Bellend Sebastian Posted 16 October 2009 Posted 16 October 2009 Going on the musical theme and looking at the so called '27 club'. Most notably Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison of the Doors. Other musicians that I feel died before their time are Jeff Buckley who died at 30, Bob Marley was 36, Stevie Ray Vaughan was also 36 and also Buddy Holly who I think was 23 when he was killed in a plane crash! With actors I think Heath Ledger deserves a mention as well!! You get instant legend status if you're a popular musician that dies early (this may not apply to Mr Gately, admittedly). I'm only thinking aloud here, but would we feel the same about these artists if they were still alive and had produced a load of shit since? Lennon is probably thankful that he carked it before putting out his Frog Chorus or Give My Regards to Broad Street. Jim Morrison was in a right state by the time he died, and if we'd had 35 years of a fat, washed up Jim churning out his bad poetry would he still be revered as he is now? I'm a big fan of Nick Drake, but nobody gave a toss about him while he was alive, and Jeff Buckley's dying will no doubt have been looked on as a masterstroke by his record company as well. It's not surprising really, is it? By dying young everyone remembers you in your prime, rather than seeing you get a bit old and shit
Thracian Posted 16 October 2009 Posted 16 October 2009 Duncan Edwards and Tommy Taylor - killed in the Munich Air Disaster. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munich_air_disaster John Denver ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Denver) and Buddy Holly ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddy_Holly) also spring to mind.
dandannieldanok Posted 16 October 2009 Posted 16 October 2009 Paul Hunter. Died far too soon. He's the one that springs to mind straight away for me. Great talent and a great bloke.
Budweiser Posted 16 October 2009 Posted 16 October 2009 Tupac Amaru Shaku and Christopher Wallace. No and yes.
Finnegan Posted 16 October 2009 Posted 16 October 2009 I expected Libs to say Jeff Buckley. So I will say Jeff Buckley.
Head Honcho Posted 16 October 2009 Posted 16 October 2009 John McGeoch Martin Hannett Fad Gadget Stuart Adamson Billy Mackenzie Ian Dury Tim Hardin Their best was behind them but still gone before their time.
Daggers Posted 16 October 2009 Posted 16 October 2009 I have a good list of people I wish would go before their time, can't wait for that thread.
Libertine Posted 16 October 2009 Posted 16 October 2009 I expected Libs to say Jeff Buckley. So I will say Jeff Buckley. Who?
Pst Posted 16 October 2009 Posted 16 October 2009 First one is Joe Strummer. I was devastated when he died, it was like part of my youth had died with him! I cried like a baby and wish he was still with us. Just so many memories of when I was young they were and still are a band I listen to a great deal. I was lucky enough to meet him on more than one occasion and he was a lovely, lovely guy. I know hes not the greatest talent thats ever walked the earth and some people might wonder why Ive picked him but like I said its very much a personal thing. This... I am only young but the bloke was brilliant, I've been influenced by the older members in my family!
fox123 Posted 16 October 2009 Posted 16 October 2009 Not sure when you can say a specific time on when people are to go. I'm a believer in 'thing's happen for a reason', and would go so far to say that many people gain far more inspiration from people that have passed on, than those that are still alive.
acooling08 Posted 16 October 2009 Posted 16 October 2009 Why has everyone said a celeb and not a friend or family member?
jonthefox Posted 16 October 2009 Posted 16 October 2009 winston churchill. he would single handedly sort this country out.
vanfox12 Posted 16 October 2009 Posted 16 October 2009 winston churchill. he would single handedly sort this country out. If you mean the war in Afghanistan then you're probably right but as far as i am aware he wasn't such an expert on other things i'e the Economy but then you would hope he'd employ people who knew what they were doing and not likely to stab him in the back like the current shower of MP'S. I'd bring back comic greats Morecombe and Wise - would they be as successful today as they were in their heyday? Plus Richard Beckinsale and Leonard Rossiter.
Smudge Posted 16 October 2009 Posted 16 October 2009 I thought Paul McCartney sang 'Yesterday'? He probably did; and the day before.
BoneDog Posted 16 October 2009 Posted 16 October 2009 winston churchill. he would single handedly sort this country out. I think things would of probably been worse if he was Prime Minister now. I remember the thing he said about seeing nothing wrong with gassing what he called 'uncivilized tribes'. By 'uncivilized', what he meant of course were poor people in so called '3rd World' countries who are only poor because they had all their natural resources and riches stolen by conquering empires. And still do in some cases.
BoneDog Posted 16 October 2009 Posted 16 October 2009 He probably did; and the day before. I meant to quote an earlier post where someone said that Lennon sang 'Yesterday'. I was sure it was Macca!

I'm surprised you haven't asked for a few Prophets to come back to prove your YouTube theories mate. How about Jesus,Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and Moses for a Foxestalk cook off?
