suffolk fox Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 Bertrand: We're bigger and better than Leicester City By Jonny Fordham October 23, 2009 Ryan Bertrand has lit the touchpaper ahead of Monday night’s clash against Leicester City by insisting Reading are a bigger club and better club. Although Royals have not won a Championship game in nine months at Madejski Stadium, the 19-year-old left back insists that they should still be regarded as favourites to turn over eighth-placed Leicester (live on Sky Sports 1, 8pm kick-off). He said: “Leicester is a big club if you go back through the history books. “But at this moment in time the league positions are irrelevant. Reading is a better football club than Leicester. “They say the table never lies, and I guess it doesn’t, but that just shows they’re on a better run than us at the moment. “The fact is we’re a better football club than Leicester and we should go out there as favourites.” Nigel Pearson’s side travel to Berkshire on the back of a 2-0 home win over Crystal Palace, whereas Royals have lost their last three games. And Bertrand, who is expected to return to Royals’ starting line-up after missing Tuesday’s 4-1 defeat at QPR with concussion, conceded: “Leicester will be full of confidence. They’ve just come into the league and are doing well and we can’t underestimate them. “But I think it’s a game that we will go out and win.” Bertrand, who is on loan from Chelsea, is desperate to get a victory that would lift Royals away from the relegation zone and ease the pressure on under-fire manager Brendan Rodgers. He said: “It’s important that we defend well, but the emphasis will be on attacking Leicester and getting the three points. “If we can eradicate the mistakes and the whole team chips in with a goal here and there, then we should be fine and hopefully the crowd will get behind us as well.” Until three days ago Bertrand was the only Reading outfield player to have played in every league game this season. He added: “I was gutted about (getting concussed at West Brom on Saturday), but the main thing is that I’m back now. “Hopefully if I continue what I’ve been doing in training then I should get back into the team, I’m feeling much better now.” I HOPE THE WORDS ARE RAMMED DOWN HIS THROAT BY THE CITY BOYS COME ON!!! 2-0 WIN!
Joe. Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 Dear me, what an embarassing thing to say. It has to be a brilliant time to play Reading at the moment...
Hitesh Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 “But at this moment in time the league positions are irrelevant. Reading is a better football club than Leicester. “They say the table never lies, and I guess it doesn’t, but that just shows they’re on a better run than us at the moment." What is this guy on?! Hopefully the players read this before going out on Monday and absolutely get them up for it!
StanSP Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 What a tit. Table doesn't lie but we're a better club than Leicester. Yeah good one Ryan.
Ozwin Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 Just deflecting from their poor form at home. What a bell.
suffolk fox Posted 23 October 2009 Author Posted 23 October 2009 THIS WHAT MAKES ME LAUGTH THIS TAKEN FROM THEIR OWN FANS SITE:- A QUOTE FROM ONE OF THEIR FANS RE THEIR ATTENDANCES:- Average home support for the 3 league games upto the Doncaster game is 15,405. The Cardiff away support was not included in Saturdays programme so cannot include that game. For the same three games last season, Notts Forrest, Sheffield United & Doncaster Rovers the average home supporters attendance was17,727 Last seasons home support averaged out at 18,184 over the 23 home league games. Total attendance (home and away support combined) averaged out at 19,995. Our lowest total attendance of last season, Blackpool 16,514, has already been 'beaten' twice this season with the Sheffield Utd (16,025) and Doncaster (15,697) gates. So far we have 'lost' about 2,300 home supporters per game. So approximately the same number as the drop in ST holders. Hardly a surprise then. BIGGER BETTER CLUB NAH I DON'T THINK SO WHO ARE YA!!!!!
davieG Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 From Vital Reading;

When will footballers learn to keep quiet?! Going into Monday nights game against Leicester sitting just outside the relegation zone should surely mean you wouldn't start telling the media that you are a much better team than your forthcoming opponents! Not Ryan Bertrand though, he has given Leicester all the motivation they need to come to the Madejski Stadium and win on Monday night, and pretty much done Nigel Pearson's team talk for him! The on loan Chelsea left back told the Reading Post that Reading are a much bigger club than Leicester. "They say the table never lies, and I guess it doesn`t, but that just shows they`re on a better run than us at the moment. The fact is we`re a better football club than Leicester and we should go out there as favourites.' The good news for any Leicester player looking to 'put one on him' on Monday night is that he is certain to return to the starting line up after recovering from concussion that saw him miss the QPR defeat! Hopefully we will finally see all this positive talking before matches transferred onto the pitch, it would be about time.
Simi Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 Reading are so small-time that this article is probably the most irrelevant thing since that goober from Scunny said something.
Guest Bilo Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 Moronic words. Can't imagine his manager thanking him for this outburst. We are a bigger club than Reading in every way, but to go into them would show a lack of class.
Super Arj Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 Are pro footballers educated? this boy needs a slap, and nothing says "FCUK YOU" like a Robbie Neilson wonder goal.
Guest Bilo Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 He added: “I was gutted about (getting concussed at West Brom on Saturday), but the main thing is that I’m back now.“Hopefully if I continue what I’ve been doing in training then I should get back into the team, I’m feeling much better now.” Not sure you've recovered yet treacle.

leicesterseddon Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 'They say the table never lies, and I guess it doesn't' 'But at this moment in time the league positions are irrelevant' There we have it folks. A footballer managing to perpetuate a stereotype of his own profession in a truly effortless manner. Quite stunning really.
The Blur Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 Dear God Betrand to score a own goal and to make a mistake to gift Howard a goal Ahem
Bluefoxtim Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 This is the man folks. http://www.facebook.com/search/?q=ryan+bet...&init=quick
Shrenchel Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 The idea that anything could 'light the touchpaper' of Leicester vs Reading at the Madejski stadium is completely laughable. It'll be about as tasty as a Rustlers.
C-man Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 Don't see Edgar Davids wanting to sign for Reading...
Hitesh Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 I've just been out in Reading town centre for lunch and this story is all over the back pages of the local papers!
Muz Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 What a renter. Reading are one of the most pointless clubs about. I class them and there fans very close to MK. ******.
Fosse Boy Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 Why say with words what you can say with emoticons... :crylaugh:
Orkneyfox Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 "If we can eradicate the mistakes and the whole team chips in with a goal here and there," My dear boy it's not that common for a lower half championship team to score 11 "I was gutted about getting concussed" No you were not disembowelled, you got a nasty knock on the head which is still giving you trouble.
dandannieldanok Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/football..._leicester_city Bit ironic that the picture they use is one of endless empty seats.
