if it does have a stick drawing of a Ram on it.

Its just got Derby County at the top, the stick ram as you put it! :-) and then Super Rams at the bottom, all in black and white! Nothing that could have offended Forest fans to incite trouble, it was a flag for christ sake!
Guest Posted 13 October 2009 Posted 13 October 2009 To be fair, anything that creates an atmosphere is offensive at our place

It's ironic they banned your flag for fear of inciting trouble yet Tyson nearly started world war 3 prancing around with one in the air.
Ozwin Posted 13 October 2009 Posted 13 October 2009 *Insert 'you deserve it' type post here* I kid I kid.
Sly Posted 13 October 2009 Posted 13 October 2009 End of last season. Drat your right!! ....... How about before that?
Guest Posted 13 October 2009 Posted 13 October 2009 Drat your right!! ....... How about before that? Leeds last season? End of the season before against Sheff Weds?
Fosse Boy Posted 13 October 2009 Posted 13 October 2009 Utterly moronic decision. It's a local derby, the club should be trying to add to the atmosphere, not detract from it! The people who run these affairs in our club are complete cretins. MK Dons require a fire certificate for any flags over a certain size... Wouldn't expect anything else from the most plastic club in the world to be honest...
Guest Bilo Posted 13 October 2009 Posted 13 October 2009 Stupid decision, especially given that Huddersfield brought a pretty huge flag with them and sold out their allocation only last season. As has already been said, petty and childish.

The people who run these affairs in our club are complete cretins. Perhaps thats why Peter Jones has left? To be honest its pathetic, anything to create an atomsphere is a bonus. (I cant believe we are here with sympathy for a Derby fan!)
